Was that "Abecedarian"? That's pronounced ABC-darian, not with a k sound, since a c followed by an e, i or y cannot sound like a k. Oddly, it is named from the letters ABCD. The Romans apparently didn't think ABC was enough to get the idea across.

Teleophobically ugly? Fear of ends, as in "The End Is Near"?

Yes, the EU has about 500 million people. But specifically, Germany has over 80 million, France and the UK each have about 60 million, Italy is just short of 60 million, Spain has 40 million. And that's pretty much the half-way point in population, just those 5 countries.

Edit: I missed that the 60 million of France and UK counts twice, so you actually hit the half-way point in Italy, with only four countries.

From Screwed:
"I think many of us recognize that for all but the wealthiest, life in America is getting increasingly hard. Screwed explores why, showing how this is no accidental process, but rather the product of conscious political choices, choices we can change with enough courage and commitment. Like all of Thom’s great work, it helps show us the way forward."
Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen and The Impossible Will Take a Little While
From Cracking the Code:
"In Cracking the Code, Thom Hartmann, America’s most popular, informed, and articulate progressive talk show host and political analyst, tells us what makes humans vulnerable to unscrupulous propagandists and what we can do about it. It is essential reading for all Americans who are fed up with right-wing extremists manipulating our minds and politics to promote agendas contrary to our core values and interests."
David C. Korten, author of The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community and When Corporations Rule the World and board chair of YES! magazine
From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann is a creative thinker and committed small-d democrat. He has dealt with a wide range of topics throughout his life, and this book provides an excellent cross section. The Thom Hartmann Reader will make people both angry and motivated to act."
Dean Baker, economist and author of Plunder and Blunder, False Profits, and Taking Economics Seriously
