  • Do Republicans really want to turn us into Greece?   12 years 14 weeks ago
Quote DAnneMarc:In a religious sense, however, one may conclude that this Greek Creation Myth was around at the time of Christ.

And in a historical sense, as well, because it definitely was around at the time of the Christ myth. All of the old myths were pretty well known and the prophesied new saviors had to compete with the old ones. They not only had to be believed to be capable of similar stunts but they had to out do them. There were others professing magic at the time of the Jesus myth trying to woo the believers.

Everyone, then, all knew that the creators of the Jewish myths had foretold of a coming savior that would lead them out of bondage of the Romans. I kind of favor the idea that the whole Jesus story was created by the Roman Piso family as a way of trying to keep the rebellious Jews in their place.

And so, as you pointed out, new stories are made from old ones. But there are some parallels that just cannot be explained away by begging the sociological similarities associated with just being human. Yes, we are all born, we all eat, we all love and hate, fear and loathe, kill and try to get along, fratricide and matricide as well as infanticide has been around since the beginning. But when you get into more specialized themes like born of a virgin, born in a cave (or manger), birth attended by 3 wise men guided by a star, turning water into wine, feeding the masses with a couple loaves of bread, having 12 disciples, walking on water, casting demons out of swine, raising a man from the dead, healing the sick, dying on a cross, arising 3 days later...etc...then it is pretty apparent that plagiarism was done.

Most modern believers are so certain that those stories in the bible are literally true yet they, in many cases, don't even know about the plagiarism...or they don't want to know. Many devout believers don't even know what's in their bibles. They don't even know, or want to know, all of the sick stories, and the many contradictions, in their bibles. The catholic church hid well many of those things that might be questioned by someone who could read the bible...which was kept largely in latin for over a thousand years. Believers don't care too much to do much thinking...they just want to believe...or they have been brainwashed to believe.

And talk about eating one's young...a more modern account than the Kronos myths was that of Josephus' Cannibal Mary that he wrote about in Antiquities of the Jews.

The year was 70AD during the Roman seige of Jerusalem where many of the Jews in the countryside and surrounding towns were all taking refuge in that city...the population may have reached about 3 million. There were marauding bandits going door to door looking for, and stealing food. People were starving. Mary, daughter of Eleazar of Bathezor, a very wealthy and distinguish family, now with a baby boy, and no apparent husband, was constantly hit on for her food. She had nothing left. So, one day, knowing that she would be raided once again, she cooks her baby and eats part of it. When the raiders got there she invited them in to eat what remained. The raiders were so upset and freaked out that they left in horror never to bother her again. "Eat this flesh of my flesh...and drink this blood of my blood".

Josephus was a Jewish military leader who, while hiding in a cave, while his men got slaughtered by the Romans, was captured and eventually won approval, by the Romans, for his imagination and writing and story telling ability and obsequious flattery. Josephus' imagination and creativity often shows in various references to his works...but then..he gained favor from the wealthy and powerful Roman families because he told them what they wanted to hear...anything that would diss the Jews, perhaps?

Ritualistic cannibalism, as practiced by our modern churches, has been copied for thousands of years.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you" (John 6:53)

But then, maybe old Josephus with the help of the Piso family, in creating the new myth of Jesus, was just having a little bit of humorous fun...a little tongue in cheek...an inside joke...was Cannibal Mary's young baby son named Jesus? Was Cannibal Mary jokingly referred to when they created the Virgin Mary...no one knows how Cannibal Mary came to have a child.

In response to Thom's question of the day- I hate to be a cynic, but I don't really care what Obama says in his State Of The Union speech. He's made some great speeches and is a gifted orator. But the problem is, his policies don't measure up to his speeches. (YAWN...)

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Every time I hear Ted Nugent speak, I want to wash my ears with soap.

Popeye's Chicken! Not as greasy or smelly as KFC. I don't think KFC ever changes their frying oil. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

And so, very shortly, we'll be hearing from Chicken Man, himself..clucking away more nonsense as always.

A lovely website it is. I have many friends in the Postal service and I'm sure they appreciate your friends efforts to boost junk mail. Kudos to you both and the best of luck. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. I was hoping to see a recipe or two. Maybe she could incorporate some culinary inspiration into her web endeavour. Maybe I'm just hungry.

~cont #2~ In a religious sense, however, one may conclude that this Greek Creation Myth was around at the time of Christ. Christ who once said to pray saying, "...Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, On Earth, as it is in heaven." Perhaps this was a clue as to how the Kingdom of God will unfold.

It is ironic, indeed, how similar The Greek Creation Myth is to The Book of Revelations in the Bible. Now would that be a coincidence, evidence that human behavior is natural and follows predictable patterns, or proof that God exists and has a plan for us all?

Perhaps all, and perhaps, non of the above. However, I believe it would be wise to consider these stories if for no other reason than our antagonist certainly believe in them. Know your enemy!

    A word to the wise!

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

  • Will Obama push progressive issues tonight?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Outback GREAT POINT! If the Tea Party can have it's say, in my opinion the Green party, Libertarian, and for that matter the Communist party should also have equal time. Right?

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Does anyone know how the Secret Service dealt with Mr. Nugent reguarding threats on the President? Why he didn't get a primer on the federal crimminal justice system may be an example of being a beneficiary of competent legal counsel that seems to only be available to those who can afford it. In post constitutional America such threats may get him a visit from a drone.

  • Will Obama push progressive issues tonight?   12 years 14 weeks ago

It really doesn't matter what the President proposes tonight. Boehner is not going to let in come up for a vote.

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

It took me 12-15 minutes to find the zip code for the congressman who invited him so I could email him using an address from his district. I proposed that he (the congressman Rep. Steve Stockman) take a large caliber revolver, insert it into his anus and pull the trigger. I further said I was not a licensed physician therefore I was not qualified nor could I legally state my opinion as to what would happen when he did what I told him to do but he could ask poopie pants (sorry Thom, I sued the DOD in 1970, and won, I was already in the Army but got myself and 18,000 guys out before they caught on to the scam) but I couldn't help calling him poopie pants:-)

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

I say let him in, but given his history of at least veiled threats and Mr. Nugent's history of "packing a load" in his underwear as a response to government - let him in - but be sure to check his drawers ... and the related body cavity.

  • Will Obama push progressive issues tonight?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Oh boy! We've finally got a third party - now it's the Democratic, the Republican and the Tea Party (party). Who decided that this group of fringe loonies rated special time to rebut the State of the Union Address?

Do you have any links for Stephanie Kelton?

Hi Mr Hartmann, first off I'd like to thank you for your radio show... I don't have cabletv and I just aquired internet. It's my honor to write to you because you've made sense of ALL that have happen the last five years of the Obama Admin. with the republcanitis meaning the sick rightwing party. You have enriched my life with your knowledge of current affairs and the state of America. I live on the southside of Chicago and a 60 year old retired female carpenter (26 years union) and now to sub a lost of income i'm a school bus driver which gross $500 bi/weekly 20 hours....one step away from losing my home which began 3 years ago applying for mortification of my mortgage... I can go on about that but, what I want the President to say in his State of the Union Address is too just Stand up for the people middle class and poor.

Mr. Hartmann, again thank you.... Mary Bailey

What if there were only 100 lbs of gold in the world and it were the basis of our currency? Then as the population increased the value of the gold would go up astronomically. The gold standard itself depends upon an increasing supply otherwise it becomes extreemly inflationary due to demand. Yet this would be an artifical inflation imposed by the monetary medium itself.

As a mind exercise, I wonder what would happen if the money supply grew with population? Say the government would print $100,000/person. This means the money supply per capita and should not cause inflation.

This is a long way of saying that as long as supply and demand are in balance, there is no inflation.

Of course a healthy economy with nearly full employment vs a poor economy will certainly have big impacts. Employees who are secure enough to switch jobs will upset the balance of power, demand more benefits, etc. That is inflation caused by a power shift. We can't have that.

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! This guy only desires to incite the fringe into a frenzy to bring about mass anarchy! Keep him as far away from MY President as possible!

  • Will gun nuts defend Christopher Dorner's actions?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Nobody should believe anything said by the LAPD or the media until they have read Dorner's words for themselves. I am so glad I don't live in LA any more, but unfortunately Daryl Gates and his ilk have been sniffing around the Portland police department for decades and as a result we have the same kind of corrupt, psychotic attitudes that the LAPD has in spades.

While I hate to condone the killings, I understand what he is trying to do and in a choice between the LAPD and Dorner, I choose the latter.

MaeMae -- using the term "right to work" sounds nice but the "right to work" legislation passed in several state legislatures puts an onerous burden on unions. The legislation allows union members to forgo paying their union dues while receiving union benefits. That is unfair.

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

No!! He is a dangerous traitor that should be arrested if he shows up to the State of the Union address.

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

As much as I dispise the comments made by poopy pants, the fact remains he was invited and therefore has the right to go.

  • Should Ted Nugent be allowed to attend the SOTU?   12 years 14 weeks ago

Ted Nugent shouldn't even be allowed in DC!
