The Danger of GOP TV's Fox so-called News...

According to a new study – you’re better off watching no news than GOP TV's Fox so-called News. Farleigh Dickinson University surveyed New Jersey residents about the uprisings in the Middle East – and it turns out people who get their news from Fox are 18-points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government compared to people who watch absolutely no news at all.

Similar results were seen when Fox viewers were asked questions about the Syrian uprising too. I guess all the chatter about the Muslim Brotherhood over at GOP TV distracted viewers from the actual news taking place.

So isn’t it about time to strip the word “news” from Fox – and just call the network what it really is – what Roger Ailes envisioned when he first proposed it to Richard Nixon in the 1970’s – GOP TV?

Breaking news, occupation camps are breaking out at shopping centers everywhere. People have spontaniously begun to camp out near doors of local shopping centers, they have brought tents and materials to stay for an extended time. Initial reports are that they are demanding goods at lower prices and surprisingly the shopkeepers are promising to meet their demands. No police presence is reported at this time and.... oh wait sorry my bad, these aren't Occupiers, they're just Black Friday shoppers. Its hard to tell the two camp types apart until you take note of the presence or lack thereof of police.

Amazing how no one is worried about the Black Friday camps public safety? Wonder why?

Or instead of changing the FOX network name to GOP, we can just start using a Fox for the Republican symbol. Though a weasel would be tempting to use too.

How about a skunk...or a vulture...or a vampire bat?
Maybe a leach, cockroach, or maggot? All suitable GOP symbols. But many of the GOP frontrunners could be likened to tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum. Dumb and dumber...all Bush wannabees.

Time for a murder trial...it seems. Mehersle didn't get away with murder...not entirely anyway...and so should the cops who murdered that child..not get away with it. But then, the cops mentality, or that of right wingers, is not any different than what that helicopter in Iraq said after they murdered a dozen civilians....and injured two children..and killed their father....."Oh, well, people shouldn't bring their kids into a battle".

Of course, it wasn't the father, or the children, who entered a battle zone as all of Iraq was a battle zone of the making of the US. The US took the battle zone to the civilians and murdered them.

The ruling elite in the US have created a battle zone all their own when they started this war on the people 30+ years ago with Reaganomics. For 30+ years they have been doing economic battle against us. And I'm afraid that it will end up being much more than just an economic war. It seems inevitable that as the cops continue to get violent...then so will the people, finally, lash out at them...something they well deserve.

Meek people have always been afraid to strike back and fight their oppressors which has resulted in the deaths of millions of people. Their surviving families may benefit from a guilt-ridden conscience of whatever is left of a civilization but those who took the brunt of the oppression got nothing but suffering and death...and if the masses had rebelled...what could the oppressors have done...really? They invent savior lambs to hide behind...which the ruling elite help to foster. Criminal opportunists don't like it when their victims fight back...or even think they should fight back...and so they love phrases like "give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar" and "don't rebel against your masters".

Governments don't advocate hiding behind meek and gentle lambish icons...they use force and strength. And if they did this solely for the protection of the country then it would be a commendable and honorable thing. But they are steered and geared toward a selfish and greedy endeavor and their violence is not commendable. So why can't the people of such corrupt and criminally oriented governments, at least, be praised for standing up for their basic rights of survival..even if it means doing what their own government advocates...violent means to achieve the desired ends. Sure, it would be very nice if we could all hold hands and sing Kumbaya if that would achieve the ends we must have. But it looks like the police will be cracking more heads, spraying more pepper spray, and murdering more unborn children before the people really rise up and put the fear of zod* into the brains of greedy and selfish men (and women?).

*Zoroaster, Odin, and Demeter...the only true gods...the trinity. ;-}

Heck yes I have noticed that phenomenon for years. Clearly Fox is a huge mind-programming machine and a dangerously malevolent one. Our daughter worked at a local news/talk radio station for years until recently. We tuned her in every chance we got. The bummer was that we sometimes had to hear the 'Fair and balanced' promo. In my head I had to change the promo to 'fairly unbalanced' just to keep my head from exploding. I was being more than kind with the 'fairly' part. No, thank God, Skye did not get sucked into the cult... She loves radio. Regrettably we have no actual 'Fair and balanced' stations in our town. PEACE! Billy

Yes, a person within our family circle said to the effect "we have to give tax breaks to the Rich, because they are the job creators..." and this person along with his spouse were quoted in a newspaper article complaining after their retirement medical insurance was cut by General Motors where they both retired.

Greed Over People TV ? As a unified American people we must join together to fight for our jobs, our health, and our posterity. If we continue down a polarized political road created by corporate money and conservative "think tank" propaganda , then everything that makes our America worth fighting for will be "globalized" into oblivion.

stupid is as stupid does...

fox/gop tv rates up there with goebbel's propoganda machine. except it's more prevalent and has more money than goebbels. if not corrected, our country is toast. The GOP would create death camps if they could... their hate mongering is palpable.

Too many morons, not enough time.

I emailed the article to many relatives most of whom are conservatives. Let the fireworks begin.

My most radical con sister has not responded yet. Unfortunately I think Fox has totally hi-jacked her brain and I dont think anything can be done to get it back. She has been programmed by Fox to believe that Europeans and other foreigners have fangs and eat babies. I told her that she has to take a trip to Europe to see how great Europeans are. Mark Twain said the best way to broaden the nmind is travel. Maybe that's the only thing that will work.

Two of my Republican friends rely on Fox News for their information. They believe everything they hear and they do not trust any other news media. They do not trust network television, they do not trust any of the major newspapers. They have been told by the Fox News staff that the reason they do not hear these stories other places is that the mainstream media are afraid to tell the truth. They tell their viewers that they are the only source to be trusted. They have become a kind of religion to the viewers. When I tell my friends that a particular story is not true and send them to another source my friends tell me that they don't trust that source. One friend told me that Snopes and Wikipedia could not be trusted because they were controlled by left-wingers. Once, when a terrible lie was being told that accused a scientist of having a view that global warming is a hoax, I visited that professor's personal website at his university. On his website he was complaining that some right wingers were telling a lie and using his name without his permission. When I told my friend that this story he was telling me and his friends was completely untrue, he would not believe me. When I finally convinced him to visit the professor's website, he finally agreed to see for himself. He reluctantly told me that the information he was passing out was false. I suggested that it was his responsibility to correct the story he had told his friends. He refused. He said that "even though the story was not true, he liked the story and would not retract it to his friends." This kind of intellectual bankruptcy is common in the Republican Party. They figure the people who support them will believe anything they say, so why not tell lies if the lies will help them get votes. I have long beleived that the United States would not be taken down by external armies. Our biggest risk is death by corruption. If Republicans believe that lying is fair in politics, lying to their supporters, then we are facing a terrible villian from within. These Republicans are behaving more like terrorists than anything else.

I know many Fox viewers including family members and they all seem to have two things in common. They are all climate change deniers and cling to the fairy tale that if you give the 1% everything it will create jobs and eventually trickle down to the Cratchit family...good luck with that!

How do patriots involved in a pro democracy movement like OWS get labeled as a bunch of dirty hippies without focus who think they are all entitled to a free ride?

How does the notion that tear gas, riot gear, billy clubs, and pepper spray are needed in dealing with a group of peaceful citizens from every walk of life...... exercising their first amendment rights?

How do some police officers develop an attitude leading to the usage of assaultive behavior against docile victims?

Why are those who want economic fairness and prosperity for all considered a threat?

The answer to these questions can be traced back to media like GOP TV. Those in control of the corp. media like Murdoch who view democracy as simply an obstacle standing in their way when it comes to the pusuit of greed and power employ tools of mass deception like O'Reilly, Limpbaugh, Beck, Megyn Kelly, etc. to spread their subversion. So who are the real trouble makers? Maybe being sprayed with a harmless food product would straighten out some of these over paid, democracy hating, malcontents!

I am troubled by the willingness of so many Americans to be fed the blather that comes from some of the so-called news outlets. Can you do a story on the future of journalism, and how we can encourage our fellow citizens to be informed by impartial, objective news sources?

I find some of the voices on the left to be troubling as well. A specific example is Randi Rhodes. I feel there is a strong thread of intellectual dishonesty in her broadcasting that provides too much ammunition for the other side to claim "they are just as bad". Ed Shultz falls into it as well, but he is such a stallwart voice for labor and other issues that receive so little attention, that one might forgive his less frequent misrepresentations of certain positions by his opponents in ideology.

I find myself drawn to the voices of credible, intellectually honest people of both conservative and liberal ideologies. I am far more prone to agree with liberals on most topics, and find the conservative viewpoint to be too cold and uncaring to embrace in most cases. But a clear and intelligent representation of their views are important, lest we go too far with certain liberal agendas.

Thom, please consider a segment on how to identify and recommend intellectually honest reporting on all sides of the big issues.

Thanks for what you do.

I don't watch faux GOP TV but I can do an Impression:

"That pregnant woman, the one who joined those filthy hippies at OWS and then claims she miscarried, She should be charged with Child Endangerment while they investigate her for possible charges of 'Murder by Cop'... Let's see some personal accountability enforced here..."

Am I close, or is that too sophisticated for focks?

Sadly so many people have been so poorly educated in logic & critical thinking skills in this country these appear, on their face, to be valid arguments, when they are Absolutely Absurd. The responsibility lies with those in immediate Power to cause or prevent the act. (This goes for financial crises, Wars, everything).

The authorities had the power to abuse or not to abuse the public. The 19 year-old woman had Every RIGHT to be where She was and should have been Protected by police, not attacked by them.

ALL culpability is with a system which would tolerate police abuses & fail to protect our individual rights. The police used to be ashamed & try to hide their abuses. But unelected "president" Cheney-Bush Normalized Torture & made it acceptable to the ignorant, Faux mis-informed & intellectually lazy.

To some (Fox viewers?), It's become cool to disregard people's rights. While touting the Constitution. Completely & utterly contradictory & insane. Conclusion: GOP TV causes Schizophrenia & should be banned as Dangerous. It certainly has NO business being referred to a "news". We must stop Tolerating this Nonsense and Demand Equal justice and accountability for ALL.

They get away with it because We Allow it. Their greed is pathological & they will only stop when we tell them they've gone to far. For me that was in 1980.
