How do we stop the Senate filibuster abuse? Why are we asking such a silly question, when we should be asking, how do we get rid of the Senate once and for all?

Perhaps if their was a movement to actually disband the Senate, just perhaps their oversized gonads will shrink and they'll start behaving rationally, and if not, fine more fuel for the fire.

But Mr. Obama, Progressives are F'n retards, why would you want their help?

Let me put it this way, "Once bitten, twice shy". The Obama administration has taken the Progressive base of his party for granted, and now he's realizing that though the Progressives are still not inclined to work against him, they're now not so inclined to work for him. If he wants the Progressives to start working for him, the answer is simple enough, he has to get out in front of that parade and carry the Progressive banner, that's all they want, that's all they ever wanted of Obama.

I think its a Catch-22 though, if Progressives come out and support the Democratic party now, Obama will figure he can continue ignoring the Progressive agenda and then chastise them for not voting for the Democratic party when elections come around again. Obama wants the Progressives to follow him, the Progressives want Obama to represent their side. Which side is correct, well last I checked this was a country for the People, by the People, a representative democracy, so I think its the responsibility of the representative to do the work of the People he claims to represent. Obama hasn't any right to complain about being abandoned, he's the one who walked away.

As for me, I'm going out to vote regardless. I never expected more from Obama than what he's given, so I'm not let down and disappointed. I also realize that allowing Republicans control of either or both houses of congress is not the same of having Democrats in control. Democratic control may not be my most ideal way to run our government, but I prefer them over the Republicans any day of the week.

I would like to see Obama take up the Progressive banner, but I don't think its in his nature to be confrontational with the conservative agenda, and that's what progressive policies demand by default.

Appeasement is not a winning policy, yet Obama has been trying to appease the right from the get go. All appeasement does is convince your adversaries that they will get what they ask for so long as they hold out. That strategy didn't work out for Chamberlain, and its not going to work out for Obama.

The last paragraph in Rabbi Lerner's article!

Many of us will vote Democratic in November, despite all this. But don't expect us to be able to rally others when the best we can say is that the Democrats and their national leader are better than the plausible alternatives. That is not a rallying cry likely to produce many votes or move us beyond our deep disappointments. And many others, feeling humiliated at allowing themselves to have opened to the hope Obama elicited, now find themselves either totally uninterested in politics or wishing to strike back at the Democrats for making fools of those who trusted. Obama and the Democrats remain clueless.

Following my own analysis, millions of people on our planet get the loan at various creditors. So, there's a good chance to find a secured loan in every country.

I heard Mr. Bacevich's interview with Bill Moyers sometime back and I stored my notes from the interview. He offers important information for us.

    Andrew Bacevich

Mr. Bacevich teaches at Boston University. His most recent book is “The Limits of Power.” He was on the Bill Moyers show and he said that he is a conservative. He also mentioned that his son was killed in Iraq.

Here are some notes from his interview. He said that we are headed for greater debt and dependency on oil. The USA has a dysfunctional system. We have an imperial army and we crave imperialism adventurism. The problem with our current wars in the Middle East is that there is no effort to mobilize the country or to sacrifice.

Energy is a serious problem and the primary domestic dysfunctional problem. We must overcome our dependence on oil. Personal debt and national debt are also serious financial problems in America. From 1960 to today we have become the empire of consumption. Americans are no longer masters of their own fate. How are we going to pay the bills? The politicians have no idea of how we are going to pay the bills. Our trade imbalance is another serious problem. Jimmy Carter was the only president who was concerned about our energy problems. We have given up our freedoms and we have accepted our dependency on possessions. Ronal Reagan was a terrible president. He led us in the wrong way and we are still being led in the wrong way by our politicians.

We will need to change our lifestyles. We cannot transform the world to our liking. America must change her ways. Through our seeking of imperialism we are losing our freedoms.

Iraq is an unnecessary war. Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II have been terrible presidents. We have presently an imperialism presidency. Our national security has also failed America. Our system in America is broken. The Gulf War was a failure. Our national security is fraudulent. The Gulf War led our people to believe that our military is invincible. This belief is a fraud and a lie. Our military generals have failed Americans and America.

The insurgents in Iraq have become more adaptable and more flexible than our military forces. Preventive wars do not work. Wars should only be fought to defend ourselves. Americans must understand that we are a “stupid people.” Our military job is to police criminals and not to attack countries. The terrorists are criminals and not the people of a country. Removing a tyrannical leader will not alter the criminal element of terrorism. Attacking a country will not change the criminals. They will have more time to be more creative and destructive in dealing with the USA.

Both McCain and Obama have the desire to be imperial presidents. Both candidates will seek continuity and not change as president. The same issues, policies, and practices will continue in America. There will be no change in our country. Americans will again have a president who will lie to us and there will be no change in issues, policies, and practices. Americans talk about change but in reality they want life to go on without any dramatic changes.

Americans refuse to look into the mirror and see their failings. We also refuse to fix our problems. Our presidents have basically been failures since 1960. We are not a democracy. The media has also failed the American people. Congress has also failed Americans and it has let the president gain more power. We have only a one party system. Both parties have failed America and her citizens. The Democratic congress has failed our country. We have failed our military forces for being called to serve more than one or two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Several tours of duty are immoral.

We must debate the serious questions about the Iraq war. WAS THE IRAQ WAR WORTH IT? Or, are we a murderous nation whose citizens lust for human blood and human carnage?

If I recall early Church history as Thom mentioned on his show, there were two Churches, the Pauline Church and Peter’s Church. Both Peter and Paul disagreed on who can be a Christian. Peter stressed that no one can be a Christian until they were a Jew first. Paul said that a person did not have to be a Jew before becoming a Christian. Eventually, Paul’s beliefs would be the basis of the Christian church. Paul is held in high esteem within the Catholic Church.

    A Dire Prediction

I do not know how much time I have left and so I am making this prediction with a heavy heart. The United States of Satan’s Disciples will start a nuclear holocaust by 2020 or 2025. We have at least 1,000 military bases around the world. China and Russia will be destroyed and from the air these countries will look sink holes. China and Russia will launch some nuclear weapons but not enough to defeat the United States of Hell. The murderous Americans will be rejoicing in the streets. Our nation will be destroyed by the westerly winds from China and Russia. The nuclear radiation caught in the wind will eventually reach its destination on American soil. The effects of the nuclear radiation will take hold in America starting in 2045 and by 2065 the American nation with her empire will be destroyed. American corpses will be seen for miles upon miles. Rotted bodies will be left on the streets.

For the past four weeks we had the Gospel of Luke at Mass. Luke's gospel discusses the haves (with wealth) and have nots (without wealth). Father Ray gave a great homily on the question of what is enough. How much money is enough? Our parish is 60 to 75% conservative and 25 to 40% progressive. Of course the conservatives do not like Father Ray's homilies.

In late August I sent this letter to our pastor.

Although I am sending you this letter, please share it if it is your wish with Father Ray, the two deacons, and the offices in the activities center. If you wish to attach it to a Sunday newsletter, that will be your decision.

I am going to share with you two experiences. My first experience is a dream and my second experience is a nightmare. In my dream I saw the completion of phase one to our church and the completion of the parking lot even though funds are still needed for the parking lot. In my dream I was also able to visualize the completion of phase two and three for our church. With the completion of all three phases I saw a marvelous new church for the parish.

My second experience was a nightmare. I did not see the completion of phases two and three. I saw a disastrous American economy where American jobs are lost forever. I also saw the American rich and the American corporations hoarding their money from profits that are realized in fighting wars for profit, in the sale of military weaponry that America has control of seventy-five percent of the market, and in candidates who are running for public office on a platform that will end minimum wages in America. Ending minimum wages will free up more money and profits for the American rich and for American corporations.

If the minimum wage kept pace with the cost of living through the years, the minimum wage would be between $18 and 19 per hour but we could not have that happen because that would mean less money and profits for the rich and for our corporations to hoard.

If candidates win who will abolish the minimum wage, it will mean with less jobs and more competition for these jobs Americans will be paid a penny an hour with a one hundred hour work week for an annual salary of fifty dollars. Now that will really add more money and profits for the rich and for our corporations.

Although our country is in a sad state of affairs, the state we are in is factual and true.

    Sincerely, a Parishioner

The Eucharist is central to the Catholic religion. The Mass highlights the Catholic belief that the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus. Non-Catholic have a difficult time understanding that Mary was born without the Original Sin and she gave birth with Jesus through the Immaculate Conception. In Matthew's Gospel there is a verse that says "With God all things are possible." FAITH IS SOME BELIEFS THAT YOU CANNOT PROVE OR DISPROVE. Faith is faith.

When Mary gave birth to Jesus, her body and womb had to be perfect because she was giving birth to a perfect Son.

I pray to Mary because God, the Father, will never refuse a request from her. Mary accepted all that God asked her to do. Mary and God have a special relationship. God has promised that if the world prayed to Mary, there would be peace and no strife or wars.

Mary has also a special relationship for Catholics. For me she is a very special person. When I had my massive heart attack on October 13, 1994, I felt Mary's presence next to my bed. Mary interceded for me before God to save my life from death.

Jeanie, you're not playing the hypocritical game correctly. Just because you live in a glass house is no reason not to cast the first stone. Whatever your side does or ever has done is blameless, whatever their side does is to be condemned and chastised (even if it mirrors your side exactly).

Logic and reason have no place in this argument, you must purge yourself of it, then everything will be clear to you.

PS, yeah lets tie them to a stake and tax the hell out of them. ;-)

Re: The difference between Bush & Obama

    News item No. 1:

CHICAGO - Two anti-war activists said Saturday that a 12-hour search of their Chicago home by the FBI was an attempt to intimidate them and silence the peace movement.

Joe Iosbaker and his wife, Stephanie Weiner, said the government targeted them because they've been outspoken against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and U.S. funding of conflicts abroad. They denied any wrongdoing.

    News item: No.2

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration yesterday invoked the state secrets privilege in an effort to kill a lawsuit on behalf of US-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, an alleged terrorist said to be targeted for death or capture under a covert US government program....

"The idea that courts should have no role whatsoever in determining the criteria by which the executive branch can kill its own citizens is unacceptable in a democracy," the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rightssaid in a statement.

    News item No. 3:

WASHINGTON - Federal law enforcement and national security officials are preparing to seek sweeping new regulations for the Internet, arguing that their ability to wiretap criminal and terrorism suspects is "going dark" as people increasingly communicate online instead of by telephone.

Essentially, officials want Congress to require all services that enable communications - including encrypted e-mail transmitters like BlackBerry, social networking Web sites like Facebook and software that allows direct "peer to peer" messaging like Skype - to be technically capable of complying if served with a wiretap order. The mandate would include being able to intercept and unscramble encrypted messages.

President Obama may have talked a good game about "transforming" America in the 2008 campaign -- but when it comes to transforming that 60-year-old national security state he inherited from George W. Bush and the presidents who came before him, he's making it worse. Obama is continuing to push presidential power to the extreme, seeking to reduce the power not just of Congress and the courts but the American people, and harming civil liberties. It's sad but not surprising.

When you're done with the book I've been hyping here for the last month, I would urge everyone to pick up the new Washington Rules by Andrew Bacevich, the retired Army colonel and academic who's become the voice of conscience for breaking the cycle that now has created a permanent state of war in America. I worry that -- just like alcoholism or any personal addiction -- America will never break that crippling cycle unless we hit rock-bottom, and nobody wants that.

Didn't Christianity spread through violence and force as well?

  • Daily Topics - Tuesday September 28th, 2010   14 years 37 weeks ago

Maybe that's where early Islam got its violence from--the Bible. And I think Maxrot's suggestion to tax religious groups is WONDERFUL. Because as much as individual preacher men want to be able to say whatever they want, the one and only way you get most people's attention is to take money away from them, like in the form of taxes. It seems that conservatives think it's more upsetting to be taxed than to have one's speech stifled. So tax 'em.

I thought the Muslim faith roots go back to Abraham. All Mohammad did was branch the faith off. Hmmm kinda' like the Mormans did in the 1800's.

Randal Terry wants people to read religious statements of violence and then demean it. Yet he only wants it to limit it to the Muslim faith. But by his reasoning, you could do it with any religious scripture.
