    Gerald,

As an acolyte/adherent of a faith based religion, your inquiry regarding Christopher Hitchens makes sense to you. The rest of us may have truly divergent understandings of the universe and how it works. Being angry about his understanding of the universe, does not make yours more palatable. Disrespect is not sexy . . .

    Along the same lines

the BP people initially withheld the high definition feed of the blowout, even from the government. They pay a per-barrel fine and wanted to make it as difficult as possible for scientists to get an accuate estimate.

Every day I learn of some new filthy trick they have pulled. The company deserves bankruptcy and the officers jail time.

Why don't you piss off? I never stated my opinion on gun ownership. I just gave a different reading of it and pointed out the fact that this is a losing issue for democrats. Neither gun ownership nor laws against it will tip the balance of power in this country. It is a red herring issue and thom's coverage of it is nothing but a distraction from real issues. And that tags him as a phony progressive ie; false opposition designed to co-opt the progressive movement and channel that energy into something less threatening to the multi-nationals. Of course it doesn't help that he simul-casts with a jackass like alex jones either.

  • To Restore Democracy: First Abolish Corporate Personhood   14 years 47 weeks ago

    Greetings

I've a question to pose. If Corporations are persons and have all the rights of individual persons should not individual's have all the rights as corporations?

An example being corporations can deduct the 'cost of doing business' from their gross profits, why can't I deduct my overhead that supports my ability to 'do business'?

Has there ever been a case argued from this point of view? If not, I think the time is now.

    Thank you for your work,

    Elizabeth Wearley

And that isn't even the end of the fun. Think "Corexit rain".

This stuff doesn't stay in the ocean. It evaporates along with the water, and then becomes... rain. Nobody's clear how far that will travel.

Here is a pet peeve of mine. Let me first say that I believe women are God's greatest creation. With that said I will state that the Portland Police will reopen a woman's claim that Al Gore groped her in 2006. Women wear provocative and scant clothing to entice men to look at them and than they have the audacity to claim when men do look at them and some of them grope the women, these men violated their space. If I was a judge, I would throw these women into prisons for entrapment of men.

Christopher Hitchens, a proclaimed atheist, is diagnosed with cancer. Will he remain an atheist as he lays dying on his death-bed?

What EPA says about the dispersant EGBE - Ethlyene Glycol Butyl Ether there is a skin exposure limit of 25 ppm or 0.000025 weight fraction or 0.0025%. EGBE evaporates well and absorption is higher through the lungs so needs a lower airborne PEL => respirators a really really good idea. EGBE kills rodents by bursting their red blood cells. Humans appear to escape that fate but still get poisoned at a few hundred pppm airborne.

Who knows what it does to fish, birds, turtles, crustaceans or cetaceans....

We don't need no reform schools (or anything else). Calvin told us that god has our destiny fixed at birth.

Other solution: declare all defendants tried as adults. If you're brown, it's quite likely.

Nat Hentoff studied the Second Amendment during the 1992 Presidential primary because He wasn't too sure that Pat Buchanan was wrong in saying the amendment conferred an individual right to arms. His conclusion was that Buchanan was correct.

I think the first "gun control" law was passed in 1799 to restrict the size of a gun on a private boat to four inch projectiles.

My friend, a police officer, tells me that the first weapon of choice for a home invasion is a baseball bat. Escalate as needed.

I think it would do very well to stop arguing about guns and start arguing about the causes of violence and the ways to approach and solve those problems.

Taibbi uses wit, great writing and an entertaining defense of journalism (as a purveyor of knowledge to and for the people) to lambast CBS's chief foreign correspondent on her criticism of Michael Hasting's Rolling stone article. Great read.

    Leo Buscaglia

Look around you! Leo Buscaglia, the late professor at USC, taught a Love class. He was called the Love Doctor. He was also a well known speaker and lecturer around the country.

At one conference he gave a speech and it probably was on love and helping people. After his speech a woman came up to him and said that she would like to do more but she did not know what to do. Leo said to her, “Look around you.” There are probably many people who say what they should do. All they have to do is to look around and see what they need to do. There really is a lot that we can do. Hurricane Katrina was an eye opener for Americans.

There is so much pain and suffering in the world that there is never lack of any work for good to be completed by people. Look around you and you will know how much you will need to do to help your brothers and sisters.

    No Super Humans

Leo Buscaglia gave a speech at a conference and someone asked him if he knew of any super human beings? Leo said that he did not know of any one whom he would consider a super human being. He went on to say that whenever some people try to consider himself or herself a super human being, we should picture the person on a toilet and they become very human. Remember there are no super human beings.

    Common Humanity

A person made a comment about Leo Buscaglia who said that there were no super human beings. When a person is taking a crap, we can view him or her as common humanity and there are no super humans.

I said that maybe negotiations should take place in a communal bathroom where every negotiator is taking a crap at the same time. These negotiations could center on justice and peace. People would meet as part of common humanity and everyone is the same and no egos to separate the people. Common humanity is necessary in discussing serious world issues.

The Tea Partiers (Baggers) have been told by their astroturf groups to think that government shouldn't be regulating anything. In fact, their latest meme is that government needs to get out of the way so that BP can do an even more effective job.

Further, by all means, big bad mean ole government should most certainly NOT use this to bring light to the harms of what being addicted to oil means for the human race and its effect on our planet ... look the other way, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

    Caymen Islands

Caller has vital question. We could win the Conservatives here on this alone. I know from all my debates- just this piece alone. Is there a list of which corporations are off shore in the Caymen Islands.

There's a saying in the boat maintenance industry: "Don't maintain your boat daily, dust begins to accumulate; don't maintain your boat weekly, salt and grime begins to set in; don't maintain your boat monthly and corrosion starts to take effect." The same applies to our political climate, "Don't vote in elections, and the best politicians don't get the office; don't work locally in your party, and your representative doesn't represent your point of view; don't demand clean elections, and political corruption sets in."

The more and more you let it go, the worse it gets exponentially, to the point where doing the simple preventative maintenance isn't enough anymore.
