Tarheelnm this is so true it's the beliefs that create behaviours ,it's so ironic that you have everyday folks going against there own self interests and that of there children.The very people we have put our trust in are undermining us we have the blind leading the blind.
The problem is we have a disease care system not a preventative system ,we spend 9 tenths of the money managing diseases and 1 tenth preventing them ,it would help if we reversed these numbers and not deny that profit motive is the cause !
It's the same here in the uk we have unelected archbishops in the house of lords making laws that are based on thousand of year old beliefs and we wonder why the human race is evolving at a snails pace.If we want the world to change the fastest way is change our beliefs ,this is the fast track to evolution as beliefs create behaviours .The first belief to change is that we are separate from each other and life/god ,we are all one the second belief that we could do well to change is that there is not enough to go around,there is always enough all we have to do is share and share alike.

We need to educate our elders to take care of the earth ,ask older adults to stop depleting fossil fuels and further polluting the atmosphere ,they do not have to do this ,solar power is the obvious solution to this!!
The earths temperature has to be monitored to keep within range for life to thrive and for it to remain the paradise that it is !!
The forests have to be preserved ,you can have all the newspaper you want from growing a small plant(HEMP),the present older generation is destroying the planet and its own oxygen creation-and -purification system for no reason at all,ask the older generation to keep the water pure,and stop using so much of it .Give the Earth a chance to replenish itself.Incredible stress is being placed on our natural systems .
Our nutrient- rich top soil is almost gone .Corporate farming groups refuse to rotate crops or give growing fields a chance to reconstitute themselves .So they put chemicals into the soil to try to do the job of nature.Humans are chemicalizing themselves to death.
The young people have a right to know what is going on and a right for the human soul of humanity to change any governance that is not producing the highest outcomes that serve life as PRIME VALUE AND SUSTAIN LIFE INTO THE FUTURE until the seventh generation.

I will take us taking the House back and getting rid of the philibuster. Then overturning Citizens United.

“Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”
Opponents of the Affordable Care Act (or Obama Care to the tea-party and free market zealots) are apoplectic that someone, especially “the Government,” should force them to do anything. They believe it violates their constitutional rights if the “Government” should require them to purchase health insurance, ignoring the fact that for generations, we’ve required individuals, businesses and institutions to purchase automobile liability, workers compensation and other forms of insurances.
Our founding fathers and the framers of our constitution could not possibly have foreseen the complexity of our society today, the 50 million Americans without health care or the hundreds of hospitals on the verge of bankruptcy because they must treat for free, millions of sick folks who flood their emergency rooms 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Nor could they have contemplated the burden on the taxpayers who must ultimately pay the interest on those unpaid costs.
The Republican’s criticize the President for wasting too much time and effort on getting the Affordable Care Act signed into law, instead of dealing early on with unemployment and the national debt; again conveniently ignoring the fact that a large portion of that debt is caused by our dysfunctional health care system and also that a cornerstone of the Act is it’s provisions designed to help control runaway health care costs and enhance preventative medical care. The Republican’s have had no plan of their own, other than their business as usual doctrine of tacking closely with the insurance industry; but that approach is thoroughly indefensible.
And of course for the last 30 plus years, corporate leaders joined at the hip by Republican apologists throughout the country have disowned our working class and preached from the mountain tops that the reason they were closing almost 50,000 factories and exporting those good paying manufacturing jobs was because of the generous and untenable benefits paid to our middle class working men and women. We’ve heard for decades that the American auto industry can’t compete when the average legacy costs for each American made auto was more than $1,500, compared to a small fraction of what it is in Mexico, Korea or China. But is that what America has become; a society that will build things but only as long as the workers are willing to forsake the benefits the American worker has fought and died for over the last century?
So in order to level the playing field a bit, President Obama and critical thinking Democratic Congressmen and women realized early on that if we’re going to create living wage jobs for hardworking Americans, they would have to first tackle our health care problems. They believed that if American manufacturers were not burdened with unpredictable and ballooning health care costs, they could more easily compete with the rest of the industrialized world and consequently bring back those good paying manufacturing jobs.
But the Republican’s pledged, soon after President Obama was sworn in, to do everything they could to keep him from being reelected by obstructing every one of his and the Democrats efforts to pull us out of the depression era financial collapse and debt crisis, which the Republicans created, by disregarding and watering down financial industry regulations, giving unnecessary and unneeded tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and waging two unnecessary and unfunded wars.
Their single minded campaign to overturn the Affordable Care Act and obstruct the President at every opportunity during the last three and a half years, has stymied America’s fiscal recovery and brought us to the edge of the cliff, wondering whether a majority of our Supreme Court will cling to their ultra conservative ideology or side with the 50 million Americans without health care and the 36 to 112 million Americans with pre-existing conditions who couldn’t afford or even find any form of health care if insurance companies had their way.
Will the Supreme Court side with the special interests that have funded these attacks on the Act and the President and his party’s attempts to begin removing the albatross around the neck of America’s recovery and prosperity or with the 13.7 million young American’s between 18 and 25 who are now able to remain on their parent’s insurance policies until they’re 26 years of age.
Will the Court side with the tea party crowd that has commandeered the Grand Old Party or with a large number of the 65% of America’s prison population who have some mental health issue and who might not have even been institutionalized (at $50,000 per year) had they had medical insurance and the specialized care they desperately needed. Our prisons are not equipped and their employees are not trained to care properly for these mentally ill inmates. And taxpayers should not have to pay for their expensive incarceration because even the best of the mental health care provisions of health insurance policies cover only 65% or less of the costs of mental health care, if at all. The Affordable Care Act strengthens mental health coverage for all.
Will the Court side with the libertarians who firmly believe they are not their brothers or sisters keeper or with the tens of millions of working poor who can’t afford health care insurance even if it were available.
Will they side with the insurance companies who skim more than 30% off the top of America’s astronomical health care expenditures (which is 50% more per person than virtually all industrialized nations) or with the 86 million people who have already received free preventive care, the 105 million people who no longer face a lifetime cap on benefits and the 17 million children who already cannot be denied coverage due to preexisting conditions.
These new tea-party controlled Republican members of Congress are adamant that no part of President Obama’s health care act should survive the Supreme Court’s decision. Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa sums up their ideology when he stated last month that “I don’t want any vestige of Obamacare left in law,” “Not one particle of DNA.” Will the Affordable Care Act survive if the individual mandate is struck down or is it in jeopardy of collapsing, as the Republican’s pray, because the mandate is what makes the law affordable? Will the Supreme Court side with these uncompromising neo-con’s or with the tens of millions of hard working American’s who have fallen out of the middle class
Should our Supreme Court even choose or be allowed to rule on such a consequential law written by an elected Congress that struggled for decades to reach a hard fought acceptable compromise that finally passed through both houses of Congress and was then signed into law. Do they have an inkling of what it took for President Obama and the Democrats to accomplish this feat over the monumental obstruction from special interests and their congressional minions?
Do you think any of the Justices ever had to worry about paying for health care for themselves or a sick family member? Thanks to the American taxpayer and our socially democratic form of government, they have one of, if not the best, health care insurance in the world and will have that insurance until the day they die.
Do you think any of the justices have had to sit with a gravely ill or injured family member or child at the emergency room hoping and praying that they will be taken care of instead of just being patched up and shunted off to fend for themselves, by a hospital struggling to keep its doors open?
Do you think any of the Justices or their loved ones have ever been denied hospital care and admission for mental health issues because they had no health insurance and the hospital claimed they had no available room and just shipped them off to a state run mental institution?
Do you think all of the justices can sympathize with the parents of chronically sick children that kneeled on the steps of the Supreme Court during oral arguments praying for divine intervention?
European and many other countries believe it’s obscene that we allow Americans to be forced into bankruptcy and lose their homes and wealth because of catastrophic health care expenses. Here in Illinois, our governor just signed a bill booting 25,000 poor working Americans off of Medicaid. And many other states have or are contemplating similar belt tightening legislation.
The Affordable Care Act is not perfect but it’s a start on the road to the universal health care system America needs in order to remain a world leader. A healthy America is a vibrant America. I don’t have an ax to grind when it comes to health care or medical insurance. Fortunately I’m (knock wood) very healthy. I don’t take any medications and I’m old enough to qualify for Medicare. I worked hard in the trades for more than forty years and earned supplemental insurance from my past employer, for which I pay affordable subsidized premiums. And if I need routine exams or prescriptions I can go to the V.A. after serving my country for 3 years. But not all Americans are so blessed. I believe health care for all human beings is a right, not a luxury only the rich can afford. I believe health care for all is necessary for the “Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” principal embodied in our Declaration of Independence. That Declaration was drafted by Thomas Jefferson and passed by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, exactly 236 years ago. Maybe our Supreme Court will do what’s best for America for our nation’s upcoming anniversary. They should ask themselves, what would Thomas Jefferson do if he were here today?
I believe we should have long ago implemented a universal, single payer health care system like much of the civilized world. But there are more than a hundred million Americans who desperately need this mediocre token of what America really needs and deserves. Considering the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, I don’t hold much hope for a “just” decision that’s in the best interests of all Americans; but hope springs eternal. Last week, Sen. John McCain, one of the architects, together with Sen. Russ Feingold, of the 2002 campaign finance law limiting donations to candidates, commented on that Citizens United decision. “I wish one of them had run for County Sheriff” he said of the Justices. Well I think many American’s wish the 4 or 5 most conservative Justices had, at one time or another, lost their health care insurance, been at the mercy of an uncaring and unbending insurance company or had been on the verge of loosing everything they owned because of a catastrophic illness. They wish those Justices had found it necessary to go to a banker, hat in hand, asking for financing to get back on their feet after their credit was destroyed by overwhelming medical expenses. They wish the Justices would try to put themselves in their shoes, as the highest court in the land routinely used to do.

Maybe America should have invaded Washington DC ... since 911 was really a Neocon creation (ie: an inside job). We could have called it "Operation Red Dawn" where the average citizen ousts the infiltrators (the cabal of wealthy connivers who needed a "new Pearl Harbor" in order to scare us out of our freedoms) who are committing criminal acts of treason against us.
I know a lot of xenophobes love to pin this all on Muslim Arabs, one way or another, if it isn't Afghanistan, or Iraq, or Iran, it has to be Saudi Arabia. And, I agree that this last one, and Pakistan (the ISI), have a lot more participation (at the direction of the US insiders that planned it all) in 911 than any of those previously mentioned countries.
And it is not the "countries", or the "people" of those countries, that should have to take the blame and suffer the consequences, for what their wealthy and powerful leaders and supporters have done. Instead of invading some country, and murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, who had nothing to do with any of it, we should be arresting and imprisoning the real culprits, in positions of power in our own country, who were behind the atrocities.
Of course, if we still put our faith in a crooked system composed of an economic elite that uses both the Republican and Democrat icons as the smoke-and-mirrors distraction then we will continue down the same road to total ruin and subjugation as much of the rest of the world that has also used this (faux) democracy ploy. But many of these countries have rebelled against the ruling elite in ways that worked more effectively than believing in Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and "democracy" from an entrenched and corrupt two-party system. The only real change, around the world, has been when the people got violently obsessed with throwing the lying bums out and putting people into those official positions that have been a great bane to the ruling elite class who previously exploited the masses.
I agree with JohnLemessurier in the belief that the majority of the Democrats who voted for the bill knew full well that the bill would not pass...which is largely the reason why they voted for it. They are putting on a show for their "flocks" while the ruling elite keep their puppet politicians fully at the ends of their strings. The whole process is rigged to favor those who owns Congress...with the exception, of course, of a few. It is a great show put on to make the world, and the US citizens, believe that they actually have a say in how we are governed and so that they don't do as they have done in other countries...rise up and strike back at the wealthy ruling classes. Too bad we have to wait until we are so weakened by our enemies, and things get so bad, that we would be less effective at correcting the system. Stop believing in fairy tales (like voting for Democrats will change things) and move, en masse, against the crooked two-party system...throw the bums out..Republican and Democrat. Think of it this way...if you reelect Obama...you will get more of the same ineffective government we had last four years. If Romney wins...so much the better for total revolution...on the Republicans watch. We could paint ourselves up as Indians and blame it on them. Romney should appreciate that! We wouldn't want the revolution to happen on Obama's watch would we...well...why not.
Most of these politicians, Republicans or Democrats, are part of the ruling elite...at least at heart...and they have wheedled their way into being able to enrich themselves monetarily by working the system that both favors their wealthy puppet-masters and themselves but are screwing most Americans.
If their monetary interests are more in align with Wall Street Banksters, how can they legislate the rest of us fairly?
Yes, I know they finally signed into law a bill that would regulate or prevent members of Congress from profiting from "insider information" or legislating on behalf of companies where they have "invested" interests. But as with our tax code, there are always loop-holes they engineer into it to make sure that the elite can slip through.
If we Could get corporations out of gov't, it would take us 5 years - max - to replace our reliance on oil with green energy. Other major countries have done it and I believe we can do it, too. Reinstate tax credits for solar, wind power and let homeowners install and use. Let us sell energy back to the grid. Towns in Ontario, Canada make a LOT of $$ selling back energy and share the profits. We can actually MAKE $$ using green energy. Corporations cry it'll break them to turn green - BS...Heinz did it and make $$ as have other corporations. Exxon, etc are bigger than our gov't...so, a more appopriate question would be....How long will it take to rid our gov't of Big Corporations influence and lobbying.

When Mr. Hartmann said in one of his radio broadcasts, and be sure this is not an exact quote, my thoughts have drifted since, but Mr. Hartmann said something to the tune that many members of the Supreme Court should be relieved or impeached, or from my view indicted for reasonable cause as failed to support the Constitution rather than to pander to their political party. For me it was a "WTF moment", totally agree, at least half of the Supreme Court should be relieved especially after the 2000 election decision, that delivered George Wahhabi Bush to president. Motivated by politics and not by law, and now with this money and free speech being the same? More over America is starting to struggle with the ideal 911 was recognized as a plan with the door held open. A huge opportunity for profiteering by both political parties that manifest all kinds of cultural distortions likely encouraged by Wahhabi money via bribes and swindling. The Arab family closely tied to the Bush family succeeded to create havoc right in our own back yard, yes a vary tied relation expanding family wealth for Cheney and Bush over decades. Coupled with the torture as in water boarding falls in the same category as Chinese water torture invented in the 13th century by an Italian according to wiki if that's true its a shame and a guilt the only way to resolve is by pardon or conviction for Cheney and Bush. American Journalism is bought off and as corrupt as hell by not digging in that simple fact and to the finances involved in this banking scam stuff that have opened the American century. As long as Americans of intellect money in high positions continue to refuse to recognize this paradigm shift as wrong and that it is connected to a deep seated plan to destroy America with oil by Persian Arab money paid through swindling, bribing, predator banking, toxic assets, dysfunctional stock market, secret derivative trading, bankruptcy as a natural resolution, and our Republican party Fox news completely absorbed in century old hate ranting by Babylon Balder dashing, America is stuck in a down ward spiral. I am a veteran of Vietnam and see the repeat of corruption and it is worse in these two wars , Iraq, and Afghanistan are nothing but political profiteering. Bush, at ground zero, Bush in his Bully pulpit, Bull horn bugle boy playing, trumpeting reveille, telling America we will smoke em out will get them. It is so obvious the Arabs frightened fled the American continent via Florida, and records scrubbed. If anything all training and all military aid to Arabs should stop immediately. It really is ass backwards where nineteen men in the 911 hyjack where Arabs, America should have invaded Arabia. So those in the know likely suggest that perhaps invading Arabia would have driven America and the world into a Depression. Well, according to Paul Krugman, that is where America is at now. Not a recession it is a Depression. With out oil. But the Keystone Pipeline geared to export oil. Sheesh, what a mess. And it is not Obama's fault and Obama did not make it worse. Americans should know or be refreshed that our auto industry is the backbone of our military, GM Ford and Chrysler motors drive the military. The Republicans know very well it was stupid to even consider a bankruptcy, God the world is really screwed up and they say it is Obama's fault, no way, They the Republicans brought us here via the mainstream media.

In addition to the blog question, I'm going to mention how I plan to run exposure ads in our local circulars regarding his yes votes on the Ryan budget plan. I'll ask his office for a donation to help pay for the ads, after all I'm sure he must be proud of his actions, and desires to inform his constituents of this, "fiscally responsible plan."
The RYAN PLAN is the REPUBLICAN ACHILLES HEAL without a doubt....we need to get the word out to all the foxmerized citizens before November.
Wouldn't you think given the high unemployment rate Thom's blog would be headline news? Imagine if it had it been the Democrats voting this down. It reminds me of what Turtleman and the Senate Republicans did a while back....they made damn sure guys like Romney continued to get tax breaks to ship jobs out of the country. Of course Democrats wanted to end this insanity, and of course our corp. mass media could see no need to report on any of it......because it's owned or supported by the same scoundrels that own the Tea-publican party.
The Republican congress has the gaul to vote like this because they fully realize "Joe the Average Citizen," will never hear about it.....only ROVE commercials a few days before the election.

I never in a million years would have thought it, but then again maybe i did. it hit me the other night. the old gaurd? Were the WI, WII and dpression generation wrought from dust to build the American industrial revolution and a country built on unity, honor and respect. Sure, there were quirks and quagmires and a lot of other jive mixed in for good measure, but.... The new gaurd? The offspring of the old, scarce few that out of dust have come let alone gone and spent any time in a blood soaked war. They are the children of greed as they use to see mom and dad work and toil for a stipend. they the children of greed that might told to the self, "i'll never be like that". So, at any cost they the children of greed have now forgotten what mom and dad said. they, children of greed now rape and pilage our once great nation as the layers of golden eggs have little and get taken away from even more. But what are we egg layers to do? Boy what i would give to have a $9 hour part time call center job to sup my income with as i go in hock for a kids 100k education. A rebumlican might ask, "why are you paying for it? Suck, suck, sluurrp! My Member of Congress is the former dental hygienist for the orthodontist who wrecked my mouth forty years ago. What a laugh they must be having on all the dads in my high school who thought they were paying the best guy in town to give their kids perfect dentition.
I hardly think she wants to see or hear from me now, and if she does it will be from the other end of a panoramic x-ray.
Okay, I couldn't really vote on this the way it's stated. As a former call center agent here's my take: Some jobs will leave, some will stay, and some are already coming back. 1. People don't like talking to a foreign voice....we still have a lot of racism and prejudice to get past. 2. There are just as many call agents overseas that are willing to steal your credit card info as there are here. So it's really no safer. 3. Some of the jobs shipping out ....they can have them, like certain banking practices, excuses from insurance companies regarding health care issues, and all the nonsense and dirty dealings I would not want to be part of. 4. If corporations and conservatives have their way, we'll be making such small wages it will be worth it to bring those jobs back. Let us hope that does not come to pass.
