A Typical Day at School in NRA Utopia

Imagine going to school - putting your assault rifle in your locker - and instead of having 1st period English - having 1st period gun safety. This may sound crazy - but in the gun-loving world of Wayne LaPierre and his fellow gun nuts - this would be the typical school day in America.

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Macaronicously Ugly!

The Good! *Geoffrey Stone* Stone - a professor of law at the University of Chicago - submitted a statement to Congress yesterday. And - that statement was signed by over 50 America's most distinguished constitutional law professors and scholars. All are in agreement that - despite what many on the far-right say - Congress has more than enough authority under the Constitution to enact legislation aimed at reducing gun violence. If America's best and brightest constitutional scholars say it's legal to save American lives by creating sensible gun control measures - then it's time for Congress to act - regardless of what the NRA and gun nuts will try to say.

Geeky Science! Beetles Guided by Milky Way

For hundreds of years - navigators looked to the stars to determine their location - and to provide directions. And as it turns out - a variety of animals do the very same thing today. I'll tell you about one of them in tonight's Geeky Science.

Hazardous Fracking - Is it Time for Civil Disobedience?

Thomas Linzey, Esq., Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, joins Thom Hartmann. All across this nation - hazardous fracking operations are destroying once pristine lands - threatening the environment and local communities in the process. But some towns and communities are standing up to this environment-destroying corporate greed - and saying no even when the federal government says yes.

Is MI Gov lying about electoral rigging?

Rev. D. Alexander Bullock, Rainbow PUSH/Detroit, join Thom Hartmann. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says he has no plans to change the way his state awards Electoral College voters - and in turn help rig the 2016 election for Republicans. But - is Snyder telling the truth - or are plans to attack our democracy alive and well in the Great Lake State?

Sparks Fly! Thom Hartmann vs. Austin Petersen...Ending Billionaire-ism?

Austin Petersen, FreedomWorks, joins Thom Hartmann. Consider this: The Forbes 400 richest billionaires in America have a combined wealth of over $1.7 trillion. Now imagine we took some of that wealth - leaving each billionaire with just one billion dollars - and they're free to do whatever they'd like with it. What's it matter, they couldn't even spend a billion dollars in their lifetime. That would suddenly free up 1.3 trillion dollars of wealth to be spent and invested in the economy. With the average price of going to college at a state school pegged at roughly $22000 a year, that 1.3 trillion could send 59 million young people - an entire generation - to school. We'd have an entire generation of college graduates who'd have access to good paying jobs - who'd stimulate the economy - who'd pay taxes to lower our deficits - and who'd make American once again the most educated and nation with the most sophisticated workforce on the planet. Or - what about those 150 million Americans who don't have savings and are one setback away from poverty? Imagine if they all had an extra $8000 in their bank account. They wouldn't be so fearful of poverty - they could spend more money in the economy - and they could take more risks \\ Even the billionaires would earn more money now that they have more consumers spending more money at restaurants, at shopping malls, and on vacations. And what'd we sacrifice for this new prosperity for millions of Americans? We simply asked the ...

Also discussed: the latest on the GOP election rigging campaign, what communities are doing around the country to save their environment and Thom takes viewer phone calls in "Your Take, My Take Live." In tonight's "Daily Take" Thom details what a typical school day would be like in America if we listened to the NRA.

The Question No One is Asking about Keystone XL

Right now in Texas, a foreign corporation, TransCanada, is using our government's 5th Amendment right of eminent domain to confiscate private land belonging to Americans, to build a massive oil pipeline so TransCanada can ship oil from the Gulf of Mexico to non-Americans around the world. Oil, by the way, that will accelerate our planet's plunge into global warming-induced catastrophe. So the question is, "Why?"

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Potatoriously Ugly!

The Good! *Patrice Motsepe* Motsepe - a South African mining billionaire - announced earlier today that he will be giving half of his fortune - including future earnings - to charity. Worth around $2.7 billon - Motsepe said that he wanted to join the Giving Pledge - which encourages the world's wealthiest to give at least half of their wealth to charity. Speaking about his donation - Motsepe said that the money will be used to help the large portion of "poor and other disadvantage and marginalized South Africans." Over half of South Africans live below the poverty line. We can only hope that America's billionaires decide to stand alongside Mr. Motsepe - and donate some of their vast fortunes to help the entire nation and especially those Americans who struggle to survive each day.

Should government step in when Capitalism fails?

Neal Asbury, Truth for America, join Thom Hartmann. Earlier this week - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a bill that would have increased the state's minimum wage by $1.25. Why don't minimum wage workers in America have the right to make enough money to help them survive and support their families?

Lone Liberal - Will Republicans continue to pursue austerity?

Horace Cooper, Conservative commentator & Former Congressman Ernest Istook, Heritage Foundation, join Thom Hartmann.

Lone Liberal - Why do people still listen to the NRA?

Horace Cooper, Conservative commentator & Former Congressman Ernest Istook, Heritage Foundation, join Thom Hartmann.

Why is the NRA at the Senate hearing?

After today's display from Wayne LaPierre and the NRA - my question is this: Why was he even at the Senate hearing? This is an organization that disagrees with most of its members on common sense gun control - and is completely out of touch with what the American people believe needs to be done about gun violence in America. It's an organization that's been taken over by out-of-touch, radical gun industry shills, who lost nearly every election they invested in, back in 2012
