@Ron The more Pelosi tries to “manage” the economy the more it will look like Zimbabwe or Venezuela.
Very clever to choose a country that hasn't had a middle class in a hundred years. In Venezuela the split is 10% rich and 90% poor an oligarchy of European descent and a populace of Native/Slave descent. Hugo Chavez is the first non-white President of Venezuela. He allowed the oligarchy to blare anti-Chavista propaganda 24 - 7 through almost every TV station in Venezuela during and after the US backed coup attempt and yet there persists the myth that Chavez is a rabid totalitarian. Chavez get re-elected because he has brought sight to the blind ... literally!

Here's another wrinkle for your flattened earth Ron; a major health care fact about Venezuela...
An endemic parasitic water borne illness hits many people each year but it is treatable and survivable. As a consequence, this South American river blindness has left 100s of thousands of people functionally blind. By nationalizing its oil industry Venezuela has been able to trade oil to Cuba for the prevention and treatment of this disease. Instead of obscene profits for oligarchs and oil companies thousands of people can see again after a corneal transplant.

The sign on the health insurance industry reads:
The Greatest Health Care System in the World!
Only the healthy free-traders believe that old saw.
There are a few ways the US health insurance/care system is the greatest:
    1) Cost - per capita more than 2x greater than the rest of developed world [TRDW]
    2) People Without Health Care - again per capita >> TRDW
    3) Emergency Care - in our longest war ever with a solid recent history of violent crime >> TRDW -- the upside is that the trauma care in US is likely best in the world
    4) Profit. US wins this hands down because profiteering on sickness is illegal in ~ all of TRDW
    5) Bankruptcy - unheard of in the rest of TRDW med expense is now leading cause in the US

    1) Odd – I’m in here daily, and I’ve never gotten even one e-mail from any person, place or thing that had anything to do with Thom Hartmann in ANY of my e-mail accounts. Yet we’re to believe that he spams conservative trolls … apparently, to the exclusion of all others. Go figya!?

    2) If there was post deletion going on in here, don’t'cha think we’d have deleted YOURS? The blog is monitored, and sexual/racial obscenities may be deleted. The obscenity of raw, unadulterated selfishness (generally seen as a virtue by neocons) however, gets to stay here unmolested.
Give me your email address and I will be sure and spam you as well and then you can respond to his blog posts also.

No obscenities aside from quoting others. It is not you guys, it is others that are deleting. Maybe you just have not seen it yet. But it looks funny when something is deleted and another person then looks like he/she is talking to himself/herself.

I just say grow up and send me your email address if you want spam...

Go read and quite spamming.... lol

    Talking about Part D:
Sec. 1101. Closing the Medicare prescription drug “donut hole”. Provides a $250 rebate for all Medicare Part D enrollees who enter the donut hole in 2010. Builds on pharmaceutical manufacturers' 50% discount on brand-name drugs beginning in 2011 to completely close the donut hole with 75% discounts on brand-name and generic drugs by 2020.
If good enough that it needs to be enhanced then it seems good enough to stay...

SURPRISE! This is a PROGRESSIVE blog site - we're ALL partisans in here.

The problem you are having with us is that you are from the OTHER party.

"Do you think good ol’ Ron is being paid by the word? (I resist the urge to be sarcastic.)"
Nothing. How much do "they" pay you? Must be based on number of vacuous posts.
I figure that since Thom feels obliged to spam all my email accounts, then I should be allowed to respond to his BS.

Of course some trolls around here delete posts, they must get paid for the number deleted...

Drug companies are already putting this method into practice! I recently was prescribed a drug which there only the brand name available (no generics, no other options). The drug is very expensive, and the drug company decided to double the quantity it puts into its "package" so that you have to pay even more for the drug even though the doctor agrees you only need half as much. The pharmacies nor the doctors can order a lesser amount nor can they split it up because of the cautionary information that must be delivered with the complete package by law. Talk about being greedy!!

Well, in my case, the drug company lost. They got $0.00 from me. I chose another solution and spent the money in doctor's pocket instead.

I know you believe that American corporations are inflicted with short-termism, but if expected prices for doing business in the future is going up and they may be constrained in raising them then, then only fools will not raise them now. It is not the same as your furniture store analogy. If you raise uncertainty in the future then prices are bound to reflect in the current prices.

The more Pelosi tries to "manage" the economy the more it will look like Zimbabwe or Venezuela. How are the "middle class" in Zimbabwe doing, Thom????

@wRONg Rutherford, re:”Just ridiculous to tie work output to consumption.”

I’ve been working on the bleeding edge of the electronics industry for the past 33 years, creating non-consumer products that make most people’s eyes glaze over when they ask me “What do you do?” You ARE correct that nobody here gets paid well enough to buy our products – then again, nobody who works here would WANT one … kinda like an Aircraft Carrier. However, pretty much everyone who works here IS paid well enough to buy a 3 GHz computer or a 48″ Plasma TV … if they do want one.

So – your statement, copied above, seems to indicate a belief that wages (consumption) should NOT be tied to productivity (work output). Enlighten us fools in here then, Professor, to what SHOULD wages be connected? Most excellent, now resorting to juvenile name calling, right?
Great for you. Hardly the case in believing that wages should not be tied to productivity but it is beyond that also. Fordism does not in fact hold to the productivity to wages and wants to somehow include output as a factor {the tangible end product}. That I find ridiculous. Aircraft carriers was just a simple example but wide body aircraft or high rise buildings or any number of "products" that the average person could not afford even if they were a "bankster" {sic}. And those that support the Fordism of the worker should be able to afford his product produced like the concept that tiddly wink workers can only afford their output?

    @wRONg Rutherford -

Pelosi hasn't yet called the vote, and won't till she knows she has the votes - that's what the Speaker of the House is SUPPOSED to do.

Denny Hastert established the "finish the vote in 15 minutes" rule for Congress when he was Speaker. HE opened the vote on Medicare Part D and HELD IT OPEN for HOURS while he shopped around for additional votes.

But I guess it's all the same, eh?

Which tax cuts for the "wealthy" are you referring to? It seems the new process is beyond simply "reconciliation".

Ohhhh, its OWN rules for how long votes remain open. I am so shocked!!! You think Pelosi is not "timing" the events to get the maximum likelihood of achieving passage?
