Let Students Refinance Their Loans

Here’s “student loan debt” part 2. Russ Feingold has launched a campaign to ease the burden of student loans.

As former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold aims to unseat GOP Sen. Ron Johnson, he is promoting a social media campaign advocating for a proposal that would allow students to refinance their loans.

Johnson has called student loan refinancing a "big government giveaway proposal" and also referred to student loans as "free money."

The Republican senator voted against [Sen. Elizabeth] Warren's proposal to allow student loan borrowers to refinance their loans at significantly lower interest rates.

To prevent the bill from adding to the federal deficit, it would enact the "Buffett Rule," imposing a minimum tax rate on millionaires.

Yeesh. Ron Johnson apparently doesn't mind saddling students with more debt—so long as the fortunes of millionaires aren't imposed upon.

The only thing the left is good at is spending other people's money. Taxing someone to pay someone else's debt is so wrong.

I'm so sick of these lefties asking us to pay there bills. Even if a Democrat had a good idea, I would be against it. I'd consider it another ruse to allow him or her to get there hands into my pockets. Enough is enough. Trying earning money to pay the bills.

I don't see what the big deal is with letting kids refinance their loans. They had good intentions when they borrowed the money. Adults telling them that they needed a college education these days. They're still going to pay the money back.

Hi Willie,

It's not illegal to refinance a student loan. This proposal is not a refinance, it's a tax asking someone else to pay off the loan.

That sounds more like it. I should know better than to take things at face value.

From Cracking the Code:
"Thom Hartmann ought to be bronzed. His new book sets off from the same high plane as the last and offers explicit tools and how-to advice that will allow you to see, hear, and feel propaganda when it's directed at you and use the same techniques to refute it. His book would make a deaf-mute a better communicator. I want him on my reading table every day, and if you try one of his books, so will you."

From The Thom Hartmann Reader:
"Thom Hartmann seeks out interesting subjects from such disparate outposts of curiosity that you have to wonder whether or not he uncovered them or they selected him."

From Cracking the Code:
"No one communicates more thoughtfully or effectively on the radio airwaves than Thom Hartmann. He gets inside the arguments and helps people to think them through—to understand how to respond when they’re talking about public issues with coworkers, neighbors, and friends. This book explores some of the key perspectives behind his approach, teaching us not just how to find the facts, but to talk about what they mean in a way that people will hear."
