Mr. McHugh can shroud his position in whatever 'scholarly' nomenclature he wants. But there is an objective reality, regardless of what a human being says about it. Does Mr. McHugh deny that when his hand hits a table, it makes a noise? Does he deny that the light reflecting off of that same table provides agreement, independent of me, that it is in fact there? As Alan Watts wrote, and I agree, "I have no desire to remove from anyone a truth he/she holds dear." But the fact remains that the Japanese did bomb Pearl Harbor, Lincoln was murdered, and the Sun did in fact appear this morning...whether or not I witnessed, believe, or deny such phenomenon.

Ironic that after years of Christian railing against the "relativists," they wish to assert that reality is about what you believe, rather than what is verifiably true, regardless of any human being's view of the matter.

I've decided to resist being called a "secular humanist" by the Christians. I now declare that my belief in Evolution, Darwinism, etc. is my religion. Going forward, in so far as I'm concerned, Evolution is my faith, sacred in the extreme. The Origin of Species is my sacred scripture, and it was written by a man inspired by my God. I am no longer "secular," so the Christians may quit calling me that, thank you. Partaking of religion is a choice, even the Christians don't deny that, otherwise why would they keep trying to get me to choose their religion?

Time to stop accepting, as a matter of course, the labels the Christians' apply to those of us who chose a different religion.

    Thank you, Glenn

    Charles in OH,

Kucinich stood for all the right things, then was "disinvited" to attend the remaining (corporate-sponsored) presidential debates...

Again, everybodies favorite Democrat, Dennis Kucinich, pledged to get out of both NAFTA and WTO during his '08 presidential primary campaign.

The health Insurance hand-out will pass:

The 35 or so Congress DLCers who are “fence-sitting” are more concerned with securing campaign funds for their upcoming election runs and don't care what is in the bill or when or even if it passes.

I believe that the DLCers in the White House desire a 'win' and are not above paying off their pro-corporatist brethren by ordering Kaine to raid the DNC coffers and siphon campaign funding to the villainous scum who are ironically registered as DEMS.

Remember Senator Lieberman negotiated the precise bill that DLCers’ in the White House desired and they are not about to let that slip away.

Creationists data mine scientific writings all the time. They take a simple question presented.........and they scream.......aha we got you. The simple answer to this, is simply read the answer to the question proposed. It's usually there. Where's the evidence for ID. Creationists are left with the only thing that they have, attack..........attack........evolution. They haven't a shred of evidence for their own beliefs.

    Serious gaps in the Bible:

    1. God made people speak different languages so that they couldn't finish the Tower of Babel, but it doesn't say the Tower was destroyed. So it should still be there, right?

    2. God punished the snake by making it be legless and eat dust. It does not say God took away its ability to talk.

    3. There's no story of God telling anyone what happened during the first 5 days of existence. So how would anyone know?

@Arlan Boll: That was because Senator Lieberman was extorting out of the Senate the precise bill that the White House desired. Joseph is carrying water for the Obama Administration just like he did for the GWBush Administration.

@Mugsy: besides, what about freshwater aquatic mammals like otters, and freshwater frogs and turtles? they could have all swum along behiind the ark in a long caravan.

    @ harry

Is the Earth speeding up since we are living longer? Or, is this just because God has intervened to allow for advancements in medicine?

@Mugsy How do they reach the surface in fresh water? Same way as in salt water. What makes you think aquatic mammals can't swim in fresh water? Yes, salt water is more buoyant, but so what?

13 Dems, including Kucinich, voted against the original House bill. These 13 stood behind their "principles" the first time around and should not be expected to do anything other than the same for the Senate version. However, 27 Dems voted for the original House bill that are not voting for the Senate bill. These are the Representatives that should be paraded before the media. I have yet to see the 27 named.

@ Charles: "I was tought that 1 day of the Lord was equal to 1000 years. If man was created on Day 6, that math does not make sense."

I figured it out. Its like this: How did Methuselah live to be 969 years old? Back then, the earth was spinning a lot faster, and a day was only about 40 minutes long. The earth has slowed down a lot since then, so people live the same amount of TIME, but fewer DAYS! Just think about it. That explains everything! (and I wasnt even home=schooled) :D

    Tom,

Sorry for being off topic...this might be important.

For holding out the possibility of a public option or a single payer health care plan yesterday President Obama called out Dennis Kucinich BY NAME to help the President pass his health care bill with out such a plan. I don't remember the President calling out Senator Lieberman or any of the other Blue Dog Democrats BY NAME when they turned down the public option during there voting on health care in the senate. In my mind this is hypocritical and shows me where the President stands. Kucinich is on the correct side of health care. Senator Lieberman and the blue dogs were not.
