    On today's show Thom mentioned a book about Republican history that talked of how Republicans found the middle class in America to be prospering (mid-1900's) and found the middle class becoming a problem. Did anyone catch the name of that book? Thanks C.O.

    AIDS Controversial requirements

    Some critics of PEPFAR feel that American political and social groups with moral rather than public health agendas are behind several requirements of PEPFAR, pointing to the mandates that one-third of prevention spending in 2006–2008 be directed towards abstinence-until-marriage programs and that all funded organizations sign ananti-prostitution pledge.

    Do not call

    Sponsored by Representatives Billy Tauzin (R) and John Dingell (D) and signed into law by President George W. Bush on March 11, 2003

    From Wikipedia:

    On June 27, 2003, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) opened the National Do Not Call Registry in order to comply with the Do-Not-Call Implementation Act of 2003 (Public Law No. 108-10, was H.R. 395 of the 108th Congress), sponsored by Representatives Billy Tauzin and John Dingell and signed into law by President George W. Bush on March 11, 2003.

    Note that Tauzin was a Dem from 1972 to 1995 and switched to the Rethuglicans in 1995.

    Oops! My bad! They do have a plan. Same one as BP! I should have said "Legitimate Plan"

  • Daily Topics - Monday June 28th, 2010   14 years 47 weeks ago

    $4300/barrel fine X 100,000 barrels a day =$430,000,000 a day in fines

    60 days X $430,000,000 per day = $25,800,000,000 as of last week

    BP is already "Slow Walking" us on the damages fines etc by only putting up $20 Billion, They are $5 billion short on the fine amount alone.

    Plus $12.5 billion dollars a month until they figure out how to stop it without making it worse and the current schedule projects end of August, so lets say another $25 Billion for a total of $50 Billion in fines alone, provided negligence can be proven, slam dunk according to most. Bp's only option would be to say, bribe a judge. What judge could possibly have the audacity to let these crooks off the hook? The same one that allowed them to continue drilling with out a plan for disasters like the one we now have!

  • This So-Called "Banking Reform" Bill   14 years 47 weeks ago

    It is a process ---

    This bill is a step in the right direction. Many more are needed but this modest effort will have an impact on earning and leverage trading which drives most of the profits of these institutions.

    Nobody is going to sail through this new economic cycle without pain -- on deck next are the poor millionaires who think they have dodge the bullet and are diving in with so called "inside information" to by cheap.

    Smile - In a deflationary economy nobody really knows what cheap is as prices continues to slide each week, month, and year. - - Keep your eye on the velocity of money in circulation.

    In order to really comply with the spirit of the second ammendment we need to form well regulated Militias. We have ignored this for decades we have wound up with militias as we see them today. What I think was intended would be more like our States National Guard units, which are now being used as they were never intended.

    If we had been more diligent we would have promoted participation in local NG units by all of our citizens. We would be properly trained in the use of firearms of all types including automatic weapons, artillery, and whatever else is available to defend our communities in worst case situations. All of the "Good Stuff" would be stored at the community Armory and personal weapons would be kept by the people for their personal protection.

    The National guard militias would be organized to respond to all situations unique to their respective States, people helping and protecting their families and neighbors. And in a threat to our nation they would be combined with other State militias to defend the Country.

    We seem to have forgot the part of the Constitution that says basically that there will be no standing armies maintained by the Federal government.

    To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

    To provide and maintain a Navy;

    To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

    To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

    To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

    To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;--

    Navy, yes, Army, Marines, Air Force, NO The militias were to be all of these except the navy

    One of the more notable push polls asked if the voter was aware that John McCain had a black daughter. Karl Rove knows his business.

    The reason Rove said that he could make Dubya president had more to do with Karl's ego and his rise to the challenge of getting a moron into the White House.

    Whitman, a candidate so heinous that it required her spending almost $64 per vote of her own money to get people of her own party to vote for her and forget that she has spent the last decade of her life taking money from middle-class folk attempting to stay afloat by selling off pieces of their lives . . . Warns us to fear the freedom of the sixties.

    On SCOTUS's overturning of Chicago's ~26 year gun ban...

    Just talked this over with a friend. Our consensus... mandatory subscription.

    Have the governor of IL call a meeting of all gun owners (aka militia) this weekend. Put them through drills or have them do public works projects... away from people so they do no harm. Repeat these meetings until SCOTUS yells uncle.
