“The Progressive Agenda to Combat Inequality,”. Why don't they just say socialism. Or wealth distribution. I don't believe for one second America wants inequality. No matter what you do you all live the same that's so un American. A huge part of what America is creating something from nothing. Not creating wealth so the government takes it away and gives it to someone else. Who would bother taking all those risks and all the hard work if that was the case. How many great inventions come from Cuba or China. There is a billion poeple in China, did they invent computers or penicillin? No of course not there is no incentive there to do it. If we follow the large minium wage rule why don't we go further and give all students a min. 85 % on all their tests. It's not fair that some do their homework and get better grades.

Corporate, profit driven entities do not have ability to percieve humanity

Is that a definition of psychopath behaviour?

They are not afraid of promoting FACISM in your face are they?

They rely on the fact that Americans have no damned idea what it IS, what it means or the black and, indeed bleak outcome that ultimately results from it's rise

Americans helped the fight against FACISIM in many wars... notably WW1; WW2; Japanese

I think general populace America has been duped or dumbed down

The caller who suggested that Bernie do a college tour was 'right on.' Free college could get a lot of enthusiastic supporters into the streets and polling places. Just describing Scandinavian socialism can open a lot of minds. A traveling show with Elizabeth Warren, Prof. Wolff, etc. WOW! Remember teach-ins?

Since Bernie will be going up against bails of money; he'll need lots of free labor to win the Presidency and Democratic majorities in Congress.

Democrats that voted for cloture on TPA (H.R. 1314):
    CO: Bennet (my senator)
    CA: Feinstein
    DE: Carper, Coons
    FL: Nelson
    MO: McCaskill
    ND: Heitkamp
    NH: Shaheen
    OR: Wyden
    VA: Kaine, Warner
    WA: Cantwell, Murray

The passage of the cloture vote means that there will be 30 more hours of debate, then a vote on actual passage.

The main-stream media should be pulling for Bernie Sanders, because he is happy to take any question and wouldn't blackball a reporter. Imagine how much access they'll have when the President isn't afraid to talk to them.

Today NPR cites a scientific study that will be published in the journal Science. http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2015/05/15/406757551/what-it-takes-to-lift-families-out-of-poverty

The study gives research-based proof that progressive methods of aiding the poor actually do have long lasting benefits. It seems to follow that it costs society less to help the poor out of poverty, than to maintain a system that tolerates poverty. This study can provide support to "The Progressive Agenda to Combat Inequality".

    Greedy Oligarchic Putzes.

Hephaestus, I had never encountered the term "casting vote", but of course was familiar with the concept. Thanks for the vocabulary.

Mayor de Blasio won with over a 70% majority. Even if his victory had been 99% the corporate media does what it's masters tell them to do. The game is fixed, and any changes will be very hard to come by. We all know now that "Hope and Change" was nothing more than a lie. The next big oil spill will be in the Artic. It should show up really nicely against the white background.

Very likely due to ongoing under funding of the various regulatory agencies that have been mandated to ferret out potential problems and violators. It's not hard to break the law when theirs no cops on the street ! But there continues to be sufficient funding to bail out private banks who were allowed to run free selling unregulated derivatives because the FTC, an agency created a year after the FED came into existence, lacked the funding and experienced personnel to discover and prosecute the vast corruption ! Can we really be surprised that the cops bailed out in droves to take highly paid positions with the institutions that they were investigating ?

Limbaugh seems to be going out of his way to make himself less and less relevant. One of the most effective ways he accomplishes this feat is whenever he opens his mouth about religious matters. LOL, evangelical "Bible thumper" cherry pickin' conservative local congregations (some of which even have the nerve to acquiese in letting their all powerful local head pastors to anoint themselves "bishops," and their wives as (salaried, and fully vested with bennies, no less) "first ladies"--better keep the Henry VIII of American Marriage Standards at arm's length lest they start losing members of their flocks who have practically ran as far from the original source of respectable Christianity as they can without embracing all out cults till they find "home."

Maybe Limbaugh's real goal is to become the next Rushdooney? Rest assured, he'll find a home with that bunch, and likewise.

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability usb-c adapters and visual appearance. I must say that you've done an awesome job with this. In addition, the blog loads very fast for me on Safari. Superb Blog!

For the first time the US may need foreigners to help monitor the integrity of our national elections . Have we become a 3rd world nation unable to manage our own elections?

  • Should business leaders help push Congress to fund infrastructure?   10 years 6 weeks ago

Both are actually a right answer.

Agree with your point that the total members should be changed from 6 to 7.

Clearly those who designed it knew that buying 3 votes is cheaper than 4.

To the bigger point, a European parlimentary democracy avoids this US schizoid style of governing.

The winning party or coallition of parties fills all the oversight committees with their own people.

Those members then get their shot at fixing problems with their ideas.

If they fail in the public view, they are swept out when the ruling party is voted out.

While our "checks and balances" form of democracy has for over two hundred years indeed prevented the rise of a king, we now suffer from rule by a two headed dragon.

A dragon whose heads agree on nothing and whose heads must thus produce gridlock.

I'm going to swerve off topic and invite some suggestions on the following:

GOP has always stood for Grand Old Party. But these days, maybe the letters G, O, and P should stand for something else, such as Greedy Old Party. So break out your thesarus' and come up with some suggestions.

stecoop01 ~ Here's one for you... How about Grotesque Opulent Parasites?

Quote ulTRAX:In a hyper-partisan environment, what should we expect when there are only six commissioners and no more than 3 can be members of the same party? Why aren't there and odd number of commissioners to break ties? Why aren't there any members who are independents? Why aren't they ALL independents?

ulTRAX ~ You took the words right out of my mouth. Here's a thought. How about a disinterested third party sits in to break ties. Might I suggest a rotating order of Supreme Court Justices?

AIW, stecoop1 -- You also need to consider the teachings of Gore Vidal. He pointed out that no matter how well you succeed, your ego is not satisfied unless your high school buddies are failing.

  • Reaganism Caused Yesterday's Train Crash   10 years 6 weeks ago

Not only did the auto industry fight train "modernization", but also big oil (you know, Kend's overlord). Thom gives the example of the "red cars" in Los Angeles ("red cars" were the streetcars that ran from downtown LA to the beach). Back in the early 20th century, GM and Standard oil told the govt that they would run them and they wouldn't have to raise taxes. Those "billionaires" made the "red cars" run so badly, everyone thought that driving to the beach was a great idea.
