I think the real problem is everyone's attitude. One Team against the other Team mentality....

It ( our Republic ) is not a game designed for one winner only....when the population is pitted one party against the other party moving toward a winner take all end game....we all end up sacrificing for the wrong reason.

Our System of government and commerce is designed so as many of our citizens can "Win" as possible....What the focus should be on is how we go about it....we're ALL in this together....make our children study and get "above average" grades and teach them respect for peers and adults and authority----then focus them on being part of the solution not the problem. They need our guidance....We've been teaching them the wrong....which is to say we're not teaching them at all.

We need wealthy people ( companies are groups of people ) to hire and grow and provide jobs for ( College grads,High school summer jobs for kids, etc). There's nothing wrong with having wealthy people in any society. The super rich ( Bill Gates ) have foundations that helps thousands of people lead better lives.....How many of us donate time or money to help those in need....It's a great question to ask of all of us...

Of the 54,000 jobs that were created last month 1 /2 was hired by McDonalds. Just think if that wealthy group ( corporation ) wasn't around....

"White House Adds New Position to Deal with Unfavorable Online Media"
Obama just created a new position to clamp down on what people say on-line about his administration.

So watch what you say about him, or his administration, or you might just get "terminated". Seig Heil!

This is part five of five sections.

G.K. Chesterton argues politics. In a democracy people should govern themselves. Corporations and the rich are governing us. Common sense is better than a corrupt government. Government and commerce are ugly necessities. They control the people and the people do not control them. CAPITALISM IS NOT A FRIEND OF DEMOCRACY. Democracy MUST serve both God and man. Both capitalism and communism are too materialistic. We cannot give everything to the government and commerce. Rich men would rather starve the people.

Industrialism is an indirect system. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Enemies of democracy are the enemies of families. For democracy to work the best interests of the family must be considered. (Single payer health care reform plans is democracy and it serves the families.) Self-denial is important in the world. We cannot rely on other people. We should do something for love.

Mob rule is democracy in its purest sense. Government and democracy isolate people from each other. We have cut off ourselves from each other.

Property and money need to be distributed to the people. We need more skill trades. Society declines when there is a great difference in salaries between the rich and the poor. (Our minimum wage law has not kept pace with the cost of living. If our minimum wage law had kept pace with the cost of living since it was enacted, the minimum wage would be at nineteen dollars per hour.) For democracy to work we need to be concerned about justice.

This is part two of five sections.

When a man stops believing in God, he loses his common sense. Faith will help us recover our common sense. We are not guaranteed whether or not we will win battles. We still must fight for what is right and just. Humility is very important in life. Being a moral human being is hard work. Religion gives us meaning and purpose. We have a responsibility to pass along truth. Democracy and common sense must go together.

What is wrong with the world? CHRISTIAN IDEAL IS NOT IN PRACTICE!

Democracy requires people to think for themselves. Enjoy yourself! Give money to the poor! Preach against pride! Conflicts begin when a person feels superior to another person. Man must have a vision. What kind of picture will you paint? We must choose our light!

Wealthy people do not worry about ordinary people. To worry about someone or something you need to be interested in someone or something. Wealthy people are not interested in ordinary people.

Injustice must be resolved before we have true democracy. Family and religion matter! Wage salary deters democracy. The servile state destroys the family and democracy. The sharing of property is the positive form of democracy. Skills have decreased and services have increased. The family is paramount over the factory and wages. (With the loss of manufacturing jobs we are also losing our skilled trade workers and our middle class.)

CONSERVATIVES PREVENT CORRECTING MISTAKES! PROGRESSIVES KEEP MAKING MISTAKES! CAPITALISM AND BIG GOVERNMENT ARE THE SAME!

This is part three of five sections.

Government and commerce should not grow too large because the people will not control government and commerce. They will control us. You cannot have a moral government from an immoral government.

Industrialism is too crooked and complex. The voice of God is important in a democracy. Enemies of the family are the enemies of democracy. For democracy to work we must value the family. (Do you sense that there are politicians and corporations who care very little about families in our country?) Democracy is from the bottom up and not top down. Freedom is independence. Self-denial is the test of self-government. Self-government is thinking for your self. We must do things for ourselves. Big business and big government are bad for democracy. When you lose a common heritage, you lose common sense. We live by the wage. Wage slavery is still slavery. The servile state is inconsistent with democracy.

Property is a form of democracy. Distributiveness is necessary for democracy. Human happiness should be our end in a democracy. A small salary is eternal slavery. (Today, we are seeing eternal slavery in the USA with small salaries and the loss of the middle class.) Democracy is difficult. Democracy must be concerned with justice. For a democracy to work we must love God and we must love our neighbor.

This is part four of five sections.

People are divided up into two groups. Capitalists and socialists are alike. Puritans and pagans are alike. Both lack the balance in common sense. Christmas and Easter changed paganism forever. Modern pagans worship something but God. God is not worshipped. Paganism leads to nowhere. Without God we are doomed. Puritanism was a mistake. They looked at the physical world as evil. Puritanism is revival of righteousness. Their Christianity was narrow. They worship by thinking. Christianity worships by dancing and drinking. Modern Puritans worship health and fitness. Modern Puritans are intolerant. Their morals are upside down.

Chesterton defends wine and beer. You drink because you are happy and because you are depressed. Puritanism and paganism miss the point of pleasure and incarnation.

Good should lead us to the Incarnation – spirit and flesh. There needs to be a balance in our life.

    G.K. Chesterton

I have had an opportunity to see the work at a free health clinic. As I looked over the people who were at the clinic, I saw a feeling of hopelessness. How can any true American be so insensitive to the needs of their brothers and sisters in God? We are in a full scale depression.

Here is a five part breakdown of some of G.K.’s thoughts.

I would like to share with you the words and thoughts of G.K. Chesterton. We will need time to reflect on his words and thoughts and not just read his words. I will give you his words and thoughts in 5 parts or sections. I do not want to overload you in one part or section. True reflection will take time.

This is part one of five sections.

The Gilbert Keith Chesterton Society is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936) had profound influence on such diverse 20th century figures as Mohandas Gandhi, C.S Lewis, and T.S. Eliot. Mr. Chesterton is also known as the Apostle of Common Sense.

I had a chance to listen to G.K.’s words and thoughts on radio from January, 2003 through January, 2004. His writings were discussed for thirty minute parts, sections, or time. His writings would be discussed for a week here and a week there. What is amazing about his work and writings are that his writings can be applied today. While I listened to the radio shows, I took notes.

I have divided the information on G.K. Chesterton into several parts or sections in order not to overwhelm you. Please do not just read the words. It is important to reflect on the words and thoughts.

I want to begin with his steps for conversion. Actually, these steps had to do with religion but these steps can be applied to parties and politics.

Here are the three steps for conversion.

One, be fair and open minded to the truth!

Two, realize the truth and investigate the parties and politics!

Three, is the party or politics pulling you to the truth and you can accept conversion or reject it!

G.K. was a master of logic. Only the truth can free us and make us happy. We cannot compromise in these areas – wisdom, truth, innocence, and goodness.

    Quotes from G.K. Chesterton

Jesus speaks sanity to a world of lunatics.

It’s not that Christianity has been tried and failed. It’s that Christianity has never been tried.

Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies even if they become fashionable.

Take away the supernatural and what remains is the unnatural.

There is a great man who makes every man feel small. But, the real great man is the man who makes every man feel great.

    Psychoanalysis is confession without absolution.

The most astonishing thing about miracles is that they happen.

The rich are the scum of the earth in every country.

The honest poor can sometimes forget poverty. The honest rich can never forget it.

Art, like morality, consists of drawing the line somewhere.

I regard golf as an expensive way of playing marbles.

Here is one of my favorite quotes from Mahatma Gandhi.

I like your Jesus. It’s your Christians I do not like.

Here is truly a great quote.

Every time I hear that the United States is a Christian nation I have a torrential puke. – Gerald Socha

    G. K. Chesterton

Here are some thoughts from G.K. Chesterton, the Apostle of Commonsense.

Government and commerce should not grow too large because people will not control government and commerce. They will control us. Under Reagan and Bush government has ballooned. You cannot have a moral government from an immoral government. Today, America has an immoral government.

The voice of God is important in a democracy. A false god will lead us astray. Enemies of the families are the enemies of democracy. The Reagan and Bush’s policies hurt families. For democracy to work we must value the family. Democracy is from the bottom up and not top down. Freedom is independence. The Reagan and Bush’s policies have enslaved Americans. Self-denial is the test of self-government. Self-government is thinking for ourselves. We must do things for ourselves but Reagan and Bush and their band of goons and thieves want to control our thought processes and what we do in our lives and what we do for our lives.

Big business and big government are bad for democracy. Corporations want to control Americans and the world population. We have lost commonsense because we have lost a common heritage.

We live by the wage. Wage slavery is still slavery. Servile state is inconsistent with democracy. Property is a form of democracy. Distribution is a form of democracy. God wants all of us to share in the goods and goodness of our planet. Human happiness should be our end in a democracy. The Reagan and Bush’s policies have enslaved and made Americans

and the world population miserable. A small salary is eternal slavery. The Reagan and Bush and their band of goons and thugs do not want to increase the minimum wage on a continuing basis so that we will remain eternal slaves to corporations, Bushites, and the Reaganites.

Democracy is difficult. Democracy must be concerned with justice. The Patriot Acts removed justice. For democracy to work we must love God and we must love our neighbor. The Reagan and Bush’s policies have us hating our neighbors.

Does anyone really believe Reagan that government is the problem. Our government can be very helpful but our government today is an oppressive government that is enslaving and impoverishing the poor and working classes of Americans. Our government can pinpoint our secrets, such as to what time we take a fart or when we pick our nose. Our government through satellite surveillances can tell what time we made love with our wife. Yes, in certain ways our government is the problem. A socialistic government would benefit at least ninety percent of our citizens with safety net programs.

God, our Anti-Christ nation needs you now more than ever.

    Mr. Dnarnadem,

Interesting take, Regan was a success because of the democrats. Obama is a failure because of the Republicans. At least you admit Regan was a success. You're making progress. I guess Presidential leadership has nothing to do with the equation.

Jobs Bills!! You must be a government worker. The government doesn't tell busineess to hire. Stimulus is too artifical to work. Business grow by taking risks, seizing on opportunties, planning and executing. Having a clear vision of what they want to accomplish. The present congress is still cleaning up the mess left by the previous one. The budget wasn't completed until April, even though the fiscal year began in October 2010. Now the Congresss is dealing with raising the debt ceiling, which also should have been dealt with by the last Congress.

This administration is failing not because the Republicans won't co-operate, but because it is incompetent and can't provide the leadership this country so desperately needs.

    A True Hero

I have shared with you my belief of Pope John Paul II as he lived and I have not changed my view of him now that he is with our Creator. The physical Pope has died but his life and his words will never die.

The Catholic News Service has written many articles on Pope John Paul II. We keep hearing that the world and America need heroes. The world and America are suffering in a malaise of leadership. Let me say that with the world in general and with America more specifically looking for heroes we have only to look to Rome for such a person. His name was Pope John Paul II. The Pope’s entire life had been one of heroism. At great risk to his mother’s health she gave birth to Pope John Paul II. He survived Nazism and he lived through Communism. At great risk to himself he studied to be a priest.

Pope John Paul II was a man of courage and compassion. He stood fast against the war in Iraq. Even though the Catholic media ran away from him by justifying the war, Pope John Paul II said that the war was “wrong and immoral” and that the preventive war theory was “gravely immoral.” He had stressed that war does not resolve conflicts among countries.

The Pope continued to be a champion for our need to experience a “culture of Pentecost” and that we are to work to build a “civilization of love.” Pope John Paul II was truly a hero. I want to personally adopt him as a real American hero. He was a man whom we should strive to emulate in our actions, behaviors, and words. With Pope John Paul II as our model the world would be a better place for all human beings.

Next Sunday is Pentecost Sunsay. Let us use June 12, 2011 as a day to focus on a "CIVILIZATION OF LOVE."

2950-10K, PREDATORY CAPITALISM HAS US BY THE SHORT HAIRS AND IT HURTS. There was an article on socialism and we must develop a fondness for this word. THERE MUST ALSO BE MORE TALK OF SHARED SACRIFICES!!!!! If people can accept Democratic Functionalism, then we may want to call it - Democratic Functionalism. We have answers for our many problems but greed and selfishness have a strangle hold on us and also on our moral compasses. NONE OF US NEED TO BE TIMID WITH OUR WORDS!!! We are and will be facing ongoing battles with Satan's disciples in this country. These disciples are the American rich, American transnational corporations, and the American politicians.

  • Let’s try something that’s been proven to work before…a New Deal   14 years 8 weeks ago

@2950-10K, I am not an economist. Our eldest son was visiting us for the Memorial Day weekend. He showed my wife and me an article that said in the past ten years raises were only 4.2%. With 3% cost of living increases in goods and services Americans fell behind 25.8% in buying power that would have helped to generate our economy. With price manipulations in wages, salaries, stocks and bonds, food, oil and energy Americans are really living in a banana republic and a third world country. The American rich and American transnational corporations want Americans to be cannon fodder (to be killed and maimed in endless wars), mushrooms (keep them in the dark and feed them shit), and turnips (by sucking all the blood from them). WE NEED SOCIALISM IN OUR HELL-HOLE, RAT-HOLE, AND SHIT-HOLE ANTI-CHRIST COUNTRY.

Thanks gerald, I agree unregulated capitalism is the problem, Democratic Socialsm is the answer and I'm damn tired of being timid about the words. I've even thought about calling it Democratic Functionalism!......... Fight on brother!

I would like to finish my #44 comment with another reason economic recovery has stalled out, and any good economist will back me up on this. In many states, governors continue to slash programs and spending rather than opt to get the rich to pay their fair share of taxes. This wrongheaded approach is motivated by the right wings desire to break unions and privatize for the enrichment of a few. This not only stalls out economic recovery and kills jobs, it also nullifys the federal stimulus program designed to kickstart the economy. This is the time to borrow and spend if we truly want to end this working class depression.

Even in the state of N.Y. Cuomo has bought into the lie that taxing the super rich is job killing, or maybe he's smarter than that and really just fears the same billionaires "banksters" that ruined Spitzer.

Are these guys all sniffing Palin exhaust? The repubs in the house of rep surely are, they may get what their wishing for by August!

    Was Jesus Liberal?

I cannot say whether or not Jesus was a liberal. I have tried to study Jesus and His life and I have come to the conclusion that Jesus loves the sinner but not the sin.

Of all the sins that are committed Jesus had great affection for harlots. He loved them more because women during Jesus’ time on earth had very tough lives. A woman was considered below a man’s possessions and his children. If a woman’s husband died, she was at the mercy of the husband’s family and her family to be taken into their home and helped. Many women were not accepted and they were left on the street to survive by themselves. Some became harlots and some found work picking up the animal dung that was left on the streets and roads.

Children of a dead father were more readily accepted because they could do the work and much of the work was hard labor so the children had some value. Their mothers had to fend for themselves.

@2950-10K, Elioflight agrees and I say your comment hits a home run!!! Socialism is a word, an institution, and a way of living that needs to be cherished like a bottle of fine wine. Socialism is the answer in resolving many of the world's problems that we face today!!!!! LONG LIVE SOCIALISM!!!!!

  • Let’s try something that’s been proven to work before…a New Deal   14 years 8 weeks ago

There was a saying that two experiences are certain – death and taxes. We know now that the American rich and American transnational corporations who are persons do not pay taxes. That leaves death. Death is the equalizer for every human being on this planet. Even in death there must be equality. This equality comes from God, the Father. Each soul must be pure. The purification takes place through the purging of our sins in Purgatory. The American rich will not escape this purification experience; no human being will escape it. Each soul entering heaven must be pure. PURE SOULS ARE THE EQUALIZER!!!!! Believe it or not!!!!!

dnarnadem, I'm always amazed by those who demonize the word socialism, "socialist"! The thing many do not understand is that the working class via directly or indirectly by the sweat of our backs and minds, ALLOCATES enormous sums of wealth to a relatively small number of feudal-like pigs who in many cases do not even lift a finger unless their holding a golf club!

Many of my elderly neighbors would be living in abject poverty were it not for SOCIAL programs. Most of these good folks spent a lifetime working for industry that tremendously enriched the owners, but left these dedicated workers penniless at retirement. We the citizens need to regulate by means of democratic socialism the bald faced and destructive greed that many so called job creators seem to exhibit, it would truly be a DEMOCRACY then!

  • Let’s try something that’s been proven to work before…a New Deal   14 years 8 weeks ago

If you really THINK, then you realize that Reagan was our first corporate President since the Depression..

Under "his" (corporate, he was already suffering dementia) administration he started the mess that we are now in. His "Union busting" left a legacy of no rights in the workplace and a steadily declining Union membership, mainly because he "eased" the process of allowing collective bargaining (Unions) to form. Every since then, we have had "stagnating wages" in the workplace. I am 50 y.o. and I made more money as a teenager than most people earn today and the value of the dollar is probably half of what it was then.

One of the most despicable accomplishments of his Presidency was to have the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE rescinded by his FCC. Now, by court precedence, media "news" is not required to be honest. This is (IMO) why Americans do not revolt. They are fed a steady diet of propaganda by the MSM. MOST Americans still believe (vehemently), that if it is "reported" on tee vee news, it is the truth. My brother, an apolitical Progressive (who exists below the poverty line and has no health insurance, just like my Sister who has cancer) says, when we have watched tee vee together, that "if it is on the news, it HAS to be true." I have asked many people, they believe that. They, like me, were raised during the FCC rule that did regulate and enforce the Fairness Doctrine, they just do not realize that it no longer exists. Goebels realized and utilized propaganda as a way to control Germany during Hitlers reign and Reagan"s masters realized how effective it is.

Reagan also cut the taxes on the wealthy and started the "trickle down" theory. This has proven itself many times, to be a false theory. Yet, "we" still operate on that principle. That is why we have the worst income distribution in the world. It is only getting worse.

When America led the rebuilding of the axis nations (the Marshall plan) that were destroyed during WWII, FDR made sure that those countries had some type of Universal Health Care and a strong Union system. Like Mitch Daniels (IN governor), Hitlers first official act was to "suspend" Germany's Unions. He realized that a populace that was too busy trying to financially survive, would not notice his treacherous designs. America, IMO, is much like Germany under Hitler's rule. We may not have mass genocide (yet, except on the Muslim nations) but we have the merger of corporations and government that Mussolini perfected. We have most people trying to survive on little pay. We have a SCOTUS that is not answerable to the citizens or held responsible for their criminal activity, much like our politicians, who know that as long as corporations are "people(?)", they only have to please their corporate constituency to get elected. The ordinary person (living, breathing, underpaid) cannot pay the million$ required these days, to get the politicians elected. We need a Bernie Sanders in the White House. He embodies the "people first" spirit of FDR.

@dnarnadem & wmstoll, interesting, that Purgatory is an invention of the Catholic Church. Purgatory is not an invention. It is more of an explanation of how souls can enter heaven. Sin leaves a stain on the soul. No soul can enter heaven unless the soul is pure. Jesus has said we are to forgive 70 times 7. A phrase meaning that forgiveness is important and we need to keep forgiving a person or persons.. After the sin the stain remains on the soul and the stain is purged in Purgatory. Jesus wants all souls in heaven and Purgatory is a preparation for heaven.
