That's right - according to data from the US Education Department - 24 percent of elementary schools and 42 percent of high schools had a law enforcement officer on staff - and more than half of the schools that were majority black or latino had an officer to patrol campus. So why are we spending money on cops in schools - instead of on school counselors? Isn't this just proof of how effective the school to prison pipeline is?

These are all good things - which makes his recent decision to expand offshore drilling in the Arctic all the more distressing - especially given the findings in a new report from Greenpeace. That report has found that the Obama administration's offshore drilling plan would "lead to a net increase in global carbon emissions of about 850 million metric tons of carbon dioxide... equivalent to the annual emissions of 3.6 million passenger vehicles over fifty years."

It would cut Social Security - impose onerous new work requirements on a number of different welfare programs - slash funding for Head Start - and even do away with a new law that requires financial advisors to act in their clients best interest. Who’s Paul Ryan kidding? When are Republicans going to admit that the best anti-poverty plan is a strong labor movement coupled with a protectionist trade policy, high taxes on the rich and a regulated financial industry?
