Whooo -Hooo! I beat MarkK to the "first poster" position today! :)

But ... hold on here a minute, boys - I think they might have gotten it all wrong. Obama ain't secretly a Moslem ... it's even WORSE ... He's secretly a JEW!

And damn that Reverend Wright for trying to confuse everybody, too! :D

Here is a truly radical idea:

There should be a movement to revoke the tax exemption for the Catholic Church. I may be wrong, but a religion's tax exemption in part depends on it's staying out of political party promotion, and the Catholic church has been advocating Republican candidates for years.

In 2004, the priest at the church my wife attends (I am a practicing rationalist, and do not follow any religion) told his parishioners that if they voted for Kerry they would be excommunicated from the church. To me, that meant that they were no longer a church, but a political party organ, and should lose their tax exemption status.

That seems to be continuing, as the official policy of the Catholic church is that you shouldn't abort fetuses, as that will cut off the supply of children for its officials to rape. And that therefor voting for rational, progressive candidates is against Catholic doctrine.

It is no longer a church; it's just a pederast support group. In other words a branch of the Republican party.

    Ha ha.

This is a two part story. First it’s about just how crazy some of the “righties” have been talking, and I believe promoting violence against Obama. Second, it’s about how effective it’s apparently been.

I was making a trip out West and coming into Denver late in the evening. I stopped my scan of the radio dial on 850 AM, and listened to a guy name “Gunny Bob” whose real name is Bob Newman. He was saying things like, “I don’t want to see anything happen, but if Obama keeps doing what he’s doing, I’m really worried someone’s going to take him out”. To me, that’s an underhanded way of promoting the assassination of the President. I believed he and his callers were cleverly talking in code about the assassination of the President, so I called the Secret Service in Denver and told them of my concerns and urged them to get transcripts of the show and decide for themselves.

KOA 850 AM Denver “is nicknamed "the Blowtorch of the West" for its 50,000 watt signal. At night the signal can be heard in over 30 states of the U.S. and over most of Canada and Mexico” (Wikipedia). Ironically, “Gunny” unexpectedly resigned sometime in the summer of 2009.

So has what they’ve been doing worked? My wife just recently went to visit her mother who lives with a Catholic priest in Mount Olive, IL. They watch Fox News exclusively, all day long. My wife bites her tongue as her mother and the priest rant about how terrible Obama and the Democrats are for the country. In the middle of one of these diatribes, the priest says, “Where are the assassins when you need them?” Makes me wonder what he says to his flock on Sundays.

My initial reaction to that breaking news was that Cantor had one of his aides do it to nullify the anger over the teabagger violence aimed at the Dems.

I am not at ALL surprised to hear the official police report was that the bullet was fired from miles away and "fell from the sky into the building"

HAHA what hypocricy....caught in an OUT RIGHT LIE...amazing

Thom, I'm grateful to listen to you on Sirius Sat Radio while I'm on the road

    What a hypocrite, Thom?
I listened enough to see that you have just as much hate speech as the next wingnut on radio. If you dropped this "con" or that " con" wants to steal your money and make your children like "The Jungle" then you might have a point. Otherwise you are just like the rest Thom.

Just wondering Thom. Where were you when all the protests in Seattle happened? How about the violence perpetrated on Marine recruiting offices in San Fransisco??? You surely have selective attention!!!

    godknows
    you

@Charell, re Charles reply. Perhaps your spam filter put Louise's e-mail into your junk mail. I had a similar issue in January when my Professor was e-mailing our class, it put his e-mails into my junk folder. Probably what happened if Louis tried to e-mail me too, I rarely look in the folder and back when I won the book, I wasn't aware of this issue.

Check your junk (or spam folder) if you're lucky your ISP hasn't deleted the message yet (quite certain mine would've by now)

The Republican party was founded as an abolitionist party, so lets abolish it.

Re: pull-based supply works good in theory but has serious drawbacks in our society. We have this desire to "kick the tires" before we buy something. This is what drives our bricks and mortar retail economy. We are also impatient, not wanting to wait for the product to be manufactured. We want to take it with us when we leave the store.

We are in the process of transferring many of these activities to the internet. Changing our pathology of laying hands upon the product will permit manufacturers to make the great leap to pull-based supply.

    I think the phrase is;
"But.. the trains ran on time"...
Actually it's more like 'We condemn the child abuse, BUT, hey, with kids these days can you really blame..."
Not saying they are all idiots and evil, but...

@Charell Whenever i have won anything from a radio show it has sometimes taken months. So when I received a won book from Thom and got it in two weeks, I was amazed. I finally decided in the other instances, which were all during the Bush years, is that someone was reading the books before they got to me! Sorry to hear about your situation.

  • Daily Topics - Friday - March 26th 2010   15 years 18 weeks ago

@Charell, I won the same book, but I don't remember the date. Never got anything about it.

I'd like to receive the book, but in truth, I was satisfied with Thom reading and crediting my quote. (So much I made sure I watched his show on FSTV that night so my wife could hear it too).

@Charell - I won a book last year (The Edison Gene). It took SEVERAL weeks to arrive.

Is it possible that the Thom Hartmann show ships books by Carrier PIGEON?

NorMan GoldMan is significantly different from Ed Schultz. NorMan never gave in and accepted the new HCR law - he maintained a consistent Progressive critique like Kucinich and commiserated greatly with the difficulty of Kucinich's position where Ed just finally begged and blustered to Kucinich principled opposition. Dennis was just about the last man standing for state's ability to setup a single-payer system using their federal Medicare/Medicaid funds.
NorMan and Ed may riff/rant in a similar style, on the same issues and content but they do often draw different conclusions.

And yes let us all encourage Sarah Pain to start the Straight Shooter Party.
They can use this slogan: We are straight and we shoot from the hip!

I know most of Thom's listeners are as upset by the UNcivil actions being taken against our members of Congress as I am, and that the vast majority of you are also interested in taking ACTION! That's why I'd like to encourage you all to...

BE THE CHANGE you want to see, join a Coffee Party planning meeting this weekend for "Coffee with Congress" - and help lead the way back to CIVIL discourse! We're going to meet with our reps while they are home for the break.

re: Considering character over color -

So what kind of character has been demonstrated by the right this week? Some might say they are heroically sticking to their principles (almost wrote "guns" there, which is also, LITERALLY, true, but I don't wanna go there) - I'm sure that's how they see themselves.

I see a mob, in an ugly mood, that gets uglier every time a Beck, Hannity or Limbaugh opens his fat yap!

What's the OPPOSITE of character? That's what I see!

I was just wondering how long it normally takes to receive the member of the day book. I won CRACKING THE CODE four weeks ago (Feb 26) but I haven't received it yet. I didn't get an email about it, I don't think. I get so much email that I miss things sometimes.
