You know what I'd like to see the White House do, I'd like them to announce that they are going put Solar Panels on every Federal Building throughout all of the US, its territories, and on all its embassies throughout the world starting immediately. I'd also like them to then encourage every state and city government to take similar actions with their public buildings.

I think that would please progressives, 'tis a pity Obama isn't concerned about pleasing progressives.

Here we go again with the Short-Term Memory and Slow Processing of Information. Oil is the problem? New vehicles with the same gas mileage as those in the past 50 years are the problem? No, habitual drivers are the problem. Traffic density in small towns is comparable to that of large cities. When laws appear impossible to change, then we the people have to selectively boycott the problem. Boycott your old habits of driving only to get out of the house. I believe President Obama indicated that we are the problem and the solution. I seldom see a fuel efficient vehicle. The majority of vehicles seem to indicate a false sense of wealth. I remember hearing President Obama say, during the campaign, proper tire inflation would improve gas mileage. The Republicans and their dominions were belligerent to him. The previous administration and Republicans in Democratic clothing have legalized addiction & death by oil. So why would President Obama say anything more to adults. Adults refusing to independently drive less. Adults refusing to spend time at home, or anything else that doesn't require burning gasoline and oil. Maybe they are addicted to the toxic fumes. A decrease in consumption only occurs when the price becomes a challenge. The wealth of these companies indicates these adults are pleased with this relationship.

Forget Dems vs Rep, all should be working for us!!! BUT why isn't Obama & all the Dems bringing up the fact that it WAS NOT the Dems now that are responsible for a lot of whats going on now, Previous administrations & Presidents are responsible for what is going on now, NOT obama...BUT, WHY won't they speak out....

I cannot describe how disappointed I was to turn on your program and hear you give airtime for a reality show on Nevada brothels. Do you really think the sexual exploitation of women and children is funny? Perhaps you are smart enough to realize the convenient argument that “it is their choice” has no meaning in the context of 10,000 years of patriarchy. Oppressed people always replicate the conditions of their oppression. You have given legitimacy to a culture that has mainstreamed prostitution and is essentially attempting to groom all girls.

Shame on you. I expected more from a man who touts himself as a progressive and an intellectual. We need the decent men in this world, and I believe you may be one of them, to stand up and say no to sexual exploitation whereever you see it. @harry ashburn, yes, there are many ways to reduce our population. I sense that more people are choosing not to have children for a variety of reasons. I understand that it takes $180,000 to raise a child from birth to 18 years of age. And, another $100,000 to have that child pursue an undergraduate degree. That adds up to $280,000 per child. Catholic television and radio say that a good Catholic couple will have six children. If you multiply $280,000 by six, a couple must earn $1,680,000 in their lifetime. This figure is a net income. The Diocese of Albany, New york says to the parishioners that unless you tied (sp) 10% of your gross income, you cannot be a member of a parish. I guess money will always be my Church's prime objective. It is sad, very sad. And, people wonder why Catholicism is losing membership. If I recall correctly, my Jesus has never asked for money in ministering to His people.

Obama Pigeon Alert: Pres. Obama's speech reminded me of one of my favorite Abraham Lincoln quotes: The speech wasn't "as thin as the homeopathic soup that was made by boiling the shadow of a pigeon that had starved to death," but it was pretty darned close.

Thom, if I'm not mistaken the "tea party" movement started in the late 90s with Alex Jones. Prior to April 2009 there was tons of tea party activity, almost all of which was within the Ron Paul movement. It has since been hijacked by neoconservative hypocrites, and -- surprise! -- only THEN do the mass media, the HuffPo, etc. only realize the tea party movement exists. Right at the very minute an opportunity to label all of them as hypocrites arises (note: I'm not involved with any tea party stuff -- just observing what I've seen).

The true tea party people *were* protesting Bush's police-state measures back then. The neocons were not -- as they had not yet hijacked the tea parties.

And forcing someone to pay for trash services is indeed force. Just because it's a necessary service for human beings doesn't mean that all of a sudden people have an objective duty to "pay for it" through taxation.
