Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare … AS A TAXPosted on June 28, 2012 by WashingtonsBlog

In 2009, Obama said that his healthcare reform bill is not a tax:

    (And see this.)

The Supreme Court just upheld Obamacare … as a TAX:

A divided Supreme Court largely upheld the Obama administration’s health-care law, saying the law’s penalty for those who ignore a mandate to carry health insurance counted as a tax and was justified by Congress’s constitutional taxing power.

  • Time to push for Medicare part E – Medicare for All!   13 years 6 weeks ago

Congress will not revisit health care reform for a generation. After the 1 1/2 year battle in 2009/2010, no one in Congress, INCLUDING DEMOCRATS, will bring it up again. We have Pres Obama to blame for his lack of leadership. No profile in courage.

The Affordable Care Act will be the healthcare insurance system in the nation for a generation. Get used to it!

So I'm wondering, if someone doesn't get health insurance and ends up paying the tax penalty yearly, are they covered? or do they just end up paying the penalty and get nothing more than emergency room service as the uninsured have been getting?

Also wondering how does this make Insurance companies provide afforable health insurance?

Now Obama has the distinction of being THE PRESIDENT that legislated the LARGEST TAX INCREASE UPON THE US CITIZENS IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY. Now, all uninsured citizens must pay up to 13% of their income for PRIVATE INSURANCE or pay a penalty.

Question 1 - If ObamaCare premiums are a tax paid to private insurance companies...... are private insurance companies now considered part of the US Government???? When the private insurance companies raise the price of premiums, do they need the consent of the governed????? If not, how is this not taxation without representation????

Bottom line, the SCOTUS has undermined the US Citizens, by saying PRIVATE PREMIUMS are a tax.... they are not and congress has no right to make citizens buy private crap insurance.

A sad day for poor people. Yes, ObamaCare helps some people that can already afford insurance... but really is allowing your 26 year old child to remain on your insurance a great benefit, when the child really needs a job with insurance and a liveable wage.....

Just because the SCOTUS calls EXTORTION by PRIVATE insurance companies a TAX, does not make it so. It's just like Income Tax....which is a direct tax.... the congress said is it not a direct tax but it is... and was declared unconstitutional by the SCOTUS in 1886. What a country.

  • Time for Congress to Impeach Justice Antonin Scalia   13 years 6 weeks ago

Antonin_scalia_ranting_old_man/ agrees with Thom and brings to mind other justices past their prime. Then compare them to Ted Williams and his lesson on how to quit. His last at bat was a home run.

One similarity is the celebrityship quality. Williams earned his status as a celebrity, and his livlihood has historically enjoyed celebrity status. Scalia wants to be a celebrity, but that's not what supreme court justices are supposed to be concerned with, and definitely not supposed to have as a primary goal. He is a rush wannabe, even quotes him in cases before the court [without proper acknowledgment, and residuals]. He doesn't even read the cases before him anymore. Maybe Ailes could offer him a show on fox and he would step down.

  • The Supreme Court Doubles Down on Citizens United!   13 years 6 weeks ago

To Barbara and FullTimeLib, I totally agree and will work all that I can to help with an amendment to overturn Citizen's United. Now they have used it in Montana to destroy a law put into place to keep just such as this from happening. Howard Zinn (If you haven't read him, do so now) was right when he said that we get the government we deserve and that if we are not willing to fight for it then it is our fault. Howard was arrested many times during the illegal Vietnam war (which my husband was a part of since he was active duty Navy at that time and now suffers an illness for which VA will not pay disability) against which I marched in Norfolk Virginia. WE are responsible for what happens to US and WE need to start NOW to make sure that the amendment on Citizen's United IS overturned ASAP.

That should not be allowed in a government facility but someone should have spoken up to have it stopped. Had to do that around election time when someone brought voter material geared toward the GOP and placed it all around the quarter deck. Skipper, grudgingly, sent out a memo that no religious or political material would be allowed in the work place. I took all that had been put out and destroyed it. I went there to work - not to be preached to nor to be prodded to vote for any one side of a party. That would have been true if it had been the Dems, too.

As for religion, that is what is wrong with out country right now. Without it we could all learn the true founding of our planet and come together to preserve what is happening to destroy it.

As for today's ruling on the Obama's healthcare bill, YES!!! I am totally surprised that Justice Roberts was the one to break the 5 to 4 line and turn it around the other way. Whatever, it is a big win for those who have no insurance, have pre-existing conditions and the college students allowed to remain on their parents policies. Unfortunately, the GOP will do their very best to destroy that, too.

Don't worry...Obama won't do anything about it either. He will do just what Romney will do ..try to sweep it all under the rug. The idea of Obama cleansing anything is quite a laugh. Of course, he is all for cleansing the whistle-blowers who rat out the corrupt politicians and powerful organizations. Wait till he gets a hold of Assange...I hope not...but if the US gets him in their hands, this world-hero will be martyred. Obama has done nothing but pander to his real bosses...the ruling elite...from downplaying Bush's war criminal deeds...to appointing the very financial wolves that created the financial mess we're in to watch over the chicken coup...to letting the healthscare insurance companies and pharmaceuticals get their way...to continuing the MIC war criminal's death machine and using drones to murder innocent civilians. Obama is not our friend! He is not the answer! He will just continue pandering to our enemies while we struggle to survive.

Yes, many of the Democrats are, or were anyway, getting quite wealthy from their "insider trading"...just ask Nancy Pelosi...for one.

  • Is the GOP threatening to impeach Obama?   13 years 6 weeks ago

Would the SCOTUS reject the POTUS if someone other than a Democrat or Republican wins the majority vote? I would love to see the Green Party win and kick out the corrupt good old boys for a change. And I agree that Obama is worthy of being impeached but not for Immigration. He has continued the war criminal deeds of his predecessor and has turned his regime into a bastion of secrecy and whistleblower persecutionists. The ruling elite win, and we lose, when either the Republicans or the Democrats win.

  • The Oligarchs are Plotting the Weekend...   13 years 6 weeks ago

    John,

You will be part of the 50 million stupid voters that voted for Obummer twice. The very dark era (using your words) started January, 2009. The government controlled liberals that cannot act unless they are told how to act. Four more years of Obummer will destroy this country. Success will become a dirty word. Responsibility will be a dirty word.

The liberal mantra is: It is not my fault and someone successful should pay for my lack of success. It is just disgusting. Liberals want everything given to them. No need to make an effort. That is the union mentality.

Wake up, do you really think there will be any change in the illegal practices from either side? And, do really think it is only those big bad Republicans that are breaking the law! I am all in favor for cleaning up the mess in Washington and the way both sides use shady practices to win their all mighty an self-righteous campaigns to protect the people! Ha! Do you really think the Dems want to change anything in the way they raise funding for their candidates, hell no. Until we clean out and clean up both sides of the isle in Washington, nothing will ever change. Is it not true, President Obama is also accepting money from the same bankster gangsters on Wall St. as Gov. Romney. The answer to the question my friends is yes....Is it okay because they are called Democrats and the good guys. I am tired and sick of saying I will vote for the lesser of two evils, when it comes to choosing between the two parties we are stuck with. Time for change no matter what the cost.....And I think we had all better wake up and see this two party system we keep voting for is sick with disease and political corruption and it is time to put it too rest. We as Americans keep thinking one side is good and the other side is bad, when they are both corrupt. So just keep blaming the other side for this countries ill and we will just continue to flail in our sickness with no clear solution in site. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. The only solution is changing Washington as a whole, not just one party. Good luck in healing America with a new election of the same old sick parties.

  • The Oligarchs are Plotting the Weekend...   13 years 6 weeks ago

Obama wounldn't know the truth if it hit him in the head. The man is a product of government upbringing. He has real view of this country. Everything he owns has been bought and paid for by government. Romney has a past liberals can poke holes in. Obummer has no past. He has done nothing his entire life. the only hope for this country is to get him out of office. $20 plus TRILLION in debt by 2016 with Obummer at the helm. Just about $300,000 per family of four. Liberals complain about student loan debt and evil credit card companies. You did NOT have to borrow for college or use credit cards to live. I have no way to limit my share of the national debt with Obummer in charge. He just keeps using my credit card to buy votes. Welcome to Greece, Spain, Cyprus, etc. The spiral down is picking up speed.

  • The Oligarchs are Plotting the Weekend...   13 years 6 weeks ago

Some things are so important that you have to try everything you can to right the wrong (Obummer). This election is important. Four more years of Obummer will not just destroy US exceptionalism, it will bring us below mediocrity. The unioning-down of America. No reason to make an effort, someone else will provide.

  • The Oligarchs are Plotting the Weekend...   13 years 6 weeks ago

If you want this country to succeed, we need to do whatever we can to un-elect Obummer. He dragging this country faster than any other president, except maybe Carter. Obummer has no substance. The man has not worked a real day in his life. He has lived off of government. He believes in just GIVING people happiness. The phrase is "life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness". There are no guarantees. You should be required to make an effort to achieve happiness. Progressives just want it given to them, paid for by someone else who made an effort. Progressiveness would be funny if it was not so sad.

It sure would be a breath of fresh air to have an Attorney General look into anything these days that we already know is corrupt.

Nevertheless these maligned Kochs hail and were generated from the days of Prescott Bush. Plus, they were not before Brown Brothers & Harriman or G.H. Walker & Co. who keep a hideous secret in the vault of Mercantile Trust.

Everything from the Kennedy assassination to the present has been manipulated by Bush- represented oilmen. It's amazing how much is covered up about those presidents who mess up my beautiful mind.

We still need a Fleet Enema on State Street, and that being in Romney's home state, my wager is he gets a lot of bad dough from NAVL & Co. (includes Pepsico + Norfolk Southern), through the Cayman Islands.

  • Should Antonin Scalia be impeached for a lack integrity and impartiality on the High Court?   13 years 6 weeks ago

Thomas should be impeached along with Scalia but it will never happen. With over 30 Democrats getting ready to vote with Republicans to censure Attorney General Holder because they fear reprecussions from the NRA, I have a better chance of finding a job, and at my age I probably never will, than Congress impeaching either one of these two judicial hooligans.

  • Should Antonin Scalia be impeached for a lack integrity and impartiality on the High Court?   13 years 6 weeks ago

I don't agree with a lot of positions Scalia takes. But his presence on the court and the positions he voices are part of the way the system has to work. I really don't like the implications of the Citizens United decision. But, upon reading both the ruling and the dissents, I opine that the decision was Constitutionally correct. We mustfix this nonsense with an appropriate amendment ASAP!

  • The US Chamber of Commerce is under investigation   13 years 6 weeks ago

YES!!! About time. Then get ALEC and the Koch Brothers SuperPac and the rest of them. The SCOTUS is as corrupt as they come. Obama needs to "cleanse" this country of the New Right and Give us our Country BACK!!!!
