Weaning happens in most animals because they become lactose intolerant, not the other way around. Some humans are lactose tolerant throughout their lives because they've evolved to be that way. This indicates that ingesting milk (from other animals) has actually helped their people survive through the ages. Lactose tolerance was acheived by delaying the onset of lactose intolerance. Some people's delay is only partial and they can become lactose intolerant in mid-life. Thom's story of becoming lactose intolerant by not consuming dairy for a long time sounds plausible, but it might be a coincidence of timing. Or maybe growing lactose intolerance was a psychological push to giving up dairy?

This is a brilliant, educational lecture about our distorted history.
In 2006, Robert Wuhl produced Assume the Position with Mr. Wuhl, where he taught a history class to show how history is created and propagated in a similar fashion to pop culture. A second chapter entitled Assume the Position 201 with Mr. Wuhl aired on HBO in July 2007. Wuhl is currently developing a stage adaptation of "Assume the Position" at Ars Nova in New York City.
The call with Tina was great. What she said about accidental force-feeding with a bottle means that even pumped milk can be a bad way of feeding a baby (though still better than formula). I also wonder about pumping because it may be too homogenized, whereas straight from the breast, milk starts out watery and progresses to caloric and nutritive.
To Carrie Lukas: WIC does promote breast feeding, but they will provide for formula if that's what the mother wants.

What color is the sky in this guys world? When was the last time Fox hosted an all-Democratic debate or did a segment on "what *Democrats* need to do to win"?
Fox constantly has on obscure pundits that "claim" they are "Liberal" and/or Democrats, but wouldn't know a Liberal of Democrat if they met one at a GreenPeace rally.
That 'all comes down from above' is an illusion. What seems an inherent social conscience has determined our course;--been the 'master' we followed;--what overcame physical obstacles,--and moved human laws toward compliance with an ideal called justice.
Not that I want to say Palin was correct, for the most part she was quite off on Paul Reveres ride. However, the British Army's objective was to seize arms as well as to arrest prominent rebels (or as we now call them, Founding Fathers). So as far as her main point about protecting arms, in a way she was correct... but I think that it was more a mistake of being correct on her part.

Medicare for All Brand. "Medicare for All" is going to be much easier to message than, "Single-payer Healthcare". More people understand, or think they understand Medicare. It has a highly recognized brand. It is thus more difficult for the conservatives to message against.
Let's do the cause a benefit and make an effort to drop the use of "single-payer" or "single-payer healthcare" from our public lexicon. Encourage state legislatures to title their health care efforts as "(Name of State) Medicare for All".

Check It out. A nice intro. The idea of Purgatory as a Place certainly did not appear before 1100 as part of Catholic doctrine. Ancient belief held that one could be purified in an intermediate place, but only the Catholic Church have it as a doctrine that one's soul could be saved in such a place.

Now Palindromadary states ..." clamp down on what people Say on-line...". as if the new office is a dictatorial inquisitional type office! It is NO SUCH thing! As I read the quote, the new office will respond to unfavorable comments or distortions or just outright lying by those whose primary agenda is to distort the truth! And, as I stated earlier - BOUT FRIGGIN TIME!!

Democrats, you see, are more conciliatory and want what is best for the American People. So they WORKED with Reagan.
With Republicans it's either my way or the Highway! See the difference.
Also, Reagan was as WHITE as they come! WHITE Democratic senators and congressmen working with WHITE republican Presidents is no big hardship.
Now President Obama is BLACK. And I believe ALL the Republican Senators and most if not all Republican Congressman are WHITE. It is no secret that the Republican Party today is bit racist. From day one the Republicans STOPPED working with Obama and the Democrats. It is not that Obama has not tried to get the Republicans to work with him; it is the Republican Party Platform and AGENDA to NOT work with him! They want him to Fail!
As to jobs bills - It is the CONGRESS who holds the purse and therefore it is Congresses job to introduce Jobs Bills, send them to the Senate and then signed by the President. If you have none coming forward, who cares when they will be introduced in the Budget! (Also, bills in the double digits on Abortion and NONE on ideas on how to create jobs, tells you exactly where the present Congress is on the Job problem – trying to control women’s uteruses!) And you gotta love that bit about "Business (sic) grow by taking risks, seizing on opportunities (sic), planning and executing. Having a clear vision of what they want to accomplish"!! That has to be the biggest bit of BS I've read in ages! Under Bush, corporations had the biggest tax breaks in history! Eight Years! And how many jobs created? 1 million or less! Under the Clinton years they paid way more taxes and 25 Million jobs were created! And all those Corporations are still under the Bush Tax cuts today - how many jobs have they created and new businesses created since Obama came into office? Practically none! (And in fact, 10 of these Corporations have paid NO taxes whatsoever in the last 2-3 years! And they made over 100 Billion in Profits! And they downsized their workforces to boot!) Need I mention that under Reagan, even with all the Tax Breaks, bank and business de-regulations and Free Trade, the manufacturing businesses and jobs here in the United States DISAPPEARED to the tune 1000s of businesses and Millions of Jobs! Those idealist Risk Takers and opportunists you extoll, they went to CHINA!
And that last bit about government stimulus being too weak to work. It is not meant to replace Capitalism. It is meant to prime the pump. Circulate the money, create jobs, people have money to spend, Business can be created, more jobs can then be created. THEN it becomes the job of those risk takers you so eulogize, to become creative, brave and grasp the opportunities! But when the economy is in the doldrums, it is not the Brave corporations who stimulate, it is the government: as the brave corporations are too busy trying to save their money and close down their businesses! (Obama saved GM and Chrysler. Saved Millions of jobs. And saved1000s of supportive business with stimulus money or loans! The republicans wanted to have those businesses fail! The money lent has been paid way in advance. Yet, from your perspective this was a total failure! Need I add, that the stimulus provided by Obama, was done under a DEMOCRATIC controlled congress. If he tried this tomorrow he’d be laughed out of the house by the REPUBLICAN controlled congress today, and GM and Chrysler would be a thing of the past!)
And again, quit it with the Mr. Still makes you look foolish. As far as I’m concerned this is a gender free blog. Let’s keep it that way.
Don't know about Jesus as he was Jewish and he taught redemption to his people - but Paul most certainly was, as his message was ecumenical and he wanted to preach the word of Jesus to the non-jewish citizens of the then Roman Empire. And the target of his message were the People, not the ruling elite!

What Reagan started we are reaping today. De-regulation of the Banks and Corporations - Union busting - less taxes for the rich - more taxes for the workers - sweeping privatization of federal jobs (which was and still is a disaster by the way!) - Voodoo economics – demonizing of public education – abortion - I mean on and on, and the right wing dingbats are still at it today with even more ferocity!
We are where we are today because of Reagan and his childish and simplistic ideology. An ideology that has about as much reality as a Unicorn or a Blue Moose! It is absurd nonsense.
But there are people who are making this into law of the land and it is dangerous to our Democracy. You may very well BELIEVE that paying no taxes is a GOOD thing, but collecting no taxes, does not get any bills paid. That is the why of deficits. And that is why Reagan and his cronies left one the BIGGEST deficits in modern history! And it has been increasing ever since.
How anyone can believe that you can fight trillion dollar wars and not collect taxes to pay for them is a LUNATIC! Yet that is the platform of the Republican Party! Never mind all the SOCIAL programs they demonize and hate, but Wars, Armies, Prisons, Hugh Police Forces, Homeland Security – etc. that costs trillions; hey, we don’t need to collect taxes to pay that, at least taxes from the super-rich; we’ll just tax the poor and blame them for all the ills of the land!

Yes it is quite amazing! What is even more amazing is the fact that FDR in the 30s used and implemented many Socialist ideas, especially Social Security. Imagine what our country would be like today if SS would not have been implemented!
Now the greedy rich would love to get rid of this program and RE-ALLOCATE all that money into THEIR pockets! So with Medicare and Medicaid!
Also quite amazing is the demonizing of the word by neo-cons and Republicans - and Taxes, Collective Bargaining, Unions, Public Education - anything and everything that benefits the average working person in this country! It is like Rich RESENT the fact that the Money made by the people is going back into the pockets of the people, I mean literally resent that fact!
Also a problem is the fact that the very same people are being DUPED by the RIGHT WING corporatists/banksters to believe that what the people generate by the sweat of their brow, really belongs to the Corporatists/Banksters and the Few filthy rich! How can the Many be so easily swayed and duped to act against their own self-interest? That is the BIG question facing modern societies, and especially now in America.
Case in point – 10 of the largest Corporations in America (There are MANY more!!), paid NO income taxes this year – NONE! And some actually got REBATES! And they made profits totaling over 100 Billion dollars! I personally paid more taxes this year than all these 10 combined did!
And no one has taken to the streets!!! Something very, very wrong here!
The American people need to wake up from their slumber and start advocating Re-ALLOCATION of some of that money BACK into their pockets via Taxes. The Rich need to pay their fair share.

I submit the mess in Congress really speaks volumes more about our system and those who elect the alleged representatives than those getting elected. For decades many American voters - I are one - have been faced with the sad choice of having to select the lesser of two evils. My previous mis-representative was Heath Shuler D-NC 11, one of the Blue (Cross) Demodorks. A vote for my choice in NC did not exist, as the Green Party is not recognized there.
Having said that, our energy policy - or lack thereof - speaks volumes as well. We fight endless wars over a finite resource, and in the process of these oil wars our military complex has become the biggest user of products refined from the very substance we are slowly running out of. Not only are we committing trillions of dollars (in the long run) we are wasting what we fight for. Unless we get representation in Congress that represents us the people and not special interests, nothing will change. Except for the worse, and more tax give-aways for the uber-rich of course.
Dramatic re-direction of funds from the military-industrial-congressional complex to a public energy endeavor is needed. Creating a renewable energy source - owned by US the people - and creating jobs along the way is the only way and the right way. I live in Southern California and almost every agricultural field in the Imperial Valley is bordered by geo-thermal piping, creating clean energy. Energy is but one of the problems we face, but it also is the one avenues we should use and change the way we do things. Education, single payer health insurance (MediCare-E), and banking are right up there and need to be tackled and fixed in a manner benefitting the people first.
Unfortunately, with the current crop of retrogressive special interest lackeys and the inteligence deficient wanna-be's who are running, the light at the end of the tunnel is an on-coming freight train on it's way to a train wreck.
Unfortunately, when chosing the lesser of two evils it is still evil...
