We left-wingers understand that terrorism is a type of attack. It is not defined by the motivation.

Terrorist acts are committed for a legitimate reason or an illegitimate reason. But right-wingers think the motivation is part of the definition. So what left-wingers label as terrorist attacks, such as the mass murder by Anders Brevik (because it's a mass attack on innocents intended to intimidate a demographic), right-wingers don't, because they consider the motivation legitimate (Christian supremacy in this case). Pundits like those on Fox News will never label white, non-Muslim terrorists as terrorists, because they agree with the motivation. This makes them terrorist sympathizers.

2950-10K -- Please quit saying unrepresentative government. It is the republicans. If we had a super-majority of dems, the labor unions would be sure to have us working on hemp and the infinite number of new jobs it would create.

  • TPP/SHAFTA-Ross Perot is still right...   10 years 23 weeks ago

Perot was also correct about this outcome, he predicted that corporations would continuously relocate their operations around the planet until they found the cheapest labor, the lowest taxes, and no environmental requlations.

I fail to see any benefits connected with any of these new foreign trading markets, especially when it requires that the terms of these agreements will take
precedence over existing U.S. Legislation and Regulations. Americans are currently being drowned by a lopsided balance of trade that has produced a wave of foreign imports that are manufactured in foreign factories that were once located here and provided living wage jobs for the citizens of this country. Essentially the only thing we export now is U.S. Dollars to pay for all these imports !

Every once and a while I have to listen to the 92 Perot Campaign debate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkgx1C_S6ls and the Sucking Sound prediction that, twenty three years later, has become a sad reality. Perot was also a large stock holder in GM and was a member of the GM Board of directors. He warned us about the incompetence in that organization, incompetence that has delayed the repair of known defects in their products that have killed several Americans. In addition, American taxpayers were later forced to bailout this company and save associated private Wall Street investment banks to the tune of Billions of Dollars that still haven't been paid back in there entirety !

Caller Scott, who's a Soc. Sec. lawyer has a story just like mine. I too have a friend that should be trying to get disability benefits under SSDI, but won't because he thinks welfare recipients are just people ripping off the taxpayers. This friend is a total indoctrinee of the right wing, but I want the best for him. When it comes up, I'll try to get him to understand that he's been paying into this insurance program for years, and it's time for him to receive benefits, just like with any other insurance.

Not sure the bullet train is such a good idea.

Brown is doing some good things--better than many-- but parts of CA could be under water by 2030.

Also, he refuses impose a moratorium on fracking,

He's got a vision but it's not sufficient.

How about DC be a little more like a Democracy?

  • DC should be a little more like CA!   10 years 23 weeks ago

Thanks for being honest Dr 818. It's not just the hundreds of billions it will cost but it is the trillions the tax payers will have to subsadise it forever as well. No one will ride it because we spent trillions on infrustuture for cars. Why not spend that money on better roads so no one is sitting on the freeways burning fuel at a stand still for hours.

I am all for clean energy. Four years ago I installed a 12 KhW solar system. I voted for the proposition to build the bullet train. Unfortunately, what we voted for, what we were told it will do and what we were told it would cost is not what we are getting. The train even at current projections will cost more than twice what was promised. That means about 5 times when all is said and done. When the train actually reaches from San Francisco to Los Angeles it really doesn't. You will have to actually take three trains (two of which are already in operation and certainly not bullets) to get from SF to LA. And of course the projected 2 hour and 40 minute trip is a fantasy. Furthermore the ridership projections have been cut numerous times because the numbers were literally pulled out of....well you get the idea. Lastly because of the cost to build and the lack of ridership the ticket prices will be more than flying.

I lived on the East Coast for many years and loved to take Amtrak from DC to NY so I'm not against trains. I just don't want to build one that will not get cars off the road and will be a financial burden for my children and their children.

This is a boondoggle to create jobs for union laborers. I have no problem with that. Give them the jobs, pay them but tell them to stay home to save money.

  • Should our banking system be nationalized?   10 years 23 weeks ago

Absolutely, And Citizens United must be overturned. Corporations are not human. The energy sector should, if not nationaized, then at least must be regulated more incluidng requirements industry specific cleanups. Finally, in the absense of real campaign finance reform, term limits. Electing third party candidates and Indies would be great too!

Maybe someday we can have a bullet train going from california to Las Vegas, the one thing we need to do is to catch up with the rest of the world on modernizing our transportation system, our health care system, our education system and many other social systems.

I am a computer engineer with an old school experiense.

Worked for the financial industry for 28 years. Now without work

The internet is like a public swiming pool. Everybody jumps in with all kind of infections.

The once that are not infected they get an infection.

Unfortunately the infections cannot be stopped

    Why?

Because it is CODE written by humans and humans can modify the CODE any way they want it.

That is why internet will never be protected

Internet security experts are just a pile of corupted scam artists.

Typical examples are the resent hacks at Twiter, Youtube, Tarkget, police in Texas and so on. As well as who know how many govermet computer systems were hacked without us knowing it

Too many of those WWII people are stuck in the days of communism and don't have a clue what it is to share the load in society. They don't know that a comrad is not comradery where we work together for a better America lifting up those who need it to enjoy being American. A carpool is using the benefits of more than one. Group life insurance is allowing a group to pool monies to pay great debts. They push off paying taxes like it's a bad thing until they get the benefits of it, but don't let a poor or disabled person get it.

Governor Brown learned everything he knows about being awesome from being the former Mayor of Oakland, California. The water here brings out the best in people.

Think how much money can be saved by not having to vacation in a warmer climate during the winter. Retires will not have to move from Chicago to Sun City, AZ. It will be just as warm.

The scammers are used to getting whatever they want.

In a democratic society, FCC chair Tom Wheeler, former lobbyist and current sympathizer for the telecommunication industry, would not exist. The unbelievable open corruption of US government institutions has gone well beyond shameless greed to open contempt for Democracy. Public opinion is clear on the matter of net neutrality, yet certainty of public protection is still in doubt.

  • Should the U.S. have stronger regulations on chemical plants?   10 years 23 weeks ago

Absolutely. I also think the industry itself should be responsible for all cleanups, not the taxpayer. If a site is abandoned, then it's up to the industry to make it safe. This should go for the oil and gas industry as well as coal. Make the industries police themselves and not fall back on the taxpayer.

reply to DAnneMarc: Surely industrial hemp could be a big part of the solution...... in the same manner that regulations should have made 100 mpg combustible gasoline engines the norm the last four decades. However you and I both know solutions like these do not enrich the Carbon Barons and thus get nixed by our corpse/billionaire controlled unrepresentative government.
