I am having troubles watching Thom live online. I have contacted the webmaster about this. I am in St. Louis and used to watch the radio show from Thom's website. For a while now the link for the tv show works, but not the link for the radio show - it is just a black box. I have tried on three different computers with three different internet providers and they are all the same. So I have been watching on Ustream. But today on Ustream, while Thom's show is on, a message keeps playing, "A Ustream producer" and with lettering over the picture. Very distracting. Are you sure no one is messing with the broadcast?
A caller on Friday talked about "voting with your pockebook," and your answer was correct, but I'd suggest a concise comment that can be generalized to many things: "You can't vote with your wallet if it's empty." One corollary would allow a lesson on political spending - you get to vote until you run out of money. "One Dollar; One Vote" and you don't need a voter ID.
Obama's job plan? Really. I assume this is not to be confused with his last shovel ready jobs program. You remember, the one that cost 775 billion dollars. The one where even though Obama held a supermajority in both houses and close to a trillion dollars he still was unable to produce anything even resembling a jobs program. We had zero job growth in august, something that has not been seen since 1945. He was told to lower the deficit, instead he increased it thus causing America to lose it's credit rating. He bans off shore drilling in the gulf, (even though he has been court ordered to lift the moratorium) while he gives billions to Brazil to develop their off shore drilling program. This cost tens of thousands their jobs. He has closed 8% of the coal manufacturers (even though 48% of this nations energy comes from coal), again costing tens of thousands their jobs and energy prices to increase. He just cost 500,000 automakers (non union of course) their jobs. I could give you 20 more examples, but why bother.
The reality is, it is difficult to create jobs while you are destroying the nation. This idiot poisons the water hole (remember his, "we won, time for you to move to the back of the bus comments), shoves his unpopular ideology down the throats of the American people, kills jobs with his Obamanomics, doubles the national deficit, and borrows 775 billion (putting unborn children in debt in debt) in stimulus money that has zero effect on the nation. All this while travels the world living his Jet set life style (leaving the biggest carbon footprint any prior president has left) while he touts "green jobs". His idiot wife has spent 10 million dollars of tax payer money on vacations while American families are their losing jobs and homes. Yet he expects everyone to reschedule their events to listen to him read more lies from the teleprompter. This countries outlook will NEVER improve while this fool is in office.
GIVE ME A MIRACLE . . . I EXPECT THE PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY TO BE GOD OMNIPOTENT ! ! !
KISS yourselves in the arse . . . Damnit how myopic can you folks get. The mid-term elections blindsided any possibility of statesmanship that could negotiate a sensible balance within our congressional houses.
Don't know about any of you but I want my president and congressmen/women to be statesmen, negotiators, and diplomats that will uphold compassionate representation to the whole versus only to their constituents.
It is obvious to me that the talking head had no idea what a business is about! LOL cost of regulations. I have run started and run 3 business and its all about CUSTOMERS.
We The majority of The People who voted Obama into office, need to treat him the same way the people who want him out of office in 2013 treat him, since they are the only ones getting his attention.
There isn't anything I want to watch about Obama anymore. He's done as far as I'm concerned. And who the next president of The USA will be, is the (d)emocrat's "Leadership" failure, not mine.
Obama needs to stand up against the Republicans or step down and let another candidate step up. We Democrats have gone 8 years under Bush and 2 years under Obama without progressive representation. We don’t want or need another 6 years of coddling and cowering down to the republicans and the likes of the Koch brothers. I respect President Obama but if he can’t do the job please step down.
We cannot build our way out of this problem, it is not going to happen, until we first stop the Jobs from leaving this country. Usually I do not put on the net what I am doing because, as an activist I have been targeted for arrest for protesting, I just show up and everyone knows whom I am that I have worked with in the past.
This is the key. This is what we are working on right now this morning.
The media, and the corrupt politicians want you to focus on Jobs while the Chamber of Commerce and their Corporate lobbyists are pushing hard for a business-as-usual pact that some are already calling "NAFTA of the Pacific. While we wait for the president to speak on Thursday to distract us this is going on right now without real media coverage.
We expected the President to Come to Chicago Today but because of our protest he is being diverted to Detroit.
We expect 100,000 or more out here by 10am. This is for the future of American otherwise our kids will be building those bridges for 5.00 dollars an hour with foreign material.
I have worked in construction and spent a great part of my life in manufacturing, the two do not complement each other when we have countries ill legally dumping all over the world market.
We want to hear from the President which direction he plan to take this country, we are not going to be bought off with a temporary jobs bill that will be over after the election,

I think you are absolutely right, the republican job-creation plan will just concentrate more wealth into the pockets of the riches Americans. I also owned many small businesses and even during the 90s spent little on regulation even in the medical industry, one of the most highly regulated industry.
Tom, would you please do me a favor, whenever you have these smug and pompis asses Daniel Halper and Jamie Weinstein on your show next and they are throwing out all their B.S.. Ask them where they went to school and how they paid for it, and where did their education money come from? From dear old Mom and Dad or from the terrible U.S. GOV'T and it's grants and student loans? Than being a veteran ask them if either one of them ever served his country, The United States of America and spent time defending this great land, and if they didn't, than why not? don't they think that they have a responsibility or duty to put their lives on the line , like all these kids who haven't grown up with a gold spoon in their mouths, in order to keep all of us including them - safer. They are both just like Cheney and Bush " cowards" and only looking after the well to do, and not your everyday real American who just wants to go to work and have a family and a home to call his own pay his bills and maybe once in a while go out and do something fun, these are the real people who go out and work their asses off everyday just to survive and stay one step ahead of the grim reaper. All I can say is that with the likes of theses two idiots in charge this country is in deep deep S_ _T. Thanks Tom you do a GREAT job keep it up maybe more Americans will wake up sooner than later , we can only hope ! Jack Hogan
Next Saturday, Sept 10th Republican Cliff Stearns will have 4 town halls across the district. Florida's 6th. Since I am in his district, and contact his office often I plan on attending. Have been working on my question regarding his support (in a letter to me) of the Ryan Budget Plan as well as highlighting why it's a bad plan. Probably will not have much time to get the info in so working and wittling it down for all in attendance to understand it. If I cannot get the question in at the 1st one, I'll go to all of them until I do. If I am given any issues, hassled, harassed etc by his private security or others - it's all going to be recorded by a friend . Who, ironically enough has grown up believing himself to be a conservative/Republican but he smells the foul air too.
Boycott? After his last behavior it's a wonder he wasn't banned. I agree with the previous writer. Perhaps he's not sure he can behave himself and this grandstanding "boycott" is really his way to avoid acting on another embarrassing impulse.
Support the private sector taking into consideration the dynamic of greed and reduce jobs in the public sector to compenstae for the lag of economic growth and what do you wind up with.
Critical mass.

Public decent.
We are not there yet perhaps and we continue to head in that direction.
I think of it this way. How far would a member of the board get if he disrespected the CEO of the corporation he worked for? The government is OUR corporation and the President is our CEO. The board was also voted in by us. Although you want to see disagreements, so you can get the best ideas and go forward, RESPECT is mandatory. What are we becoming? Joe Walsh needs to grin and be respectful, as when he is not, he is not just disrespecting the President, he is disrespecting us. What's he going to do next?...hold his breath?
'Last, we are all Americans and we ought to be working together to solve the very real problems and inequities that exist in our society, rather than taking the simple approach of using labels and blaming "others" for problems that affect all of us."
If your last sentence is correct why does tom blame Bush for everything He cannot get through a segment of his show without bringing Bush's name into play. His entire show is a giant, continual rant .
Honestly what politician isn't guilty of treason. If it's treason for them to look after themselves rather than the good of the nation, they're all guilty.
Give him a chance. What he says makes sense. I'm not against anyone making a profit. In fact, I know what there motives are. Those who show an altruistic concern worry me. What have we have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
"Tripoli, Libya - Documents found at the abandoned office of Libya’s former spymaster appear to provide new details of the close relations the Central Intelligence Agency shared with the Libyan intelligence service — most notably suggesting that the Americans sent terrorism suspects at least eight times for questioning in Libya despite that country’s reputation for torture."
Our politicians are so blatantly hypocritical it makes me want to puke! Those sleeze bags that wear the America Flag wrapped around them are scoundrels, liars, and hypocrites.
I just watched The Pat Tillman Story movie....and man...those lying military and political scourges to humanity are really sickening. Pat Tillman was murdered...assassinated...and I believe it was because he was very well known and popular along with his views...that was a thorn in the side of the predominant military and religious establishment and could very well have made trouble for them....he was knocked off and that it was done with the knowledge and encouragement from higher ups. I mean, the same ruthless cutthroats who masterminded 911 and then send thousands to their deaths in uniform would not hesitate in murdering one more that might be a problem for them.
Most people who join the military don't get a special recognition signed by Cheney...but Tillman did...and then Cheney turned right around and warned the military higher ups to "watch him" as in he could be a dangerous loose cannon against their cause.
Tillman wasn't religious and read Chomsky and made it known that he was very upset at what the US was doing in Iraq. He may very well have had an idea of running as a politician in the future and that would have been dangerous for the Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld gang. I think it was more than just a matter of being fragged by some guys who didn't like him...I think he was targeted for assassination...set up. It certainly wasn't just an accident!
That, of course, is just my opinion.
Aside from the previous remarks trying to blame the consumer for buying the cheapest....the news media (CNN, I believe) were making a big thing about college educations...that people really need to get more education and get those degrees because they make more money over their lifespans and are (their figures show) less affected by the current job losses. So, again, we have a psy-ops news media trying to make "the people" feel like they are at fault for their not having a job.
Businesses invests a lot in the psychology of advertizing in order to get people to buy their products. They will do anything to get their money..and when they do..when the economy has been corrupted by reckless Wall Street gamblers and hucksters...they blame the people for not saving...nay, investing...their money. Wall street wants every penny you earn. The people get blamed for falling suckers to the corrupt system by the very corrupters who suckered them. So, feel bad, people, feel very bad and guilty that it's all your fault....so you will have reservations about rioting in the streets against your oppressors. Stop buying all of those needless things like the latest fancy cell phones that are rigged to track you and monitor everything you say and do.
By the way, I am all for bringing jobs back to America and if Harry Moser is actually working for that purpose, then I applaud him. But have you checked into his background? Working for a huge international Swiss conglomeration of companies (Georg Fischer) makes me wonder how sincere or honest he is about bringing jobs to America. What else is on his agenda? Just saying....Here's yet another corporate big-wig who got his shiboleth sheepskin from "The Chicago School".
2950-10K: I agree that we really don't want any of those right wing crazies in the Presidency. But, yes, what really is the alternative? Obama?... who has proven himself to be one of them...masquerading in the facade of a Democrat? What choice do we have?? We have the choice of either voting for neither Republican or Democrat and voting for someone different this time.
I'm not sure Gore would have been much different than Obama anyway. These people lie and tell us what we want to hear and they only sell us out when they are elected. I admit I was one of those who wanted to vote for Nader but thought that it would just be throwing my vote away and increasing the chance of a Republican winner. And even if the third party candidate wins he/she may very well be bought off as well...but at least it would shatter the corrupt two-party system.."we have no other choice" mentality and the Democrats might actually have to realize that we do have another choice....so they'd better work for the people for a change and not the ruling elite...banksters, corporations, Wall Street. To the Republican politicians...a Republican in the White House is Plan A...to the ruling elite, a Republican in the White House is Plan A but re-electing Obama is Plan B...unless the people are so ticked off and willing to demonstrate they are not going to take it anymore...then re-electing Obama is Plan A. They win no matter what!
But now I regret throwing my vote away for yet another loser who would most likely have done the exact same thing as Obama has done. Back then we did not have such a wrecked economy as we do now. We didn't have a massive illegal war running on for nearly 10 years that is a huge waste of money and lives. We didn't have to think about the torture chambers that the US kept illegally imprisoning and torturing people. We didn't worry about the special renditions of American citizens, and their being tortured or murdered by our fascist regime that Obama inherited this, to be sure, but despite his campaign rhetoric, continued unabated.
We are at a point where something really drastic has to happen and if we continue to play their game of "either Republican or Democrat" mentality we will continue to be screwed one way or another by the same ruling elite that dangles both Republican and Democrat politicians on their puppet strings. So, if a third party candidate wins...it shakes up the system...tells the Democrats that they don't have an instrument of blackmail that they can rely on...that if they keep making us believe that we have no other choice...that big money will continue to rule us.
We need to vote against the current system that believes it can keep winning (putting either a Republican or a useful idiot Democrat into the seat of power). If a right wing crazy gets into the Presidency (similar to GWBush...or worse) then the stupid American voters who are too dumb to see through the highly paid for psy-ops fed to the people by the corporate owned right-wing news media deserve what they get.
I suppose I would have to say that you were smart enough to vote for Nader...I was one of the stupid American voters who fell for the propaganda that we have no other choice. I am willing to admit my mistake now. If more people would have voted their true beliefs, like you did, then perhaps Nader would have won and we would possibly have a much different history now. I would bet that 911 sure wouldn't have happened nor would our economy and our ever worsening environment be deteriorated as badly as it has been under negligent right-wing pro-business actions.
Ok, so if one of those crazies get into office...I suspect that law abiding citizens would see the corruption of our laws as sinister enemies and take to the streets. Yes, maybe the right wing crazies would have to engineer another 911 to whip the people into submission..it worked last time.
I suspect that if Obama is re-elected, more people will soon realize that nothing will change and will also take to the streets. Yes, I think Obama might continue to be offsetting that possibility by continuing to peddle his false hope which is part of the tool that the ruling elite is using to keep us all from attacking them in the streets. But maybe we would all be better off in the inevitable occurring sooner than later when we are all too weak to defend ourselves.
It's all part of the ruse: the Republicans would love to have their Republican President but they realize that there are so many discontent both outside and inside their party...so they are left with running absolute bonkers and certifiably nuts candidates....so this scares Democrats so badly that they will re-elect Obama...the cushion that buys yet more time...knowing full well that they can continue to use Obama to beguile the people for yet a little more time...until the people who might have rebelled are too confused, disillusioned, and weakened to do much to defend themselves anymore.
Ursel Twing: Your research is impeccable, but I believe your conclusions are wrong, and that you have simply picked one small issue in an ocean of issues.
First, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner have said that the destruction of the Obama presidency was their primary goal. If the Republican party's primary goal is destroying a President, along with a great many innocent Americans, rather than helping the country out of the mess they themselves have created, then that is a betrayal of their oaths of office and quite possibly treason, since we are in a state of war. Abraham Lincoln suspended "Habeus Corpus" during the civil war and President Woodrow Wilson also threw dissenters in prison during World War I. Obama's mistake is that he has not publicly held these men accountable for their anti-American activities and rhetoric.
Secondly, you have a bone to pick with the unions and the "left" and you blame Obama, rather than Bush et. al., for the current financial disaster. That is just not correct. Obama has been weak and ineffective, but this country's financial problems are a direct result of the trillions of dollars spent on warfare, not healthcare.
Last, we are all Americans and we ought to be working together to solve the very real problems and inequities that exist in our society, rather than taking the simple approach of using labels and blaming "others" for problems that affect all of us.
Why are you so defensive? I'm not challenging you, but I don't understand what you're anecdotal stories have to do with my post about The Reshoring Initiative. You can whine about all sorts of obstacles in place, (I'm not denying they exist) or you can offer solutions. That is what the Reshoring Initiative is about, finding solutions. You cited an example about water based finishes in CA. If it has become a problem, work to have it changed. Don't depend on others (especially politicans). Get busy, go to work, and in the words of Larry the Cable Guy, "Getter' Done"
I thought that the fact that both China and India have over a billion people each was relatively well known. The 69% increase in wages from 2005 to 2009, was in an Economist Magazine article, which was primarily focused on the declining importance of labor arbitrage. I don't believe I saved it.
Now the largest automobile market has been in the newspapers several times, when it was announced that Ford and GMC were both building assembly plants there. I belive Ford is building two.
The fact that CA has banned all but water based finishes is well known in CA. You simply cannot buy it any more. The fact that some manufacturers were returning I know from conversations with owners on the shop floor in LA, and if you want to know the exact names, you can go through the lists of hundreds that have left and are leaving.
Carl's Jr, is another story from the local papers. Didn't save them. The CEO in the story suggested, that CA was so business unfriendly, that they were thinking of moving their headquartes out of the state.
What is interesting, is no one ever challenges the assertions and hyperbole of other participants. Infact, you didn't challenge me with a single fact.

Come on wmstoll, your examples are anecdotal. Give me some real cruchable numbers, and cite the reference please. Thanks.
I would like to add, that most people on this site simply show envy for the more successful. Is that helpful?
