Take It From A Republican, Deficit Hawks Will Emerge Once The Ink Is Dry On The Tax Cut

Joan McCarter over at Daily Kos writes:

"Take it from a Republican, not just any Republican but a domestic policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the Treasury Department in the Bush 41 White House."

That would be Bruce Bartlett. Bruce Bartlett was the senior economic advisor to Ronald Reagan, he was the domestic policy adviser and he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the Treasury Department during George Herbert Walker Bush's presidency. This guy has impeccable Republican credentials. He helped shape the Reagan and post Reagan era. And he woke up. Bruce Bartlett figured out the scam that the Republicans are running. He tweeted:

"Literally the second the ink is dry on the tax cut, deficit hawks will emerge from their hibernation, where they have had nary a word of criticism about increasing the deficit by $1.5 trillion, to demand that SS & Medicare be slashed b/c the deficit has mysteriously increased."

This is a prediction and I absolutely agree with Bruce Bartlett - I believe that this prediction is 100% true because every single time in the past that this kind of a scenario has happened, this is what's happened. He goes on to say in a piece he wrote for the Washington Post:

"They've played this game before... "For decades, conservative intellectuals have pushed for big tax cuts; less to grow the economy and more because they want to 'starve the beast.' They want to force a major overall spending cut that would be a political non-starter without first passing a tax cut that creates a deficit so large, something must be done about it."

And this is this is nakedly an attempt to cut Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid.

That's what's going on.

deepspace: I'm struggling extremely hard to even talk with Republican friends and family. I even declared a personal war on X-mas because of the rightie god and guns hypocrisy, but after soul searching recently, I've backed off...felt too much like Scrooge.

BTW: I was having a few beers with friends at a local pub last night and given the content of conversation, you'd have thought it was 1773 Boston Pub ...The Kochbaggers are in big trouble. So keep the faith!

@2 Dumb as a worn out for door knob

I don't have Obama Care, me and another 157 million American families have health insurance through our employers......I know it goes against all you washed up lefties believe, but the NY Times (a left leaning paper) says 75% of the country will benefit from the new tax law. So if those 75% vote republican.....well, it will be a Democrat blood bath....it's a good thing you guys are use to losing :))

"Uuuh ...me have health insurance. Uuuh ...me teacher too. All taxpayer funded. Mmm ...me socialism good!" :)---

"The Republican tax bill is an American betrayal -- The American people voted for populism. They got plutocracy." By Ezra Klein

"In reality, by 2027, 62.1 percent of the tax bill’s benefits go to the top 1 percent, and 42.3 percent of the benefits go to the top 0.1 percent."

Ou812, Good to hear you benefit if this goes through. Clearly the leftie/socialists are nervous it will be a positive move for the economy.

We had had this posting before. OU812 thinks that because her/his school pays for part of the health Insurance that it is free. He/she will not admit to what he/she pays or what the school pays. A lot of Americans think this way. Because what they pay is deducted off of their check. They do not have the money in hand. It is when you start paying out of pocket that you realize what it actually is costing you. They also think that they are getting it cheaper than the average person can go buy it and they are not.

Rick Steves,

Interesting to hear you say that because leftie/socialists NEVER talk about the hidden numbers and the thought process that goes into an employer compensating an employee. In leftie world that part of the equation is a forbidden topic.

Now, if I can only get you to stop constantly fretting about other peoples money and understand the fact that CORPORATIONS DO NOT PAY TAXES, their customers do, I may be on the road to converting you to becoming a Republican.

@ 8 Legend,

You really need to finish middle school. I've told you before, I pay $200.00 / pay...twice a month for health care for me and my spouse. I have no idea what amount the board pays for their share. If I opted out of the program, my salary would increase $200.00 / pay. I would not receive the Boards contribution to health care.

I checked with some people here, if you are willing to move to our county and pay taxes, we would be willing to help you finish middle school and continue on to High School. Let us help you, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Every company that I worked for let you know the amount that they were paying. Many companies will give you money if you do not use (opt out) of their medical benefits. They will not give you the full amount because they get to deduct what they pay where you do not. But from experience a medical plan that covers you and your spouse is worth more than $1200 per month. So you are paying $200 and they are paying $1000+. You have an excellent plan as most companies pay 2/3 and the employee 1/3. That is if you are being honest. #9 is just babbeling again.

@11 Legend.

Please provide the names of companies who will pay you for opting out of medical insurance. I don't know of any who do

I do not know if companies broadcast this. Usually done when in this economy both work and have healthcare benefits. One is better than 2. One gets the Opt Out and the other covers. This is an accepted norm. My son in law and daughter do it. You can research it as much as you want. Perhaps you need a good conversation with your HR department.

A New Day of Infamy!

December 20th 2017 has now become a NEW DAY OF INFAMY when our “Satanically inspired” Republicans in both Houses of Congress dishonestly and greedily voted to enable Donald Trump to sign into law a tax reform that amounts to a DEATH WARRANT for hundreds of thousands of American men, women, children, babies, and fetuses (by denying them healthcare) in order to FURTHER ENRICH THEMSELVES as well as further enriching their already wealthy sponsors.

We should establish a new memorial in Washington DC featuring the names, dates of birth and death, uninsured cause of death, and the Congressional district of their victims in this regard. In the meantime, we should establish and widely publicize a website that lists that information for the next ten years at least. We need to hold them publically responsible for the easily predictable consequences of their deadly actions.

When it comes to killing Americans, Donald Trump and our Republicans in Congress are proving to be FAR more deadly than ISIS, El Qaeda, and the Taliban combined (and FAR deadlier than the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor)!

PS: It is also important to note that our nation’s highest GDP growth rates occurred during World War II and the 1950s when the top income tax rate was 90% which along with considerable deficit spending enabled our government to win World War II and to create our nationwide interstate highway system. Most of our wealthy Americans did just fine during those years.

Feel free to publish this or to use these points in your own articles and speeches.
