Czars?

czar imagesThe AIG chief gets the first OK for his $10.5 million pay package. Pay Czar - Kenneth Feinberg gave the formal OK for Benmosche's salary.  Speaking of Czars - Five constitutional experts told the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday “that President Obama’s extensive use of policy ‘czars’ is legal — as long as the officials do not overstep their authority.”  While millions in pay for companies you and I have paid out is a real and terrible thing, the whole business of attacking presidential advisors who have been called "czars" since the Andrew Jackson administration in the 1830s.  This are just more Republican efforts to change the topic.

My wife and I saw Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story.

I favor Democracy but I have little use for Capitalism, especially Predatory Capitalism.

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a literary descendent of Ben Franklin and Tom Paine. His unflinching observations and deep passion inspire us to explore contemporary culture, politics, and economics; challenge us to face the facts of the societies we are creating; and empower us to demand a better world for our children and grandchildren."
John Perkins, author of the New York Times bestselling book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
From Unequal Protection, 2nd Edition:
"Beneath the success and rise of American enterprise is an untold history that is antithetical to every value Americans hold dear. This is a seminal work, a godsend really, a clear message to every citizen about the need to reform our country, laws, and companies."
Paul Hawken, coauthor of Natural Capitalism and author of The Ecology of Commerce
From Unequal Protection, 2nd Edition:
"Hartmann combines a remarkable piece of historical research with a brilliant literary style to tell the grand story of corporate corruption and its consequences for society with the force and readability of a great novel."
David C. Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World and Agenda for A New Economy
