I have been worried ever since last nights debate. This may sound "conspiracy theory" -ish, but I recall the "I have been to the mountaintop" speech of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. just before he was assasinated by the racist powers that be. I have heard that Dr. King had gotten word PRIOR to his death that there would be an attempt on his life. I am terrified that our great president may have gotten some similar word yesterday prior to the debate. I also heard Thom mention that Journalist Bob Woodward suspects some major world event, (another 9/11?), is brewing that the President is concerned with. Whatever it is, Pres. Obama was NOT himself last night, he looked pale, concerned, pre-occupied and if you noticed he stood on ONE foot behind the podium, body language that says "exhaustion". I am terrified that we are going to lose our greatest President since FDR to the lowest, yet richest, form of scum this planet can produce.
What part of the unemployment rate is unacceptable, we have 23 million people unemployed, underemployed or stop looking for work Is a lie? What part of we have 47 million people on food stamps is a lie? What part of the middle class is getting crushed by this Obama economy is a lie? focus on reality for a change and change leadership. Also, how can Thom possibly bring up racism in the Romney quote about his five boys. That is showing my point again that the liberals make up racism when they have nothing else. It really is totally absurd.
What made me sick was when Romney spouted off about how he thought our national debt was "immoral". His whole business model at Bain was based on leveraging failing companies with debt so he could later "harvest" (bilk) them for every last dime he could line his pockets with. He needs to be called on that. You can bet that if he's president, he will do the same thing to Medicaid and Medicare. He's as immoral as they come.
Was Romney high on something? His mind was overstimulated, speeded up, and aggressive. He couldn't wait his turn to talk. He was illogical in his reasoning, and the things he said were not true, and didn't make sense. It looked to me like he was high on something like amphetamine? That's the stuff the military gives soldiers to keep them going on the battlefield in Iraq and Afganistan. "Kill baby Kill", that's the drug! Just look at that smile on his face! Something wasn't right. He wasn't his normal self! I think we should require him to take a drug test. He is running for public office. Why not? I think we should demand drug testing for him! I'll bet he was stoned!
I'm relieved to hear Thom's argument that you can't win a debate by lying; I hope progressive pundits pick up on that truth and turn it into a meme. It's like hitting a fly ball to center field that gets caught but scoring it as a home run. I wish President Obama was more forceful, but maybe he and the team had a plan to use what Romney says in the debate against him in the following days. After all, the best weapon against Romney thus far has been Romney himself. Now the Obama campaign has twenty-seven new lies it can use against him. If I was a Republicon, I would be confused by Romney. Romney's "boys" comment may have had an effect on the President, but he certainly didn't show it. And thanks to Thom for pointing that out. If you want to score one for the lying bully who doesn't play by the rules, Romney won.
And what was the black dot on his flag pin? Someone tweeted that it was his robot reset button. Killing Big Bird didn't seem like the shrewdest thing to say, and threatening to fire the moderator during the debate...wow, what a jerk!

What struck me the most about Mr. Romney in the debate was that he felt that the American people do not *deserve* to know the details of his plans. It seems certain that selected supporters behind closed doors have asked for and received specifics of what Mr. Romney will do. This stonewalling of the American people is equivalent to coming into a company as a Bain officer and telling the employees that everything will be fine, while all the time knowing exactly what you intend to do in order to strip the remaining asset value from those employees and enrich the vulture capitalists.

It won't cost him the election but it WAS bad..WILL cost him some votes....and frankly was bizarre. Something was truly amiss with Obama Wednesday night. It was very strange.
@mserhuie: Agreed. But Obama's paucity of pasion regarding his record didn't help either. Not once did President Obama mention, Bain Capital's closure of Sensata Technologies relocating plant to China. Its a clear assault on living wage employment for American workers which provide middle class life style.
I listened to the debate on DemocracyNow.org. Amy Goodman had Jill Stein -Green Party Candidate and Rocky Anderson -Justice Party Candidate answering same questions as Obama and Romney. Stein and Anderson's replies were markedly different and better for domestic policy. The Presidential debates should not exclude Third Party Candidates.
I listened to the debate on the radio. I felt Romney was more forceful but he did not win! He lied. How can he be for the middle class and small business when his whole business career was to dismantle american companies and send the work overseas. Or just spend them into bankruptcy.

The only thing I can figure.... is the Republican/Teabags want and gladlly except racists into their party!
Everything Romney says is fueled by a total lack of self control in his relentless quest for endless amounts of money and power. Large numbers of real people are really suffering thanks to his disorder and the lack of a type of governance that can contain it.

I thought Obama's speech was right on. I'm confused that the Republicans thought this would hurt him. I thought it helped him. It was a race issue and he said so. Good for him.

Tonight......Romney: "Look I've been in business for 25 years. I have no idea what your talking about. The idea that you get a break for shipping jobs overseas is simply not the case."
7/12 Harry Reid: "It's fairly easy to see why Republicans are blocking our bill to stop outsourcing, they're obviously defending their Presidential nominee, who of course made a fortune by shipping jobs overseas."
The NBC post debate fact check made no mention of this comment as they fell head over heels for Romney's energized manner? It's all about money.....truth be damned and so is what little is left of our Democracy. Hey, Guys like Gregory are making a good buck.....the god almighty dollar counts more to some than truth, honor, and good moral values.
The banking laws that are being violated with Civil Suites only become part of doing business. The Banksters write off these suites as part of their "bottom line". We need real enforcement with Criminal Suites and putting the violators in jail. Just like the Voter Suppression being enacted in so many States by the Republicans, the Caging Laws being violated by the Republicans will only be stopped by Criminal Prosecution.

I am all for a third party system, maybe Ron Paul started that movement for the next election. Obama and his favorite economist - Krugman don't have a clue on how to get this economy off its back. Four more years of these idiots and we will all be equal in or misery. But maybe everybody will have crappy health care and free birth control. Maybe that is part of their grand plan for utopia and population control. Do you sometimes feel that you are being manipulated like a bunch of rats in a maze? By the way Obama forgot to show up for the debate.
Well, if the average american has to pay 35% of thier gross income and a very select few pay half that they are not paing thier fair share. We as a country are taxed a percentage rate for income that is earned and then a seperate rate for investments whose returns are generally funded on the backs of people who actually work and then pay a larger percentage of thier income to taxes. What about this sounds fairt for all involved?

Wow, I didn't realize Fox was into Bush bashing. I'm pretty sure that Bush and his so called administrators don't particularly care to hear those FACTS related to funds for rebuilding repeated over and over again.
I would call Obama's speech a declaration of war against the unequal treatment of fellow citizens during their time of need....... the kind of need anyone, rich or poor, black or white, could face in a time of natural disaster.
Fox can do worse ...... to have FACTS included in reporting........ is not exactly their forte!

I am voting for the Green Party candidate. But, if I actually thought Rummy Romney had a chance in hell of getting the California vote I would without a doubt vote for Obama. You racists slime balls on the right really must be scared your so called candidate, the same guy the other candidates truly hated during the GOP debates, that fox news (I use lower case out of disrespect) is trying everything they can to try to turn voters away from Obama. You have a short memory if you cannot remember how the Bush administration did nothing to help the black community during the Katrina tragedy! And because a half black and half white president brings up that real point, all of a sudden he is king racists of the minorities of America. YOU’RE pathetic! Your guy Bush could have stopped 9/11 from happening, but he did nothing like usual, so he could justify invading Iraq. The one president who has done the most harm to our country and you want a copy of this jerk for president. Go back in your corner and make up some more excuses why Romney has done such a poor job (you will be able to post them tomorrow) in the debates tonight. Yesterday he was quoted making up an excuse of how the debates really did not represent that much, at least he has enough common sense to realize he just is not up to the same standard as Obama when it comes to stating the truth and facts. Again you and #3 sound like a couple of typical right wing racists with the same old message from the right wing of the isle. And I am not even voting for Obama and your rhetoric is sickening! Obama represents the least of two evils, your man Romney being the very worse or the more evil of the two choices. Maybe you and your friend #3 should see about relocating to Mexico with Romney after Obama retains the White House!! But I bet you will just stick around and enjoy the good life here in America while continuing to try to disrupt the Congress like all the other Republicans in Washington have been doing for four years and blame it on the President, your right OUR PRESIDENT !!!! OBAMA 2012 and beyond. You on the right will have something to drink about after the debate, so you can try to forget what just happened to Rummy Romney.....
The only good "news" is that there are an increasing few rational national voices calling them on it.
The bad news is that the clueless Leftish politicos (when in power) have done little to re-balance the deregulated corporate ownership of so many of our monopoly media sources. It's that failure in "strategic planning" (or sell-out) that leaves us 49:51 at the polls.
Were it not for the gross ineptness, blatently fabricated misreprentations and general nastiness of The Right, increasingly obvious to anyone not totally brainwashed; we'd be in an even worse quagmire.
Keep it up guys, we desperately need both sides in this debate.

Think about it. back in the day the nightly news would come on and my ol man would crack his Pabst and we'd watch both sides of the story!!!! all in one news broadcast. sad how un ethical it has all become.
