I don't believe Dick and the boys planned 911 but I do believe the saw it comming. This is just the massive event they needed to start the war they were all drooling over. Just what they needed to manipulate the public into allowing them to have their way with many things.
Alice, the Vietnam war was ten times worse in terms of American deaths but it didn't spawn an unholy host of Vietnamese terrorists. Revenge is an Islamic trait but Cheney, Bush et al are too greedy (I was going to say unintelligent, but maybe not) to care about all that.
Seems the scenario for the last twenty years since Gingrich became speaker has been much the same. Whether screaming about shutting the government down, trivializing the Presidency over Clinton having what Bill Maher describes as "prison sex" in the Oval Office - working our way through the failed intelligence of 9/11; the deliberate failing of intelligence of Iraq; the failed intelligence bath running the US economy into the ground - and yet they scape goat and blame the "liberals."
Where was Nancy Pelosi in 2006. The political party of FDR surrendered to political fundraising and millionaire lobbyists. No one held accountable on the reich's march to war, electronic spying, institutionalized torture, and the near collapse of the United States banking system.
where was Pelosi when Carl Rove refused to respond to a subpoena? Where would he be now if he was held in contempt? Probably not on fox.
like a rabid dog, it is not Cheney we should focus on - rather demand the attorney general and the few congress people who have a shred of decency do what it takes to demand accountability. You don't ask a thug why he did something - you put him jail so he doesnt do it again

P.S. If Cheney's comments are "hurting" Obama as "evj" suggests, it serves Obama right. This is the thanks Obama gets for letting war criminals skate free! And comparing Obama to Mandela is like comparing Britney to Odetta… or particle board to mahogany.
evj33 ~ Agreed! However, I'll see that and raise you three decades. We should have done that with Nixon. If Nixon was held accountable for that immoral and illegal "police action" in Vietnam no one in power would have ever have dared pull the same stunt in Iraq; or, anywhere else. When you don't nip these things in the bud they never go away--they just get worse. Now that this cabal is still walking around free as a bird and singing about it I can't even begin to imagine what future crime plans are laying on their table. What reason do they have to even hesitate? I guarantee they will not go gracefully in that good night. That notion is the opiate of the masses and the latest popular American 'pipe' dream.

Obama's rationale for not holding these war criminals accountable was so pitifully lame, I was embarrassed for him. "Looking forward, not backwards" or something along those lines. Pretty spineless, I'd say. But all you journalists and whistleblowers out there had better watch your backs! - AIW
I strongly feel that if instead of moving forward, if instead the country had stopped, thoroughly gone over all that occurred to involve us, the USA, in the Iraq war, had prosecuted & held people accountable for their misdeeds, errors, etc., including former President Bush, then Cheney would have been thoroughly put in his place, which might have included prison. Then he wouldn't now have the status to make the statements he's making. Those statements are in fact hurting President Obama. President Obama has made a major error in not clarifying the truth of what happened. I wish he had done what Nelson Mandela did, something of that order. You really cannot go forward without taking care of business first.
We all are in need of better healthcare facilities but unfortunately we cannot be on the same train! This is indeed sad part of the drama.

As anyone who has read or participated on this forum would know, I am NO Obama fan. But this is ridiculous. Dick Cheney claiming "Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many…" Talk about calling the kettle black (no pun intended!). Is there no limit to the hypocrisy of these neocon fascist war criminals?! Good god y'all. And isn't it laughable that Cheney would claim the world "needs" American "leadership"; a "dire" need, no less!
America's real enemies are Bush, Cheney, Rove, Wolfowitz (sp?), Rumsfeld and their ilk. They are evil incarnate. I'm so glad I kicked the TV habit, so I don't have to see these ugly fascists on their sleazy soapbox preaching about what they think Obama should be doing right now. Gimmie a break. And shame on the Wall Street Journal for giving the podium to Cheney! Like Marc says, he belongs in front of a firing squad for all his crimes against humanity.

Thom, the one thing in your introductory post I have issue with is your suggestion that the Iraq war could be the biggest disaster in American history. Bigger than Vietnam?! Let's not forget, Thom, we lost ten times more soldiers in Vietnam compared to Iraq, and killed millions of Vietnamese… for no reason! Just like we killed Iraqi civilians for no reason.
I dislike Obama with a passion, yet so many of the people who trash him are worse than he is. I don't even get to enjoy all the dissing! Kinda reminds me of that old Rolling Stones song: "Can't get no satisfaction!" - Aliceinwonderland
P.S. By the way "ckrob", your post is hardly off topic. I'm astonished to learn that even Glenn Beck has admitted how wrong we were, invading Iraq.
It should be changed but money and influence will prevail. I'm a lifelong KC Chiefs fan and would not disapprove of changing the name of the team.
It is common knowledge that Dick had the plans to invade Iraq in place during the re-election campaign of HW. When that didn't pan out he just put the plans in storage. Then W was appointed the first time and, EUREKA! Cheney couldn't get through the doors of the CIA fast enought to start manufacturing a reason to invade Iraq. Nice try Dick but you seem to thrive on thinking that we are all stupid and you and yours can just spew out your rhetoric with impunity, with all the little sheeple following along nodding their heads.
Going into Iraq in 2003 was be biggest foreign policy blunder the U.S. has ever made so stop trying to spin your mistakes onto the current administration.
The war and all the events that led up to this war will be revealed in time with intelligent curiosity and scientific evidence. There are so many credible intelligent patriots and veterans who question the events. This will just not go away.
I have so much worry for this country.
The President and vice President who got us into war, and who should be imprisoned for war crimes, not only roam free, but are honored.
The current President who has been trying to pull us out of the wars is mocked because of it, and even has the word impeachment thrown at him!

I am curious, does anyone else think as I do, that dicktator dick's bad back on 1-20-09 was a ploy to avoid attending President Obama's first inauguration ceremony? I think dicktator dick just could not tolerate seeing a black man become president, however, someone convinced him that he did indeed need to attend.

If Congress couldn't find the courage to act after Newtown, they never will, as long as they are living in fear of the NRA.
The only way to neuter the NRA is to amend the U.S. Constitution so that it clearly, and unquivocally, states that: 1) rights recognized under the Constitution belong to human beings, only (not to artificial legal entities such as Corporations, or, their lobbying organizations); and, 2) money is not speech.
The only proposed constitutional amendment that says those two things is Move to Amend's WE THE PEOPLE AMENDMENT, which you can read at https://movetoamend.org/wethepeopleamendment

I know several people who own guns and they are all very responsible with them. In California we have some of the most strict laws in the nation concerning buying guns. I too have ignorantly extrapolated that to include the rest of the nation. Only recently was it brought to my attention that in some states guns could be LEGALLY sold with no questions asked. Gun shows and online sales to anyone with cash had me shaking my head and doing a double take. WTF! I have to think that there are a lot of good responsible people out there who just don't have a clue as to how really bad and dangerous the situation is that is being perpetuated by the US gun lobby.
When people feel threatened, they will react instead of respond. Usually defensively instead of logically; and, fearfully instead of with common sense. I wouldn't get too wound up about it. We're just experiencing reactions that have been conditioned into people from powers far beyond their control that are playing their greatest fears. I'm fairly certain that they do not represent thoughtful responsible thoughts; and, are nothing a little calm education can't cure. For that, thank you for being such a wonderful teacher.
