  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

Stop putting words in my mouth, Global! I said nothing of the sort. And how about giving the Utopia crap a rest? If more of our elected officials adopted Ron Paul's idiotic economic strategies, we'd be living in Calcutta, USA where only the richest have roofs over their heads. - Aliceinwonderland

  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

Yes, and as you stated, you would give up everyone else's property rights and freedoms so you could be safe and secure. Utopia only exist in your wonderland. I think if more legislators adopted the Ron Paul economic philosophy this country would see a renaseance of economic prosperity and opportunities for all. Income taxes could be reduced for everyone, you would actually be able to keep more of your money and taxing the so called rich for revenge would not be necessary. And No Fraud, I meant to point out that the upper 10 percent of tax payers pay 70 percent of all the income taxes that the government collects, that is a very progressive tax burden. Go Rand Paul .....

  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

I concur, Ron Paul is great on issues pertaining to the military industrial complex and foreign policy. If he were as good on domestic & economic issues, he would have had my vote this election. BUT... Talk about economic illiteracy!! That guy takes the cake. -Aliceinwonderland

  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

For your information Mister G, most progressives couldn't care less about the rich, or about being or getting rich. We just don't think we should have to pay their taxes or make sacrifices in their behalf, is all. A nice comfortable, secure life, free from scarcity and worry, would sure be nice. An appropriate balance between work and everything else hardly seems too much to ask, for the majority of us who actually EARN our living. And how about a few weeks' vacation each year, like the Germans and Italians enjoy? Got a problem with that?! Without such basics in life, "freedom" is just an abstraction. - Aliceinwonderland

There is little we can do about it but write our reps. and the Pres. Not that it'll get anything done. They are owned by the Banks and Energy Co,s.

  • Hey GOP... In case you hadn't noticed, YOU LOST!!   12 years 26 weeks ago

For what its worth here resource rich Canada where the maximum tax rate is 48% we just raised our pension age from 65 to 67. Poeple are living longer and it simply costs more.

How does your system work there I heard that you haven't passed a budget there for four years. Here our govrnment would shut down and a election is called. It is amazing how fast they can figure it out if they all can lose the jobs.

  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

And let me remind you Mr Global...I am not a supporter of Obama; as I have made clear in several posts. I voted against both Romney and Obama...They are both evil war mongers and Corporate Opportunist whoes pockets are deep with corrup money from Wall St.
I do support Ron Paul's idea to dismantle our bloated Military Industrial Complex - as well as enforce States Rights - but that is it; after that he is no different than the rest of the Right Wing nut jobs.

The more disposable income one makes the more taxes they should pay. However you are not being honest when you say that the upper 10% pays 70% in income taxes.
I am in no way envious of how much money someone makes. I have a mixture of conservative, liberal, and progressive friends who make high 6 figures, as well as a few who are trust fund babies. None of them are paying 70% in income taxes; in fact several addmitted that they paid less than the average middle class worker. As well they too support a tax increase on the upper 2% and just as important a reform on what tax dollars are spent on, i.e. reduce deffence and military spending. More surprising two of my close friends are in the medical field and support Single Payer Healthcare simpley based of the idea of the common good for all.

What do you have against helping those that are less fortunate? Not everyone who receives aid from Government Assistance is a flunky or a welfare baby. In fact, during the last 6 years (back to the G.W.Bush era) most of the people receiving Food Stamps, Section 8 housing and medicare, had good paying job and begain loosing them and their homes before Obama took office.

start growing your own! buy a big freezer and buy beef//chicken//pork from a local farmer--i have started to do it. A little more elbow grease but when you feed your family or gr/kids you know its safe. Government entities wont protect you (EPA--FDA) BECAUSE THEY ARE CONTROLLED BY POLITICIANS THAT ARE BOUGHT AND PAYED FOR BY FOREIGN CORPORATIONS!

  • Is fracking responsible for killing off an alarming number of livestock around the nation?   12 years 26 weeks ago

All of these federal agencies that used to protect the America we love. in the last 20 yrs dont do anything but protect foreign corporations? (EPA--FDA--FBI--and on and on)

we pay over a trillion dollars on their salaries and all the ridiculous programs they want.

  • Will Walmart's decrease in health coverage fuel worker protests?   12 years 26 weeks ago

While yelling at their bought and paid for elected representatives to cut social welfare, these billion dollar corporations are relying heavily on the very programs they want cut for their own employees who rely on them because they're not paid a living wage. I worked for Walmart for awhile, mostly after I started collecting SS insurance benefit payments, so I didn't rely on the job for income or health insurance, but I saw first hand how every year one benefit after another was cut for employees while corporate profits soared. It should not take a genius to put two and two together and link fewer employee benefits and lower wages to increased profits for the corporations. They are simply externalizing their costs to the taxpayer.

Good point, still need to change the laws that govern them, in a word, govern them so they'll behave.

  • The race-baiting and hyper paranoid conspiracy theories continue...   12 years 26 weeks ago

An elderly European friend sent me the craziest, farthest out there, from-the-back-side-of-the-moon Replublican Conspiracy theory, in an email. I was surprised to see that it was actually posted on a website:

    http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/why-petraeus-was-sacrificed-as-muc...

Total and complete fiction, but a real barn-burner (C-130 gunships! October Surprise!) from the muslim manchurian candidate folder.

In the meantime, the reality of American presence in Africa, in places like the Congo, where millions have been killed, and hundreds of thousands or millions more raped or brutalized (but the coltan, tantalum, tin, tungsten and gold keep finding their way west, despite -- or because of? -- the civil disruption) is completely ignored.

Maybe that's why it shouldn't be such a shock to see the lunacy of some of these RW conspiracy theories. The actual reality "on the ground" (as they used to say in the 90's, when they still had cameras and news reporters in some of these far-away places) might actually be just about as bad.

If anyone has time (a strong stomach, and the fearlessness to maintain a little bit of compassion or empathy wouldn't hurt either), these links are worth a look:

" ...impress this upon your leaders there, in the West there. What they have done to us! After slavery, there was colonization. After colonization there was neo-colonialism instead of independence. We never had independence here—not yet. And now again, you impose Kabila on us with this democracy of complacency. So it’s neo-slavery. We continue to suffer. Go inform your leaders there: if they continue to place at the head of this country these idiots, these imbeciles, these political homosexuals, we’re going to create Al Qaeda à l’Africaine here. That’s what we’ll become.”

But Salvador Muhindo’s theme was impotence, and as he thought about what he just said, he backed away from it. In the next breath he said, “We are no longer going to coöperate with you..."

You may have forgotten No Fraud but I am a Ron Paul supporter which is about mirror opposite of your freedom destroying democratic socialist Obama drones. I don't know what tax myth you are listening to but who is flipping the bill is tax payers making over 112,000 per year are paying 70% of income taxes collected. That is the top 10%. Spending needs to be slashed way back on everything gradually. Jump start it with cutting militarism. And quit begging at the alter of big government which empowers your politicians with continued destructive fiscal policies. Wake up you fools. Get up, Put your boots on and feel the winds of life in your face instead of always whining about what the rich have and you don't.

  • President Obama fired the opening salvo on Thursday...   12 years 26 weeks ago

So what is your Neoconservative Republican party's grand plan...Continue giving tax breaks to those so called "job creators"? For more than 3 decades - since Regan's Voodoo economics - they have been given tax breaks and have not increased the number of jobs here in the U.S.
Bottom line Uber Rich People do not create jobs...Consumer's Demand for goods does. And who are the largest number of consumers???THE WORKING MIDDLE CLASS! Which just so happens to be the ones flipping the bill to make up for where the rich are given tax breaks while jack offs like Bush run up the credit card.
WAKE UP YOU FUNNY LITTLE MAN!

I guess it depends on to whom you talk. Ask the Kochs or the lawyer who setup the 401C3 called ALEC if ALEC is an education charity. Only if you use poetic license instead of sound reason, in my opinion. Personally, if the 99% had a charity fund I think it could set up a New Years Party where some of that fracking food could be served. The Guests? Mr.(s) Rove, Norquist, Koch, and Koch. I wonder if they'd eat it as a steady diet? But, the EPA doesn't allow such testing on "people"; maybe invite ALEC; then again, the Supremes have said that word "people"!

I was aghast after watching the HBO documentary "Gasland"...where they showed people actually setting their tap water on fire with matches.

Thanks for the heads up on the new Matt Damon movie "Promised Land". It is supposed to open in theaters on Dec. 28, 2012 but other sources say the release date will be Jan 4, 2013. But it looks like the gas industries are already trying to stop the movie from opening...or at least trying to do a big PR job against the movie even before it starts. They may be handing out Pro-Fracking pamphlets or leaflets to theater goers on opening day. They also have a so-called "truth-squad" (propaganda campaign) on social media...Twitter and Facebook to convince people that they shouldn't watch the movie or, at least, get you to believe that the movie is an untruth. If you meet these people handing out leaflets...just tell them to shove their fracking leaflets up their nose. But remember, usually these people are just lowly paid temporary employees paid at minimum compensation. Maybe..just pity them and move on to the movie.

I pay the difference not because I can afford it, but because I do not trust the supermarkets and their growers! I only eat chicken so it is less costly to buy organically fed...I should go straight vegetarian, but I cannot break from BBQ chicken! The weather lets us BBQ 95% of the time…love California weather!

Yes there are many bi-products of oil and they do make life easier. But that does not mean we should trust the Corporations with our wellbeing and believe they actually care about the environment and mankind in general. Their bottom line is profit, period. And they have shown they cannot be trusted with the environment and the wellbeing of mankind. Americans have had to give up property rights to the oil companies through eminent domain laws and that sucks. It does not make me feel any better that they are American oil companies involved in Canada, they cannot be trusted either. We have seem how multi-national companies like Shell and Chevron have shown very little concern with the environment where they could bribe the government officials. Africa is a good example of the ruthlessness of these big oil firms. Here in California we have continually turned down the oil companies request to drill off the coast because they have proven in the past not to be good Stuarts of the environment. The oil line from Canada through the U.S. does nothing to enhance the standard of living in America, especially since the oil is not for U.S. consumption. The difference in our views is simple, you’re a conservative and I am a liberal socialist and historically we just see things differently on almost every subject.

You keep spouting the same right wing agenda rehtoric.
Three times I have explained to you how we could afford a Single Payer Healthcare System...Cut Military and Deffence spending in half, Close down 1/3 of our bases, and stop sending billions of dollars to Israel and other foreign countries every year. For christ sakes we proped up that tyrant Mubarek in Egypt for 40 years.
Come on....Why can't you grasp this? We don't need to raise taxes as much as we just need to redirect how we use them.

i have a couple huge problims with this poll

    A) there is no "NO"

    B) stop talking about corparations as if there people "walmart" did not cut health coverage walmart is a company nothing more then a simple peice of paper thats it nothing more it is the CEO's that do this

for someone who always says corparations are not people and you want to push back on this idea so hard you like saying that walmart and other companies do things. everytime you say walmart did something your just humanizing them and it may not be in a good way but its still humanizing so please push back against this idea that a corparation can do harm it cant the people that running it are its time to start DEhumanizing those monsters

just like guns dont kill people people kill people same with companies

One of the things I noticed in that study says that some other testing results has been buried and inaccessible through non-disclosure agreements that the Fracking companies get land owners to sign (probably either before the land owners realize the health hazards upon initially agreeing to the drilling...or later when the companies buy them off with promises of buying their land or other carrots). Another way of hiding the testing results has been experienced through a complicit (with the fracking companies) government putting up barriers to a full FOIA disclosure.

Ever notice how often you are given an agreement to sign (eg: before seeing a doctor..or just about any other business deal) that says, effectively, that you agree to give up your right to sue in a court of law, and that you must agree to an alternative dispute resolution/mediation? And the mediator is selected by the other guy..the business? How fair do you think that mediator will be when the business does the selecting? The cards are stacked against us from the beginning in just about everything. So what are we going to do when we need a doctor (or whatever)? Refuse to sign? They'll refuse service. And they all require you to agree to it so we have no other recourse but to sign or do without...at their mercy.
