During WWII, millions of Americans grew "Victory Gardens." They grew their own food, learned to prepare and preserve what they grew. It may seem simplistic, but many rural communities have the resources and residents with some spare time. With a little local leadership, many new communal gardens could be started in the Spring of 2012. Also, many people can plant and water a few favorite food plants at home. This would at least partially supplement their children's diets. We aren't going to get much help from the government, which is trillions in debt, now or in the near future. It's really time we Americans start helping ourselves whenever and wherever we can.

In recent years, as economic fear has been trending, we have seen this increasingly shrill, un-civil war growing. I have had online discussions with tea partiers both in e-mails and on Facebook. These otherwise good people have treated me to insults, rage, dodging of questions, never reading the material, dumping continually on Obama, birther crap, sending outrageous viral right-wing e-mailings with easily disprovable and outrageous distortions in them, and literally cussing me out -- I could go on and on. And it all gives me this eerie feeling that we are experiencing a kind of fascist mentality (as in Germany in the 1930s) in people I would never have expected to act like that. And since we're all encountering this in the culture and the social network and in media, it's an alarming and disturbing trend.

One of the early sources of this sometimes maniacal rage came through Glenn Beck. I watched Beck to try to understand it and soon found the same conspiracy theories and a new kind of magnified John Birchism. Now we are witnessing serious candidates for the presidency that not only don't make sense, they say really, truly crazy s*&#. And what's worse, it's not a joke. They mean it.

I almost hate to admit it now, but I was a fundamentalist Republican back in the days when the Moral Majority was being taken for a ride by Ronald Reagan and as we watched the unfolding dynamics of the archaist Christians and the dynamist corporatopians joining sides. Now I look at it all in dismay and a kind of wonder. We can only imagine what kind of nightmarish thing this is becoming. These are truly strange times, and in the midst of it we have to look for great things, too. In those pressure cookers, sometimes, novel and new ideas emerge, and progress somehow surges forward.

Anyway I am writing to point out something that has been bothering me in regard to the radio show.
Quite often when you have thought or callers speaking they are interrupted mid sentance and often lose their train of thought.I realize sometime it is necessary to avoid dead air but many times it is not.sometimes this is done when the host disagrees with the guest but it is also true when he agrees.I find it very frustrating to listen to as i want to hear what people have to say.I fight this daily in my own life as i do verbal battle with the Republicans i work with.people who are too busy interrupting to hear anything I have said.
I typically do not call people out in public but due to the fact that there is apparently no other way for me to communicate my thoughts I have done so here.
I do appreciate the work you do and do agree with most of your politics.Keep up the good work,but please try to be aware of what I have said here.

I am apparently the only liberal on here who believes in the death penalty.That being said i would qualify this stance by saying if we are to use it there better be absolutely zero doubt about the persons guilt.Also in cases like that of mr.Davis there needs to be some sort of automatic stay in place to prevent executing an innocent person.People like Dahmer and Gacy need to be deprived of their right to live.But in the average murder case i believe life in prison is a sufficient penalty.In my opinion there is a time and place for Capitol punishment but to use it in the manner Texas has is wrong.

I personally would like to tax these speculators out of existence. I don't recall the name of the tax that was abolished in the 60's where they taxed the transactions. A transaction tax? Yes, most definitely we need that again in this country. Not only for the much needed revenue it would produce but also to help greatly drive down the price of oil which in turn could lower the costs of many goods produced in this country. Their speculations not only increase costs at the pump, but with almost everything we buy, due to higher production and shipping costs. It should be highly illegal for anyone not directly affected by a commodity to speculate on it simply for their own profit.

Your "hydraulic comparison" is quite good, but for those who are not mechanically inclined, let me put it this way: There are only 540 elected folks in D.C. who (by proxy of the billionaires) are putting the squeeze on 308,000,000 Americans. If the hydraulic fluid runs out (i.e. cash stops flowing into government/corporations), the squeeze stops.

The only way those in power will adhere to the will of the people is through a National Strike. Until the revenue streams dry up for repressive government institutions (state government/US federal government) or their corporate masters, they have no incentive to listen to the will of the people. This National Strike should have a list of demands that which can only be satisfied with a completely new constitution.
