The Good! *Geoffrey Stone* Stone - a professor of law at the University of Chicago - submitted a statement to Congress yesterday. And - that statement was signed by over 50 America's most distinguished constitutional law professors and scholars. All are in agreement that - despite what many on the far-right say - Congress has more than enough authority under the Constitution to enact legislation aimed at reducing gun violence. If America's best and brightest constitutional scholars say it's legal to save American lives by creating sensible gun control measures - then it's time for Congress to act - regardless of what the NRA and gun nuts will try to say.

What's it matter, they couldn't even spend a billion dollars in their lifetime. That would suddenly free up 1.3 trillion dollars of wealth to be spent and invested in the economy. With the average price of going to college at a state school pegged at roughly $22000 a year, that 1.3 trillion could send 59 million young people - an entire generation - to school. We'd have an entire generation of college graduates who'd have access to good paying jobs - who'd stimulate the economy - who'd pay taxes to lower our deficits - and who'd make American once again the most educated and nation with the most sophisticated workforce on the planet. Or - what about those 150 million Americans who don't have savings and are one setback away from poverty? Imagine if they all had an extra $8000 in their bank account. They wouldn't be so fearful of poverty - they could spend more money in the economy - and they could take more risks \\ Even the billionaires would earn more money now that they have more consumers spending more money at restaurants, at shopping malls, and on vacations. Right now in Texas, a foreign corporation, TransCanada, is using our government's 5th Amendment right of eminent domain to confiscate private land belonging to Americans, to build a massive oil pipeline so TransCanada can ship oil from the Gulf of Mexico to non-Americans around the world. Oil, by the way, that will accelerate our planet's plunge into global warming-induced catastrophe. So the question is, "Why?"

The Good! *Patrice Motsepe* Motsepe - a South African mining billionaire - announced earlier today that he will be giving half of his fortune - including future earnings - to charity. Worth around $2.7 billon - Motsepe said that he wanted to join the Giving Pledge - which encourages the world's wealthiest to give at least half of their wealth to charity. Speaking about his donation - Motsepe said that the money will be used to help the large portion of "poor and other disadvantage and marginalized South Africans." Over half of South Africans live below the poverty line. We can only hope that America's billionaires decide to stand alongside Mr. Motsepe - and donate some of their vast fortunes to help the entire nation and especially those Americans who struggle to survive each day.
