For FoxFakeVeiws to expound on sexual purity is the epitome of hypocrisy. Their dinner hour family sit-com progamming is fraught with the cheapening of human relationships thru crude, causal, and irresponsible sexual reference and activity. They sexualize children by placing them in the middle of these grotesque scenerios. Phooey on Phox -- and while we are at it: Deny FoxFake access to Helen Thomas' front row White Housepress room seat. CREDO ACTION is running a petition to the White House Correspondents Association asking that FOX not be granted that seat which they are trying to get. Petition here:
There are lots of parents who let (or make) their kids pack their own lunches. My mother works at my son's school and it's pretty amazing what she sees in lunches. And we live in Scottsdale.
If people care so much about nutrition, why are there so many McDonald's and other fast food places?
I'd like to point out that Peanut Butter sandwiches are not allowed at some schools, due to severe food alergies.
I would send my daughter with a great sandwich, sometimes on artisan bread. I'm really lucky that she grew up with a healthy attitude for food. I never had to make her something separate from what the rest of us were eating.
Several years back Timkin High School in North Canton, OH switched to "abstinence only" (or as I call it - "ignorance only") sex education.
surprisingly ... just a couple of years later - in 2005 - there was a population explosion at the school when 65 of their 490 female students were pregnant.
@Jeanie: I was semi-serious . . . Go to ComedyCentral.com . . . Watch the South Park episode entitled, "The Ring" (Season 13) for a frame of reference . . . Then watch the kid’s programming on Disney . . . Unless you like the Disney . . . You can’t go back.
It is the same with all the Disney Princess movies . . . Smart and able women doing miraculous things are only fulfilled by getting married to sword-wielder THEN they typically get killed during (the ultimate gift of life at their expense) or just after child birth (Perhaps it is only a generalization cuz it’s true).
I've taught high school for 32 years and I believe that for the majority of adolescents, if armed with honest, factual data, will make good decisions for themselves. If adults try to lie to young people, they will reject the entire message. It is insufficient to speak only of the dangers of sexual activity and try to scare them into compliance. The most effective sex education would also tell kids how to safely deal with their feelings and natural urges instead of simply trying to shame them into supressing those feelings to the point where they become obsessive or vulnerable to a dangerous, impulsive decision.

Dr. Reisman makes a living on peddling ignorance. First of all, these "sexperts" use curriculum guides as their "ammunition." In 32 years as a public school teacher in New York State, I can tell you that the actual sex education kids receive in the classroom is minimal, clinical and totally inadequate. Perhaps if they want to discourage interest in sex among adolescents, the state should concoct a standardized fill-in-the-bubbles test. Standardized testing mania has sucked the life out of the rest of the curriculum, perhaps it will work for teen sexual experimentation.
Privacy is a lost cause for reasons rooted in technology, not law. What is needed is reciprocal transparency, meaning we the people must have the advanced data mining tools to get a high-resolution picture of what's going on.
I think kids will listen if you give them accurate information. My son heard me talk about some research I read about relating to drinking soda stunting kids' growth. He never has ever wanted to drink soda (although it's because he thinks he'll shrink). They teach them in school about the very real dangers about smoking, and my son can't understand why people want to smoke. He even used to say to me, as we passed by people who were smoking, "Don't they know they're going to die?" (which always made the person look at us).
So even if kids get messages a little mixed up, the basic idea is still there. And I think it's better than telling them not to do it just because I say so, since that will make them want to do it 100 times more.
Frankly, it seems to me that if the issue is more and more under aged kids are getting sexually active, one of the main issues is that the age the typical human goes through puberty is by default under aged. If you can't teach someone responsible methods of sexual activity until they're are "of age", its far too late. I think personally think sex education should begin prior to the typical age of onset of puberty.
Squirrels are a problem for homeowners. They are fond of bird feeders. In order to have the squirrels away from the bird feeders a person needs to remember the rule that feeders must be 5 feet from the ground; 7 feet from the branches of trees so that the squirrel cannot jump onto the feeder; and 9 feet high from the top of the feeder. Squirrels are reluctant to jump when they are too high from the feeder. Here are some other ways to protect the bird feeders, such as attach a slinky toy from the base of the feeder down the pole, attach a dome bath over the feeder like an umbrella. The dome bath should be wide enough to cover the feeder so that the squirrels are unable to feed.
You should call a pest control agent if a squirrel is inside your home. Squirrels are very street smart.
Christmas time is breeding time for squirrels and their life expectancy is about one year. Squirrels are prey for bigger wildlife.
On your News item, there are also a number of people who refuse to believe that the United States incarcerated nearly 120,000 people of Japanese descent (many of whom American Citizens) without cause. IMHO, this is due to the fact that this high point in American History was omitted from history books for years. I was in High School in the '70s and was amazed to see that the entire episode was covered in a single paragraph!
I have actually met people who refused to believe that Internment happened. I so wanted to introduce them to my parents, who were there. Instead, I refer them to Executive Order 9066.
I watch the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, but I haven't noticed anything offensive to kids. Or were you joking?
On another note, I say let my huband stare at women's chests all he wants. He'll be much less likely to notice my shoe and clothing purchases. Win-win.
@MAXROT: I find that my blood pressure drops about five minutes (or so) after I do the staring at body parts thing. During that first five minutes (or so) my blood pressure goes up for some inexplicable reason.

Why scale back the school lunch program, why not improve the quality of food?
Duuuuhhhhhhh!!!!

The real food policing is in the contract terms imposed on cash-starved schools by the vending and junk food industries.
Uh-oh, now it's the food police we have to be afraid, very afraid about. I better put on my tinfoil hat for this interview.
@buckbuck11, if they fail the test do you give them an orphaned baby? Might encourage them to study real hard.

Maybe a sort of placement exam could serve as an assessment of the state of sex education and identify subject areas needing extra emphasis.

Thom----Have you checked out the OIL SPILL in Michigan? Nearly a million gallons in the Kalamazoo River heading toward Lake Michigan.

Hey Thom you and your guest Dr. Judith Reisman are both wrong, studies have shown that the sexual activity of teens has been going down for decades.
<sarcasm>Maxrot: Spay or neuter yourselves and bypass the teenagers altogether.</sarcasm> Flag as offensive if offensive.
Heck if looking at hooters is good for my health, call me a health nut.

Maybe we should just start a new health program:
Spay or Neuter your teenager, it'll keep them healthy and we won't have to keep so many in cages.
