  • This weekend in Europe it's democracy vs. bankster austerity   13 years 8 weeks ago

I predict that - like Spain - Greece, France and the others will end up acccepting bailouts to preserve the EURO. The powerfully corrupt Bankster syndicate will offer leaders deals that "cannot be refused".The globailist cabal has gotten nearly everything on their agenda.... so far.

Russia is fighting the NWO Bankster cabal, a situation not anticipated in the Grand Chess Game of bankster, global asset theft by floating imaginary money. But don't put your trust on Putin to make things better.

The so-called "Democracy" of representative government that depends on the "growth" of ponzi capitalism is not sustainable and will most likely revert to collectivism as a second unsustainable choice.

A population of 10 billion on planet earth is probably not sustainable under the bankster's ponzi-capitalist economy.

What new paradigm can we all agree on before the Armageddon?

  • This weekend in Europe it's democracy vs. bankster austerity   13 years 8 weeks ago

Shouldn't it be....and "gamblers" around the world panic? But, how will this play out among those of us who haven't gambled? Or is putting your money in savings or checking accounts considered gambling. I guess we are gambling that the banks, or credit unions, are safer than keeping our money under our mattresses..maybe not!

By the way...Thom...what was all that horrible background noise...like an old refrigerator...on today's show? Maybe it's time for captions?

  • Exacerbated by trickle-down austerity, the Eurozone unemployment rate has risen to 10.9%   13 years 8 weeks ago

I agree that this is part of global cycle, but we should not forget that everything have a cause. In US, unemployment is still high that's why landing a full-time job can often be challenging for many. Many customers are juggling more than one part-time position to make ends meet. Here are some part-time job opportunities that pay decently. Why worry about recession? It's all about challenging ourselves on how to survive its great effect.

  • Geeky Science - Diet Sodas Goof Up Your Brain   13 years 8 weeks ago

This is so true! I quit drinking soda pop and cut as much high fructose corn syrup out of my diet as possible, which is harder than one might realize because HFCS is in just about everything. Besides the obvious health benefits and the 30 lbs that I've lost, I'm noticing that food taste better. Flavors of veggies and fruit are more vibrant than ever. Something as simple as a salad has flavors I've never tasted before exploding in my mouth. It seems as though when I was consuming sugar, HFCS and artificial sweetners everything tasted the same - sugary and sweet. Another thing that delighted me was finding out that natural sugars such as found in fruit taste sweeter and better than all those products that added sugar. I never knew what I was missing by consuming so much sugar and sweeteners. The difference is truly unbelievable. Never again will I deprive myself of these wonderful natural flavors by bathing my tongue in sugar and poisonous artificial sweeteners.

Thank you Thom for putting some science behind what I am currently experiencing.

Did you know that if you took all the electrons out of one cubic millimeter of a space shuttle's nose and put them in the launch pad, the electrical force due to that separation of charge would keep the shuttle from being able to leave the ground?

Thom, your first hour yesterday comparing the political dialogue to the evolution of a couples relationship was thought provoking. I'd say that it had some merits as far as it goes. But in politics, and indeed, in a couples relationship, whether through miscommunication or misaligned values, the only honorable thing left is divorce. And I've done both. On a personal level, when you find a partner values you only because of your function and not because of what is unique to you, divorce is the only honorable thing to do. On the political front, several issues, in my mind make compromise with the republicans/conservatives impossible. After I read Corey Robin's book "The Reactionary Mind", I realized that hierarchy is at the core of the conservative mind set. It is the basis of racism, or Darwinian economics. It is how they view the world because they have no other yardstick with which to measure the success/failure of their lives. This viewpoint is incompatible with equality and democracy and is fundamentally, I believe, a sociopath view of life. Secondly, not believing the science of climate change renders, over time, their political arguments null and void. This is why I believe that divorce is the only honorable position to take with the republicans. I think you mentions Louise wants two countries; I'm with her. No amount of argument/persuasion are going to change conservative thought on these issues. Only the passage of time will. Sometimes its just best to "cut bait".

  • Will Banksters, like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase, ever be held accountable for their part in crashing of the economy?   13 years 8 weeks ago

If the people get out there against the banksters - anything would/could be possible. The People need to get a BACKBONE and stand up to all who are trying so hard to crash our economy - I mean REALLY get out there and stand up in numbers - fight for what you beleive in - don't cower down and say "oh there is nothing we can do" ---THAT is how they get aways with this crap!

NOTHING - nothing is impossible when everyone gets involved.

Federally mandated air oxidizers help air quality. Federally mandated air oxidizers get the same car{from the US} with the same engine{from the UK} exactly HALF the gas mileage thus using twice the fuel. Air quality is being used against THE PEOPLE. Climate change is obviosly real but coomon sense might happen too little too late.

Im curious what will happen first. Tibetan platue and Greenland melting causing freshwater to stop the oceans currents or the oceans ph levels going to the point of no return in less than 75 years{popular science}.

  • The United States ranks 88th on the Global Peace Index   13 years 8 weeks ago

It figures a socialist country is the most peaceful and most likely one of the happiest!

I wonder, if the Global Peace Index included white collar crime....... in our case the banksters on Wall Street........ would the US have ended up 158th?

Criminal acts of financial fraud leading to loss of jobs, homes, and hard earned retirement savings....Mitt!..... are all QUITE VIOLENT to society as a whole. Certainly the prison population component of the index would skyrocket for the US if white collar criminals like Romney and Rick Scott actually served time.

I've heard it said, Romney violated no laws. For those who believe this, ask the victims what they think!

  • The United States ranks 88th on the Global Peace Index   13 years 8 weeks ago

I think the idea of the enemy within has been around for a long time; it probably was during the McCarthy era. But now I think it has happened--or just about.

But think of the uprisings in the Middle East and in Russia and other countries, protesting even in the face of death. We may have to be ready to do that. But I believe the light of freedom and democracy will always burn within us, especially the countries that have experienced it.

I am disappointed that the Occupy movement is so quiet. I have heard nothing so far this spring and summer.

I am not sure they are "little civil wars." I am not sure what you're referring to, but our rights are eroding by the day. I am horrified that Obama is carrying out these curbs on our liberties--and more--but I know Romney would be much worse.

America's "progressive" Hartmann liberals are absolutely clueless as to why America MovesOn further Right with every election.

    A) Whenever the (R) faction of the corporate party has more BIG money than its (D) faction, the liberals then bitch and moan about there being too much money in elections, but they've never had any problem with the corporate party's Democrats using BIG money to exterminate people's candidates.

REALITY: Bigger Money keeps winning bigger with every election held because near everyone voting has been robo-voting exclusively for the corporate (R) & (D) party's money manufactured candidates. But, of course, voting stupid is "intelligent" when liberals do it. The "intelligent" liberal answer to too much money in elections now is to pressure millions of natural persons to contribute small donations to match the multi-million dollar payments made by corporate persons to purchase the devious Democrats the corporate entities use as weapons of mass deception. There's so many tens of millions of those "intelligent" liberals that sense has clearly become an uncommon commodity.

    B) Liberals claim the corporate media's PBS and NPR are actually "fair-and-balanced" providing "complete in-depth news."

REALITY: Although the Propaganda Broadcasting System and National Propaganda Radio regularly respectfully provide opportunities for the Koch family's CATO institute to express its corporate persons' policy positions, they've never invited anyone from the Green Institute to advocate for policies in the interest of natural persons and Nature; and they restrict their campaign reporting to coverage of the corporate (R) & (D) party's really retrograde Republicans and deeply depraved Democrats... effectively disappearing all the good honest people's candidates.

    C) Having chronic amnesia, "progressives" claim that Democrats will get good done if they're only given a majority again, conveniently forgetting that the corporate party's Democrats did not do the good they could have when they had the House, Senate and POTUS too.

REALITY: When the corporate party's Republicans have majorities they quickly and aggressively get done whatever crude shit they possibly can that the corporate persons want done; and when the corporate party's Democrats have majorities they passive aggressively get done — with a "nuanced approach" — whatever evil shit the corporate persons still want done that the Democrats' Republican partners couldn't get done.

Obama has out Bushed Bush, yet the "progressive" liberals are still corporate obedient Democrats.

The "progressives" are the liberals who keep voting for the corporate party's Democrats so they can keep protesting against what they keep voting for.

  • Is President Obama drinking the Thomas Friedman, one world, so-called "Free Trade" Kool-Aid?   13 years 8 weeks ago

Barry will never move to the left unless liberals force him to. If we don't, if we fail to move the DNC back to the left where it belongs, then we fail america, and cannot be surprised at its downfall.

  • Is President Obama drinking the Thomas Friedman, one world, so-called "Free Trade" Kool-Aid?   13 years 8 weeks ago

what we need to do is show Barry that we liberals are willing to endure a Romney presidency in order to force Barry and the DNC back to the left where they belong, and where america needs them. We need to show him that we will indeed stay home in November, or vote third party unless he changes into a real liberal. Again, what's the difference between a little fascism and alot of fascism? Not much.

  • Is President Obama drinking the Thomas Friedman, one world, so-called "Free Trade" Kool-Aid?   13 years 8 weeks ago

Remember what Truman said, when given the choice between a real republican and a fake republican, the people will choose the real one every time.

Barry still lives under the false delusion that he was elected because of his policy stances. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was elected because he wasn't George Bush.

  • Will Banksters, like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase, ever be held accountable for their part in crashing of the economy?   13 years 8 weeks ago

This Congress does not believe the Banksters did anything wrong. And new Congresses, or POTUSes, don't like to act retroactively.

Big Money and Big Biz have filled the Peoples' void in our democracy. We, Americans, have the lowest Voter turnout. While turnout for the Bigs is 100%! WTF do you/we expect?! Hmmmmm?

  • Will Banksters, like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase, ever be held accountable for their part in crashing of the economy?   13 years 8 weeks ago

I agree with Dianhow's pessimism, except that bigotry and lack of critical thinking don't seem to me to be age (or schoolin) related. After decades of commercial demaggogery on the mass media, it may not matter what was or was not taught in school. We gave the media away during Reagan-Clinton, and now the vast majority of the US gets nothing but Religion, Country or Rabid-Right-Rants. Driving cross country, other than NPR/PBS there's nothing resembling "fair-and-ballanced (and complete in-depth) news.

And, like Citizens United, the Left has done nothing to rectify this imbalance -- other than solicit more minor contributions from the Frustrated-Faithful.

  • The United States ranks 88th on the Global Peace Index   13 years 8 weeks ago

When Eisenhower issued his warning, Americans believed the hard times were over. It was the Happy Days- no Dust Bowls, no polio, no ration tickets, no A-Bombs. What a relief! It was time for Tiki Bars, daiquiris, bikinis and swinging. The horror of the sixties assassinations took us by surprise and commenced a national depression of the spirit which easily degenerated into widespread addiction to more and more substances, legal and illegal. It doesn't matter since the top holders in cigarettes, opium, sugar and alcohol are the same outfit. They are also the top of the arms dealing heap.

We were led astray with credit mongers who drove us mad with consumerism. Caught in the mousetrap! Now the stresses of daily existence are compounding for so much of American society that we are fighting little civil wars about every aspect of what kind of country this should be.

I forget who the person was who said we would be taken over from within. I feel certain this has happened completely, evidenced by the ongoing acts of organized financial terrorism which have caused masses of citizens to lose their homesteads, benefitis, pensions, and basic security. We are being attacked and depleted more rapidly than the DOJ can protect us.

All of us can't afford our surgeries we need and medicines, but I haven't heard much said yet about what happens when we can't afford the food anymore. I feel that once completely exploited of its resources the United States is slated to become the landfill for the rest of the world, another Haiti for the 700 Princes of Liechentstein. Perhaps the White House and certain resort locations will be preserved.

OK, I was being a bit pessismistic when I voted no, but that's the way the cookie crumbles today. As for tomorrow or next year? Who knows. If the Democrats get control in 2013 they may grow a pair and really go after these guys. Time will tell.

NO Lobbyists & Corp America DO own Congress ! Until lobbyists are gone we have little to hope for . Citizens United money is buying elections and judges. Too many voters do not realize how dangerous this is. They just hate Obama.. foreign Kenyan Muslim whatever they believe. Its hurts to know US has so many ignorant people that loyally follow Fox Rush Hannity and do not question if they are truthful.. America has been dumbed down so badly. When I went to puiblic school in 50's we got a great education. Now education is last on Miits list if its on the list at all. .

I'm troubled at the concept of an economic fix that depends on increased spending. One of the giant issues of the day is earth degradation related to high-consumption lifestyles. This does not mean we never replace old products with new, but it means we've got to shift to maximum "renew, reuse, and repair" for the sake of earth-care.

I like Dr. Batri's interest rate proposal - it can only help and should be step #1 re "usury regulation".

But I fully agree also with the caller who questions length of work week. Automation has replaced many jobs and will replace more. People can develop other talents and interests, and spend more time in family/community activities with reduced work hours. More people can participate in the economy with reduced (shared) work hours. Some earth-care practices such as dismantling buildings to re-use materials, can best be done by hand - more employment, and this time "labor" should be viewed as a major contribution, with good pay instead of subject to our current disdain for "laboring" tasks! IMO, we must definitely look at how we allocate work opportunities and type of work!

Re "couples counseling". I'm in the camp of callers who probably will vote for Obama but with such strong reservations that I'd prefer a write in as part of a grass roots "protest vote". For instance, I've wondered if writing in "Occupy" might not send a meaningful message (but it would only be effective, if at all, if it were nation wide.)

After much study, observation, and analysis - I'm afraid I can only conclude that Obama is "a corporatist". He may be less ruthless than other corporatists on some counts, but I wonder if his "empathy" for ordinary folks isn't more intellectual than real. I'm not sure he'd recognize the distinction - might easily believe he truly "gets it" on what's happening to American people. And I think "at heart" he *means* for it be real. But I wonder ... something simply doesn't seem to compute.

Obama is, afterall, a product of the late 20thC, when the corporate decision-making model was used everywhere - in government, in school districts, etc. Effeciency - "rationalizing and downsizing for efficiency's sake" - were the order of the day. Even "personal achievement wisdom" promoted careerism, emphasized ways to increase personal wealth as evidence of "success". It seems maybe Obama's experience has shown him this approach works. Even drones and other global power-plays seem in line with what I am calling "corporatism" as a *style*, a *system*, of operation.

Sometimes it seems Obama "sides" with mega-corporate interests because in some way he deeply admires their success as per widely accepted and promoted attitudes and beliefs of the late 20thC. It's increasingly difficult to believe he's "only doing what he has to do to get a bit of valuable work done." Amy Goodman's interveiw today re the Trans-Pacific Partner's trade agreement seems yet another compelling "hint" that Obama is at heart a corporatist.

    ... just sharing ... Thanks.

  • Is President Obama drinking the Thomas Friedman, one world, so-called "Free Trade" Kool-Aid?   13 years 8 weeks ago

Obama's example of someone in a restaurant splurging on steak and martinis (the Republican Party) then leaving the bill to be paid by someone else (the Democrats) just entering the restaurant to pick up the tab and then the steak and martini people (the Republicans) now trying to blame the newcomers (the Democrats) for the excesses just isn't quite true. Had Obama's regime (the Democrats) been frugal then that would have been a good analogy. But, the Democrats have played right along and had their Steak and Martinis as well. Not much has changed by the Democrats. They continued the wasteful spending...largely the extremely wasteful military operations in the Middle East. They continued letting the Bush tax breaks for the rich continue. Obama's regime, instead of being open and welcoming of whistleblowers, have become more secretive and condemning of whistleblowers. They continued the imprisonment and torture of prisoners in America's concentration camps in Guantanamo and elsewhere. And they continue to murder thousands of innocent civilians with missle launching drones. Obama and the Democrats and Republicans are mass murderers. Which mass murderer do you want to have for your next president? And Romney is just itching to be the next one. He will likely be even worse than Obama.

If people can use the "coward" word against the alleged 911 hijackers (even though they were brave..or crazy..enough to die themselves for their cause..that is if they weren't tricked into being patsies) then we can use the "coward" and "war criminal" words to describe a US President for continuing these atrocious crimes of murdering innocent civilians in the Middle East. Obama is not John Wayne...Obama is a "Coward" and and a "War Criminal" just like his predecessor, Bush!

And the Jamie Dimon "grilling" on Capital (intentional misspelling 'Capitol' because it fits) Hill was such an embarrassment. What bought off pansies our "representatives" are. What, something like 16 of the 22 representatives are heavily funded by Dimon's criminal outfit? "Gee, Mr. Dimon, Sir, your highness, would you please tell us how we can further assist you in ripping off the American people?"

And lastly, on the Alyona show today (6-14-12) they said that among people under 30 in the US there has been a 15% decrease in the number of people who believe in God. Maybe they have switched their allegiances to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It will take a while longer, but eventually, as people learn more about science, and horny priests and preachers, atheism will rule the world. Thank God! Right on, Jenny Churchill, for your remarks.

It's almost sad to hear Thom talking to the presidents campaign director in the classic old democratic tone of "well, we may not be liberal as you want, but we're not the jerks that the republicans are".

Is that your best argument? For over 30 years the republican party has pulled the democrats over to the right. So much so that a sitting democrat is not only ordering the assassination of american citizens (and other innocents) but now permitting the drone based surveillance of potentially every american.

When the fourth amendment falls, they will all fall. It is the lynchpin of the bill of rights.

Here is what liberals need to do. When the president steps out to make his acceptance speech in Charlotte, he should look out abd see a half full stadium. We need to show him that we are willing to endure a Romney presidency in order to pull him back over to the left. This nation cannot afford 4 more years of a wishy-washy center-right democrat. What's the difference between a little fascism and alot of fascism? Barack Obama will only be liberal if we hold him and the democratic party hostage. It's our duty as americans to so.
