There was an article not to long ago talking about upper management people and CEO's that many are sociopaths...isn't that just lovely to think we're all living in "One flew over the coocoo's nest?"

  • The Banksters like Stealing Candy from Little Children   13 years 20 weeks ago

Hey Thom, the rich stealing candy from children potenially could be helpful as all that white sugar & corn syrup stuff is sooooo bad for us. However, I'll speak to the obvious metaphor which shows that the uberultrarich are in reality stealing the sweetness of life from us. This pathology is occuring because they are so diseased & disconnected from their own mind_body_spirit making it impossible for them to satiate their greed - or connect to others. Blaming it on our genetics projects it outward making another way for the human being to not take responsibility for their actions. Let's repatriate ourselves back into our 'promised land' of what our founding fathers intended and 'occupy' sweetness as well.

Quote louisehartmann:Don't just stand there - OCCUPY SOMETHING!
Here are right-wingers who literally OCCUPY this blog! Over the last two weeks I had a war here on three fronts. At least one of those parties was a true sociopath -- 100% ruthless and selfish. I'm a little worn out, but at least feel like they look fairly ridiculous on all three fronts. Now, having read this, I hardly know what to write, which is odd in my case, hardly having experienced the problem not to shut up.

Get a load of wealthy sociopaths, or what?!

This article is great to link to. I think this upsetting stuff can really reach common people who don't care much for politics. Activists should write short summaries on their blogs and link here -- and tweet, tweet, tweet....

Yeah, I have a long list of things that were stolen, but there is no interest being expressed by law enforcement agencies or the IRS to act on first class evidence of frankly illegal, immoral, and completely corrupt behavior amidst lawyers, treasury agents, bankers, trust companies, even whole rigged municipalities. Only the most in your face cases which involve a blonde with a large bosom are being addressed.

At least I have proven, with the principals of the Kryder estate, that the corrupt financial community is guided by estate lawyers who work in concert with individuals who first do a two-year stint as a bank examiner or other treasury agent, then become bank presidents and trust officers. That is the simplified MO. Some of the lawyers are counsel for the FDIC and Federal Reserve.

These are the people who owe us answers and testimony, as well as money and loot- lawyers who learned crime and how to beat it by defending criminals, who have been indoctrinated and unavoidably compromised by the "Mob," and in return fixed the world so that it is run Mob-Style, with patsies and fall guys. Our fabulous casino resorts and single-owner chain stores and vending enterprises ensure us that stolen property and cash are being laundered non-stop every tick of the economic clock, putting more and more power into the hands of the really bad guys.

We need some serious cops around here.

I am on the media team and thought you'd like to see this press release about action in Nashville, TN today. love, Eliz< FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    EVENT AT 5th Ave. N. & Union: Noon to 1 p.m.Occupy Nashville<directaction@occupynashville.org

Occupy Wall Street (NYC)press@occupywallst.org(347) 292-1444 OCCUPY NASHVILLE Occupiers Protest ‘Legislation Laundering’ at ALEC-Affiliated Bank of America as Part of National “Shut Down the Corporations” Day Occupy Nashville protesters on Wednesday participated in a nationwide day of action to “Shut Down the Corporations,” targeting one of the worst offenders in corporate influence over our government, Bank of America. The protesters peacefully protested Bank of America’s downtown branch at 5th Avenue North at Union Street from noon to 1:30 p.m. to call attention to the bank’s participation in the American Legislative Exchange Council. ALEC is comprised of state and federal legislators and many of America’s largest corporations—including corporations that received federal bail-out money, like Bank of America—with the mission of writing legislation to benefit their own interests. “Shut Down the Corporations Day,” styled #F29 in social media, is the largest nationwide day of action in the Occupy Wall Street movement yet this year. The campaign, timed to coincide with leap-year day, is billed as an extra day to do good in our communities and get money out of politics. Occupy Nashville is targeting Bank of America because of their close ties with ALEC and their role in the 2008 financial meltdown and the millions of foreclosures that have happened since then. The Nashville protesters plan to call attention to ALEC. Organizers believe that the public is largely unaware that the most privileged people in America are drafting the legislation that disempowers the most vulnerable. Tennessee’s controversial voter ID law, which requires a photo ID in order to cast a ballot, is eerily similar to a model bill proposed by ALEC. ALEC has also identified private prisons, such as Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America, as an “emerging market.” ALEC supports legislation that would force seniors to reverse-mortgage their homes in order to receive Medicaid. “Decisions about what is right for Nashvillians should be made by Nashvillians, in something we call democracy,” said Occupy Nashville protester Lindsey Krinks. “ALEC is the antithesis of that. It is an organization that intentionally hides the corporate influence over our government for their benefit. ALEC task forces and lobbyists, which meet behind closed doors in secret meetings, marry corporate interests and elected officials to draft and advance cookie-cutter “model” bills to serve the interests of the corporations rather than the people. ALEC is responsible for some of the most anti-democratic, repressive and discriminatory legislation to grace our legislative halls. “ALEC, a registered nonprofit with a board of trustees that reads like a Fortune 500 list, allows 1 percenters to push legislation representing corporate interests,” said Dana Balicki of Occupy Wall Street. “This is legislation laundering.” Actions are planned in more than 70 cities, including Occupy Wall Street in New York. Occupy Portland first organized the campaign. Actions are planned against corporations tied to ALEC such as ExxonMobil, BP, Bank of America, Monsanto, Pfizer and Wal-Mart. I just caught the end of the conversation with Rory Cooper from the "Heritage Foundation" I'm just curiouse why the republicans are always saying government should keep it's big nose out of the free market. However, when the free market dictates the price of oil worldwide, our government should intervene and do something to lower the prices? Isn't that the free market doing it's thing? How can they complain?

If you need a good laugh, go to Washington Post and read Kathleen Parker opinion on Rick Santorum and his "snob" statement. I laughed all the way through it. It was brilliantly written. Sorry that I can't put a link to it here. There are things I'd like to share with Thom's Facebook page, but can't seem to get them over there. If anyone knows how, let me know.

  • The Republican vision of America is that of costly and perpetual warfare.   13 years 20 weeks ago

Apropos Greek overspending (Republicans love that) was largely military overspending and ergo a typical Republican sin. No other country in Europe spent that much on military, like Greece.

So don't fool around with Greece, people -- you shoot your own foot! LOL

  • Welcome to the Corporatocracy - where Life is Nasty, Brutish, and Short   13 years 20 weeks ago

Too many people feel like "Wal-Mart is awesome and politics are dull." This makes corporations so powerful. Our actual work is fighting stupidity.

  • Welcome to the Corporatocracy - where Life is Nasty, Brutish, and Short   13 years 20 weeks ago

"Corporations are people." Why did they make that up? Just to make sure you can't do anything against those corporations. And Supreme Court says AMEN.

These Citizens United ideas "money is speech and corporations are people" are perverse and have to be killed. Because they are able to exponentiate inhumanity. The Republicans are defending this nonsense and they want it to be part of the Constitution, that "money is speech and corporations are people".

The Democratic Party needs the House back for the crucial battle after 2012: Defeat Citizens United, change Supreme Court on long term, take America back on FDR's path and improve that. November is gonna be a matter of life and death. There's no option for non-voting. It kill us!

Just in this moment Bill Press about the president's speech yesterday: "He was having fun there with the crowd." I think this is Obama's actual charm. He likes himself and that's why he's able to like people. Then look at those grumpy right-wingers. I don't wonder they go for the meanness of corporations. They love corporations and despise people.

  • Welcome to the Corporatocracy - where Life is Nasty, Brutish, and Short   13 years 20 weeks ago

Well, if what Thom says is true, I think it portends a dark and evil world. But didn't we know that we were heading down the corporate road more and more? It's in plain site but people are ignoring it.

And I have to respond to Liberty-First's statement: Nor can they extort compensation from the American people for any wrong doing by the defendants acting directly and solely under agreement with said foreign country outside United Stated sovereign jurisdiction.

But the American people DO pay. We pay in the form of millions/billions in corporate welfare and millions/billions in lost tax revenue through the write-off of business "losses." I am reminded of a case I heard about (through investigative journalism) several years ago when the railiroads were sued for some accident (tort) or incident in/by the state of Florida. The railroads lost the case, but the American taxpayer picked up the tab.

When the every day Joes and Jills pay the bulk of the taxes, are hit with higher consumer prices, and suffer as workers for companies that give miserly wages while recording record profits, Americans do pay. Business gets the free ride; they make us pay one way or another for THEIR losses and mistakes. They get the profit and we get the losses and pay for THEIR mistakes.

It makes me sick when I hear struggling people defend the "job creators." They've had the trickle down effects for the past 10-12 years but have not upheld their end of the bargain--where are the jobs?? Where are the results we are told would come if we let the rich and powerful keep more of their money (which was earned on the backs of the worker and the consumer)? It was a lie just like every thing else we hear from those greedy folk.

How about we do the trickle-up theory: the workers stop producing and the consumers stop buying and the profit stops for business--maybe they'll listen and stop acting like petulent spoiled children and realize that we are in this all together.

Well-paid workers are consumers with full pockets from which business reaps their "just" rewards. Their current hoarding-the-wealth behavior suggests to me that they are asking for trouble from a weary and fed-up population.

SCOTUS is the biggest threat to our democracy. The corporatization of America is the result of bipartisan efforts of the Corpocrats and Republicorps. As we go into the process of electing the chairman of the board of USA, Inc., we should remember that we need democracy, not corporatocracy.

Recovering cons..: Never read "Handmaidens Diary" but thanks for the tip...sounds like a good read.

I couldn't find "Handmaidens Diary" but I think you might mean "Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood. The book was published in 1985 and a movie adaptation of the book was made in 1990.

Oh, great, I found the book here:
    http://www.archive.org/details/TheHandmaidsTale

    Here's a short plot summary:

"The Handmaid's Tale is set in the near future in the Republic of Gilead, a country formed within the borders of what was formerly the United States of America. It was founded by a racist, male chauvinist, nativist, theocratic-organized military coup as an ideologically driven response to the pervasive ecological, physical and social degradation of the country.

Beginning with a staged terrorist attack (blamed on Islamic extremist terrorists) that kills the President and most of Congress, a movement calling itself the "Sons of Jacob" launched a revolution and suspended the United States Constitution under the pretext of restoring order."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Handmaid%27s_Tale

That bit about a "staged terrorist attack blamed on Islamic extremist terrorists" was not fiction, you know! Margaret Atwood must be psychic! Or, maybe, that is partly where the Neocons got the idea, along with Pearl Harbor, in the first place. ;~{ 911 certainly was "staged". The Republicans and Libertarians are working on the rest even now. Looks like they are making headway. Of course, we have to stop them before it is too late! Yes, they are misogynist, arrogant, hypocrite bastards aren't they?

I just watched a good movie on Satellite TV called "Ledge". The protagonist Gavon Nichols, played by Charlie Hunnam, was an atheist. And he was out on the ledge ready to jump. The plot flashed back to scenes of what led to his being on the ledge. I particularly liked the dialogue between him and the fundy Joe Harris, played by Patrick Wilson...all the same kind of tired and worn out silly arguments that I've heard so many times before by other fundies. Didn't like the ending though.

I think the radical right Supreme Court Justices will continue to use their offices to promote their political agenda, support of the wealthiest few at the expense of the rest of humanity.

A brokered convention is something I've worried about for a while now considering the clown show that has taken place. I agree with Thom, stay out of the way and let the republicans have their primary.

Buy the way are we picking up the Koch Bros. tab on political spending at the gas pumps?
