I'd start with "Rick who?" But then I remember what happened in the lands of constant religion and also a land and its people that during the 20's and thirties grew into a want all nation...with a leader who fed that want. He kept on telling his people what they wanted to hear.
Why is it that when Republican leaders speak out against what they say is wrong, they themselves are doing the wrong and twist and blame that wrong on to others who are very far from that wrong.
To me, I think their merry-go-round travels so fast that, while trying to convince everyone that they are all knowing, they run into their own rear ends.
You'll learn it..... you just need time....
The Christian-conservative German social welfare system already works. It was created by the Christian-conservative Adenauer government, and is still working under Merkel. German Christian-conservative social welfare, doing a swell job for the neighbor (recommended by Jesus) works and works and works -- since many decades. And still Germany is a strong economy.

Beatitudes: A "Godless" Jesus?
Santorum believes America is a Christian nation. He wants to codify into law sections of bible that he believes should be part of our moral character. He is for theocracy not democracy. I know many Chrisitians in America who think just like him. One friend told me that the Christian Bible is more important than the United States Constitution. He told me that the laws in the Bible ought to take precedence over the Constitution. He said that the founders of the nation, all of them, were Christians and what they were doing was starting America as a Christian nation. I know that he believed everything he told me. He is a lay minister in his church. I know that he tells the members of his church the same as he told me. There is no curse greater than pure ignorance. Uneducated and misinformed people in the Republican Party believe in their hearts that America is and should always be a Christian nation. When I asked my friend which Christian church is the "correct" church, he told me that his way. When I explained that what about the other Christian churches that had other ways of understanding the Bible, he brushed it off saying, that his church had it right. The other churches he said were just wrong. When I told him that the words Jesus Christ and christianity are found nowhere in the Constitution, his response was that it was unnecessary because it was understood that Jesus is God. I love it when these Chrisitians have a ready answer for every question. I am not a Christian. I was born and raised in the United States. Should such a person as I am remain a citizen with the power to vote? I think that Santorum would take away my voting rights unless I agreed to pray to his God.
Arrogance is not a Christian quality so there can be no such thing as an arrogant Christian.

I liked thom's show today talking about the college thing. pretty scary the direction the country is heading. makes me sorry i couldn't afford to have a hundred kids. If the 2 i do have are as intelligent as they are it would have been nice to have a hundred at least that way i know there are at least a hundred chances more to affect intelligent change!lolol
The most appalling part of Santorum's stand is that some people will actually vote for him.

The HSUS gets most donations aimed at animal rescue. Most people don't know that they support only one shelter. They would like to keep people from keeping pets. That ad was certainly not a good thing but the HSUS is not an organization that should be supported by animal lovers.

I must be threatening to your leftist propaganda machine. You’re fishing, …. but I will happily tell you, and I am proud to say, I have never collected welfare or unemployment. And I came from a broken family and was on my own at 15. I survived by working hard and creating my own opportunities. Not sitting on my ass demanding someone hand them to me.
By the way I respect Thom, he’s educated, well written and interesting and used the current capitalist system to acquire wealth. Good for him!
And I like his blog, even more than some of the conservative blogs, which for me are too predictable because I agree with them too much.
But I don’t agree with much of Thom’s politics. However, I am interested in what sort comments people have that are in lockstep with the socialist leftist agenda.

John McCain, Mitch McConnell and most GOP Senators and congressmen are NOT teapartiers!
Also the GOP won the house fair and square in 2010 they didn't steal any elections. Al Gore tried to in 2000. Al Franken did in 2008 and Gov Gregoire in WA did in 2004.
Also Tea Partiers are good people who salute the flag and clean up after themselves when they are done.
The occupy crowd defocates on our flag and breaks laws and are anti-Semitie!
Some teapartiers are now in the House but still dominated by insider establishment Republicans.
There are much more important issues than the govt forcing Healthcare companies to pay for birth control.
Issues that are more important are people being out of work, and people having their homes foreclosed on. More people are on foodstamps that ever before. The House voted to repeal Obamacare but the Dem Senate stopped it.
It's just the hypocrisy by the Dems and most of the media, Reagan, GW Bush and GHW Bush spent more days on vacation than Obama, but they went to places they owned, they didn't go on expensive trips all over the world.
Also Obama doesn't want to drill oil in America and doesn't care about high gas prices. The Dems criticized GW Bush when gas was 3$ a gal and those same people dont care gas is over $5 a gal.

Why Clarissa I am very honored that you quoted me here despite the fact that I never posted on this thread! Those of us over 50 have seen a few things in our lives, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that human nature has not and will not change. The following rules will ALWAYS be true.
1. People are basically selfish
2. People are basically greedy
3. Elected officials first goal in life is to get re elected. This applies to all political parties in all countries.
Obviously that is not true of all human beings, but those three realities cover at least 80% of the humans out there. So you have to set up a system that will work with those realities. And socialism does not and will not work because of principal number 3.
@Dennis! I would love to see that attempted eventuality! Would it take one million signatures on a petition like in Wisconsin to get Mr. Frothy out of office? Actually, I really hope that "the people" can see what a naive megalomaniac this guy is!
Good luck on charges of perjury...Bush apparently got away with war crimes and shat all over the constitution...not to mention all of his other criminal actions..and Obama (after he was elected, anyway) got very quiet about that and apparently, after wiping Bush's ....got very dirty himself. But, we have to be very careful because, after all, that illiterate idiot Bush managed to win the Presidency, didn't he?

Yeah, right!!! The US would do a lot better to just get out of those countries..we are only creating more terrorists...definitely not winning hearts and minds. Of course, that is the plan isn't it? Yup, I am voting for Obama again....not that I think he is much better, but the idea of having someone like Santorum in the White House..turns my stomach.
Maybe that is the whole plan? To make us all so ticked off and nauseated at the prospect of having our country look like Iran or Saudi Arabia through a Republican Torquemada in charge of our country that Obama doesn't seem so bad. And so the ruling elite would win again making us all believe that "we" won. And "we" would all settle down and continue to take it in the....until we again begin to realize what is happening to us. The ruling elite would have, again, a fake Democrat President who is playing the tunes of the ruling elite and the Democrat Congress would be hard pressed to avoid challenging him (because he is? a Democrat).So the ruling elite manages to get the Democrats to pass everything they wanted to begin with.
If a Republican ever actually does become President, they would have more opposition from the Democrats in Congress and the people would likely be more likely to revolt in a more violent and effective manner. The ruling elite knows this and so they are manipulating us through the facade of our corrupt two-party smoke-and-mirrors illusion.
I still don't think Obama is really on the side of the people and is really a Trojan Horse for the ruling elite...Wall Street...corporations..big oil....banksters...and even the military industrial complex...but Obama is, at least, more intelligent than those blathering, hate-mongering, idiots on the right. He doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve as many in the Republican party would. I would much rather see someone from the Green Party win but, knowing how easy it has been to harness and corral, through flashy political ads, the minds of the majority of the voters we had better stick with Obama.

Separation of Church and State must be retained.
In 17th century England & Scotland -- both before and after -- the kings decided what church people would attend -- and yes, thanks to Oliver Cromwell, it is still the Church of England. The Catholics were persecuted in Scotland, where that had been the religion of the majority, but freedom of religion was practiced, and consequently many immigrated out of Scotland.
There is an effort in Scotland now to separate the country from England for a number of reasons, with a referendum coming in a few years. I would support it if I lived in Scotland..... and even immigrating there would look good if we do not retain the White House, and take back the House.
The message is clear and simple and the response should be too. If Ricky Santorum doesn't "believe in an America where the separation between church and state is absolute." then he doesn't believe in the Constitution. Therefore, if he were elected, he could not be sworn in as President without committing perjury.
Except Mr. Santorum will deny any similarities to Iran even if it obvious to everyone.That is why he is against any higher education where people learn to think critically especially in graduate degrees.
It is interesting his idea about the size of government
It is TOO BIG, if you regulate coal mines, oil wells, drug companies, or banks but government has to be big enough or at least contract to the 1% to test all social safety net recipients for drug use even though every time it has been done, it has been a waste of money since they have a lower drug use than the national average. You have to wonder which group is moving that average up. Could it be the legislators, banksters, executives, etc, who are using.
Also government should be big enough to invade your bedroom and reproductive tracks so you are following the Morales of the person in the White House. A Santorum presidency would be the worse nightmare from 1984. I could see the defense department being rename the department of peace as we bomb every one that disagrees with us. Have you seen the new megi manison communities going into Loudoun Coutry, VA. The owner of those homes need another war so they can keep their government contracts. Lord, only knows what we will pay for those weapon after you get rid of the senior rederal employees and you are paying the employees that over see those contracts the new minium wage if he hasn't eliminated.
