Is Tennessee on the Edge of Legalizing Political Bribery?

The state of Tennessee is trying to reform its electoral system – by flooding it with corporate cash. A new bill has been approved in both the state House and Senate committees – that will allow corporations to contribute directly to political candidates – and increase the amount of money that political action committees – or PACs – are allowed to throw behind a candidate of their choosing.
As House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Turner said about the new bill, “It’s going to be like an arms race with Democrats and Republicans trying to compete for this corporate cash.” Of course – when both parties are working to get corporate cash – guess whom they’re not working for? You and me and the rest of the working class.
There may be a lot of things wrong with elections in America – but I don’t think TOO LITTLE corporate cash is the problem.

Are Satan’s disciples guilty of hate crimes? I believe definitely these devils are guilty of hate crimes.
A university town in Alabama is devastated by a tornado. This red state wants the federal government to help rebuild the town with taxpayers’ money. This same red state refuses to increase taxes on the rich and on corporations and now they want tax money for help. Why should Alabama receive any taxpayer money? These acts of nature will continue and more and more money will be needed and so tax increases for the rich and for corporations are needed and required.

Progressives are grasping to be excited at anything. Here is an example. The polls reveal that Nazi governors’ numbers are low in the polls. Polls do not excite me because the Nazis will always remain in the majority. Here are my reasons. Our electronic voting machines are rigged. Factual! The Nazis will eliminate from voting – low income people, students, and racial minorities. Factual! In heavy Democratic districts voting booths will be scarce so that the voting lines are long. Factual! The lobbyist party with the money will pay off politicians to vote a certain way. Factual!

Just following up on my previous comment above. I just heard you announce that James Galbraith is on your TV show tonight. What a great guest to have on. Prof. Galbraith is very familiar with MMT (Modern Monetary Theory), which I referenced above. I hope that, in your discussion with him, you get into his view of the government deficit and why it is not a problem and why budget cuts and austerity measures at this time will be disastrous for the economy. In short, Prof. Galbraith can explain that, since we went off the gold standard in 1971, there is really no difference anymore between the government printing bonds or the government "printing money" -- both are just liabilities (IOUs) of the US government, one bears interest and the other doesn't. As a result, there is no solvency issue or bankruptcy risk for the US government as it cannot run out of US dollars that it alone creates. The only constraint with respect to deficit spending is inflation and right now, with unemployment and underemployment very high and lots of excess capacity in the economy, inflation does not pose any risk.

OFF topic I know, but republican politicians should be charged with crimes against humanity and genocide! THEY do not want the middle and lower classes to receive a living wage or decent health care both of which result in a slow death from exhaustion due to hard work and death from lack of good health care.
Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group, as such:
Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
THEY are social darwinists who believe the government should help the rich live long and prosper. THE government should let the rich exploit the working class until they die from hard work and exhaustion. AND the government should just let the poor die off from starvation and disease because they never will amount to anything anyway and are a drain on the rich.

We are unwilling surfers on a tidal wave of legalizing corporate crime, and yes buying elections is still a crime. The leaders of mega-corporations steal our resources, energy, homes, savings, elections, schools, churches and common institutions, slumify our infrastructure, deny us "workers" healthcare and living wages, systematically make us doubt ourselves, move us repeatedly all over the country and world splitting us from our families and friends, cause deliberate trauma, poisoning and suffering. These are effective mechanisms of keeping people weak, tired and stressed so they do not revolt against the tyrants of slavery and abuse. We must scrape ourselves up off the road and revolt with every speck of energy we can access from the universe.

Reaganomics - Bush - Goldman FED boys made it far worse by givng huge cuts to CO that sent good jobs overseas.& pushing Free not fair markets & Trade . This led to a giant bubble that exploded ..leading to a recession- depression - Bush Paulson global crash TARP Clinton left a surplus-balanced budget -created millions of new jobs ...simply by some careful cutting & raising top tax rate a bit. Thats what we need now NOT more corp / billionaire cuts- loopholes & oil, gas subsides. Bush 's tax cuts did nothing for jobs, wages or our standard of living .

Thom your right, laws making it ever easier to flood the system with corporate cash both nurture and perpetuate a dysfunctional democracy which expresses the will of only a select group of people. When Cleisthenes first introduced the concept of democracy in 509 BC, democracy meant "PEOPLE POWER" coming from the Greek word demos. Their system was also far from functional. A huge segment of the population not represented were slaves and women.
How is it possible that after 2500+ years we have not progressed beyond ancient civilization when it comes to representative government? Our founders clearly intended "WE THE PEOPLE", much like Cleisthenes intended "PEOPLE POWER". If we are to progress the answer is Democratic Socialism, even if it's a Scandinavian model. It's both a democratic and humanitarian method of rule. The current system of, " those with the gold make the rule" , has proven over and over again to be a miserable republican failure.
Maybe we should change the wording of Democratic Socialism to DEMOCRATIC FUNCTIONALISM, even though I hate being apologetic due to a moronic demonization of the term socialism. Let's hope this pure form of democracy becomes the good place we all end up!

HEAVEN
On April 29, 2011 Thom for one of his segments talked basically about life after death. I will share with you some of my ideas and thoughts about life after death. Let me share with you some information on me. I am a sinner and only through the mercy of God will I have any chance to be with God and the communion of saints in heaven. My background is not philosophy (I did have two courses in college), religion, and theology. I have never had an out of body experience. I did have a massive heart attack in 1994. As I was in the emergency room, I did feel the presence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, over my bed to protect me against death and the devil. According to three doctors I beat the odds.
John Paul II, while he was pope, he said that hell is not a physical place. Hell is more like the realization we will never be with God and His communion of saints. I have thought about hell as brimstone and fire, a place of total hatred, and never to see the beatific vision of God for all eternity.
I am going to share with you an experience while my wife and I were visiting Yellowstone National Park. In the park there are two or three small waterfalls near each other. To reach these falls you have to go to a downward path for about one hundred feet. The downward path is not steep. As I reached the end of the path near the falls, I found myself in a totally quiet place, no wind or sound from the leaves. I felt totally at peace. I believe that heaven is a place where a person feels totally at peace; where there is an eternity of love; and where the beatific vision of God is shared with us upon our death. We will also be thankful to God for His mercy.
We will be in heaven in a spirit form. After God comes down for the Last Judgment and the souls are divided between heaven and hell, our bodies will return to you and me for eternity and our final destination. The Son of God will be in heaven with His human body. To be in hell will be like an endless nightmare where hatred never dies.

You got the facts right... The Americans are not important but the foreign oil and control are... We quickly send aids to Japan but we forget about New Orleans... How do you rationalize that?
Quickest way to start helping the Americans again is:
1 - Move the jobs and manufacturing back to US
2 - Elect other parties excluding Rep, Dem and Tea
3 - Stop military spending on foreign countries.
4 - Rise tax on the rich and corps etc etc etc

Don't get me wrong. I am not in favor of tax cuts for the rich at all. Income inequality in this country is one of our biggest problems, as Thom often points out, and I believe that substantially raising taxes on the rich and making the tax rate structure highly progressive again in a key means of addressing income inequality and making our economy run better. What I am saying is that we cannot let deficit hysteria stand in the way of additional government spending and stimulus (targeted to Main Street, not Wall Street) to help pull the economy out of this hole and to alleviate the suffering of the working class, middle class and the poor, and/or tax cuts for the working and middle classes (which would put more money in their pockets which they will spend, which will stimulate the economy - - unlike tax cuts for the rich, who are more likely to save than spend such tax cuts). I have been listening to Thom since 2003 or 2004 and I fully agree with him that we need to roll back the Reagan tax cuts, and I like what Robert Reich has been saying in recent columns about raising taxes on the rich while significantly lowering taxes on everyone else to get the economy going. Such additional government spending and tax cuts for the middle and lower classes should be undertaken even though they may temporarily increase the deficit further, because the focus right now should be on the recession and not the deficit. My point in citing Randy Wray above is that all government deficit spending is spending INTO the private economy (nongovernment sector) and is not necessarily a bad thing if it is spent on programs for (or tax cuts for) the middle and lower classes rather than on giving away more money to big banks and Wall Street, and that, contrary to the prevailing wisdom, running a surplus for anything more than a very brief period of time is actually not a good thing for the economy.

Lindsze, You're correct in calling attention to an often overlooked and ugly fact of American history. Colonial egocentrism and modern day prejudice have marginalized indigenous people. Why in 2011 we still don't get the self evident truth, that all men are created equal and possess certain unalienable Rights, dumbfounds me.
I'm a descendant with direct male lineage to an indentured servant who in 1637 had to work off his passage at a manorial estate called Fort Orange, near present day Albany,N.Y. I bring this up because of the place and time. Not far east of there that same year a Puritan force slaughtered 500 Pequot indian men ,WOMEN,and CHILDREN! Considering the position my ancestor was in, I can only hope he shed a tear or two when he heard the news. The oppressed and unrepresented are all brothers and sisters.

My wife has a knitting class one day per week. In the class is a woman whose aunt is approaching ninety. She lives in Florida. Her driver’s license needs to be renewed. Plus, she needs to reregister to vote. The aunt needed the original birth certificate, the original marriage license, her husband’s death certificate to prove she is a widow, and proof of permanent residency for Florida, such as a home, townhouse, or condominium. I do not know if an apartment, senior citizen home, or trailer qualifies for permanent residency. Florida is harassing the elderly, taking away their freedoms and rights, and removing them from the voting booth. They seek to always be in the majority. Our Supreme Court that really runs Nazi America will vote in Florida’s favor. The Catholic Mafia on the Supreme Court is anti-poor and anti-working class. The U.S. Supreme Court is an extension of our Anti-Christ nation.

"Covington pled guilty on September 5, 2003, to mail fraud and failing to file federal income tax return. According to the indictment, from June 1997 until at least January 1998, Covington devised a scheme to defraud persons who believed that they were investing their funds in a hotel project in downtown Nashville using his corporation, OCVOC Investment Holdings, Inc. Covington instead used these funds for his personal living expenses.

At one time the tree we now know as the dogwood attained the size of a forest oak. Its wood was hard and firm, a favored timber of the cross. Jesus in His hour of death paused to make a compassionate promise.

I believe that most people who make comments on Thom’s blog will admit that they have learned much from listening to his radio show. We know that Thom is intelligent and in his early school years he was placed in a gifted program. Gifted students can learn more quickly than average students. Thom was able to learn quickly. He is a progressive person and he believes that America has a future. I am twelve years older than Thom and no way close to his gifted intelligence. Age does have some value. I must disagree with Thom and say that the United States of Mortal Sin does not have a future.
Even Einstein is no way near as intelligent as Satan’s disciples, the conservative crazies, the GOP, the Republicans, the Libertarians, the Tea Baggers, the Lobbyists, the rich, and American corporations. These groups are brilliant.
You have only to see the Florida law and others states will model their state similar to Florida’s law. These crazy people will remain in control forever.
I am not a psychiatrist but I am only an average person who can offer an opinion. I would have to say that the United States of Mortal Sin, aka an Anti-Christ nation, is certifiably crazy where most Americans are psychotic. People may disagree with me but there can be no doubt that most Americans are sociopaths, the lunatic fringe. Believe it or not!!!

I agree that everyone should have the opportunity to vote and I am not a fan of having to provide all of this stuff as well, however what is your solution for ensuring only American citizens vote? I would assume that you are not an advocate of individuals who are not citizens to vote?
I live in Oregon and have enjoyed getting to vote by mail, it increases the odds that at least I will get my vote in the mail - not saying it addresses the point above.

@juddyak, thank you for your comments! I would like to see ACORN return to have citizens register to vote. Since I am over 60, I can vote by an absentee ballot. Voting by mail may require more scrutiny of qualified voters. I believe that the voting booths should open on a Tuesday of the scheduled date, such as 7:00 AM and the voting booths close at 11:00 PM on Wednesday. That would mean the polls would be open for forty hours. More voting machines in urban areas! A treasonous act for rigged electronic voting machines! Welcome more low income voters, the aged population to vote, and racial minorities to vote! Be a true democracy in our country before we preach, kill, and maim human populations in other countries about democracy! I am definitely for all AMERICANS to vote and all AMERICANS should be encouraged to vote by making all AMERICANS feel like they are AMERICANS!!!
I believe that American corporations and the American rich are not true Americans because spew too much hatred toward the poor and working classes in our country.

When we were visiting our son on the West Coast, we had a chance to see the movie, “I AM.” There were four words in the movie that I remember. These words were cooperation, sympathy, love, and connection. I believe that these four words should be part of every Americans’ vocabulary.
You may know or not know the name of Leo Buscaglia. He was a professor at USC in California. He taught a class on LOVE. He would also give talks at conferences, workshops, meetings, etc. After one talk a woman came up to Dr. Buscaglia and asked him if he had or could name any superheroes in his life. He said to the woman that he did not have any superheroes because whenever there is talk of superheroes, he pictures these heroes on a toilet and they become regular persons.
Common Humanity
A person made a comment about Leo Buscaglia who said that there were no super human beings. When a person is taking a crap, we can view him or her as common humanity and there are no super humans.
I said that maybe negotiations should take place in a communal bathroom where every negotiator is sitting on a toilet at the same time. These negotiations could center on justice and peace. People would meet as part of common humanity and everyone is the same and no egos to separate the people. Common humanity is necessary in discussing serious world issues.

Incidentally, I was passing through a Home supplies store the other day and noticed that Bayer also is now selling "insecticide" for your gardens...I hope they don't get the insecticide formula mixed with the aspirin! I think we look at this the same way, the more that vote the better. However, I would comment that it just dirties things up when we have to start redefining words for our own porposes. Not that I disagree with your comments about rich and corporations, but it is such a simple thing as to what an American is, and by saying rich should not vote just leaves the definition of who should vote up for discussion. Everyone should vote if we like their view or not.

I would like to share with you some very powerful words from a person whom I consider a disciple of Jesus.

The Debt increases anyway. And you say, following your logic, that we are still collecting too many taxes from the Rich, which is almost nil or none for the Mega-Corporations? That taking money out of the economy via taxes is bad and causes recessions?
ANY Government spending is money going BACK into the economy - unless this money goes to BIG corporations who then take that money and spend it overseas to increase THEIR profits!
Taxing the Corporations and the Super Rich is GOOD for the economy, because that money can then help pay the debt which we owe and pay interest on, so that we can then use a bit of it to help the American people collectively and which benefits the MANY instead of the very few already super rich!

In the first quarter of this year the Oil Mega Multi-Nationals Corporations have made record Profits - $$$26-40 Billion!!
And we are paying $4-5.00+ gas at the gas pump! Everything made with oil - UP! Everything shipped with Oil - UP!
Don't you get the feeling that these Mega-Corporations are waving a BIG Middle Finger at the American People, taunting us? Yup, I sure agree with you there! The cockroaches that have control over this country are a pestilence that greedily commit mass murder in order to get what they want. I listened to the news telling about how Osama bin Laden is dead but they also quickly said "oh, but there are still lots of Al Qaida that need to be taken care of". It wouldn't matter if all there were in Afghanistan were sheep herders, our propaganda ministers will still tell us lies to keep us there. Now the question is are the cockroaches cooking up another false flag operation (like 911) saying that our killing OBL will cause a blow-back attack from terrorists? The politics and financial situation in the US is so dire now that everyone is not buying into the stupid lies that are being told to them about the economy....printing more money and throwing it into the banking system and trying to create yet another bubble in Wall Street (the Dow is up kind of bull-sh!t) while many Americans don't have jobs and are worried about where their next meal is going to come from and where to find shelter....the cockroaches might use another false flag distraction. Where can we expect to see this happen next? New York again? Chicago, DC, San Francisco? I'm sure the cockroaches have already found their patsies and are getting them set up to take the fall like last time. I took another quick peek at the Boob Tube and I see that the cockroaches are plying their propagandist trade...warning that we might get an attack in retribution for OBL's death. I can barely watch the news on TV without disgust in what I am hearing. They claim they killed OBL and they hide the evidence, yet again (hiding evidence...they're good at that) by saying they "gave OBL a traditional Muslim burial...at sea". Uh, duh, how dumb do they think we are? How gullible do they think the people are? There's a pattern here...they hastily shipped all of those steel beams from the WTC over seas to be melted down before anyone could investigate. That's destroying evidence of a crime scene. Looks like they are doing the same thing with OBL's body. So we are just supposed to believe these lying twits that they killed OBL? How do we know that OBL wasn't killed years ago? How do we know that OBL is not still alive...still a CIA asset? Can't believe anything the government or their network lapdogs tell us....it's all suspect...propaganda.
