@Nels, when 94% of the MSM is controlled by liars, how can Americans really receive the truth in order to make the right decisions. Their motto is to keep Americans stupid.

@Nels, the United Nations could be an important factor in world peace but we have many Americans who have scorn for the UN and the UN has had some corruption problems and so the UN may not be the answer. What a waste of such an organization!!!

I can only hope that the Fox News disciples are unable to blunt the flood. I feel that the American people would never allow our government to be in the condition it is if they knew the nature of its condition. Many however, seem far more satisfied with being told every thing is fine except for what the progressives are trying to do.

"If you repeat a lie often enough, people will begin to accept it as the truth."

@Nels, I do not know criminal law but I believe that Obama would be tried after he leaves office.

I have called on Obama to join the International Criminal Court to investigate Bush/Cheney. Obama has refused to let America become part of the family of nations. Obama has chosen to follow in the Bush/Cheney footsteps and be a war criminal.

Here are the last two paragrphs of Brent's article.

A recent Gallup poll found that 76 percent of Americans believe government should limit corporate political spending. There will be a tidal wave of public support for making American elections American-only.

Our system is corrupt to the core. If a special interest offered bags of cash in return for a politician's vote, it would be a criminal felony. Our system is designed to legalize what is essentially this transaction. The least we can do is not further globalize the corruption.

Well Gerald, I don't disagree with your premise that America is operating above the law... or king of the world if you will. My point was more to the practicality of calling out our current administration as War Criminals. It would seem far more realistic to pursue members of the last administration first and foremost.

I personally would like to see the United Nations become a more effective arbitrator between nations as President Wilson initially envisioned the League of Nations at the end of WWI.

A world that is subject to the will of a minority of countries will always be unstable. I don't see how putting Obama in the Hague resolves this, another American President will fill his shoes... it may remove some symptoms, but the cause is still there.

@Nels, I am a big believer in our country becoming a member of the family of nations and join the International Criminal Court at The Hague. It is for this court to make the decision. My concern is that America is functioning above the law. We make the rules and other countries must obey us. The USA is known as a James Bond 007 country with a license to kill any and everyone of God's children. That is my firm belief. The Hague would prove me right or wrong.

Nels, please remember that Iraq is a wrong and an immoral war. The killing in this war is a crime. Obama has continued to kill civilians in other countries. We cannot play cop to the world even though we personify the Keystone Cops in our behavior.

Going to war was unnecessary! We must not fall prey to the evil doers in our country and glorify war. People who believe in wrong and immoral wars are distancing themselves from God and damning their souls.

@Gerald, that last article was interesting. Leave it to Fox to find weakness in good manners... obviously they haven't a clue as to what manners are or why one would use them.

DDay, I did not know that, and I'm shocked, just shocked that only 73% are considered so.... I thought that was one thing they all had in common :-)

@Gerald, I took a look at the link you provided. I see that Obama is requesting more funds to continue the war. I just skimmed through the article though, is there anything in that story that is more to the point as why he is a war criminal?

I only ask because, well being a war criminal takes more than just being criminal, you sort of have to go beyond and above the call of brutality to be considered such.

However, I understand and agree that War in of itself is a criminal operation against humanity. But what's the point, what would you like to have Obama charged with at the Hague?

Nels, did you know that it was recently reported that 27% of the members of Congress have rrhoids? It's true... the rest are perfect A-Holes.

It is time to start calling Obama a war criminal!

Thanks DDay for the last comment (in particular). I'll be happy to contribute to your PAC. Hope you keep the crazy on the run as you nip at her heals. I'd promote legislating against stupidity in regards to getting rid of her, but that is a bridge too far.

    @Nels

I again refer to Jefferson's quote about tyranny getting a foothold when people of good conscience remain silent. There isn't always a shortcut to success. People must raise their voices and lend support to those who will stand resolute. What better thing to make a stand on than accuracy and truth? What good can we expect to come when they are absent? I'm saying that we need a movement of people to champion the essential values of rational truth. You are right Nels, the majority of the electorate may not be in step with this concern today but they will not be tomorrow either, without people taking a stand and building consensus. What hope do any of us have if truth and honesty are so discounted in everyday life? None. Besides, this isn't such a difficult sell...the virtues of truth and honesty are fairly unassailable.
BTW. This isn't just cheap talk or pointless bloviation on my part. Last Sunday we held a fund-raiser for a new PAC here. It has been registered with the FEC as RATPAC. Residents for Accuracy & Truth. We raised six thousand dollars. Our initial goal is 50K. Our first target is Michele Bachmann. We will work to expose lies in politicians and promote accuracy and truth from public servants. When are web site is up soon, I hope you will consider a modest contribution. You must crawl before you walk. We plan to run, one day soon. Good men and women must work together to defeat the forces of greed and ignorance. I don't care when they call us elites. They are right! & truth be known, only jealous. Congrats on the jobs. :-)

Our son is bringing me a three and one half hour documentary to watch on What the Elite Plan to do in the Next Two Years. It should be an interesting horror video.

Thom’s guest suggests that America starts a fourth war in the Middle East by bombing Iran. The Twenty-first Century will be the century of the evil empire (USA) in the killing of God’s children. The USA will reveal herself as evil if not more evil than China, India, Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, and Israel.

China leads the world in solar energy. USA leads the world as a banana republic. The USA continues to slide into the abyss of irrelevancy.

Thom, thank you for another labor segment on your show!!!

I hope you realize that I'm not asking for morality legislation. What I'm talking about is deceiving the public for the detriment of the public good. Perhaps, as you seem to be leading to, such legislation as I'm proposing should be limited only to a politician who lies for personal, or for a lobbyist organizations gain. But not to some of the more unseemly lies about their sexual orientation, or flip flops on their views about whatever.

It just seems to me, that when you take a witness stand, you're obligated to the the truth to the judge who is there as a representative of the Government. The Government is meant to be the people. So why is it when a politician takes the pulpit, is it acceptable for them to lie.

I do realize that technically it is ok, what I'm getting at is why is it ok philosophically in considerations of the foundations of democracy.

  • Daily Topics - Wednesday February 3rd 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

One cannot hope to realize the fruits of morality through legislation alone. They must first endeavor to try and live those values before trying to impose them on everyone else.

DDay, that sounds like a wonderful idea in theory... but in practice I would say most of the electorate is incapable, or willingly ignorant about many of politicians lies.

When Bush and Cheney lied us into a war, they weren't voted out. They weren't brought up on Impeachment charges. We the people only had the hope that the House of Representatives would act in such a way, but they didn't. In other words, we the people are not allowed the tools to go after such politicians when our own chosen representatives refuse to act.

I'm tired of a Government for the People, By the People... through the proxy of a chosen few. To me its a disgraceful sham.

    Thom,

You mentioned Germany's surprisingly low unemployment rate. Along with what you said, Germany actually subsidizes companies to hire and keep people on their payroll, even if at lower wages. It's a really smart idea. Better little than none. On top of that Another reason they can afford to live on lower wages is their Universal Healthcare. It's a complex system, of non-profits and public, but its by any margin more cost effective than ours. And yet, they say Socialism doesn't work, right? Let's just let the free market figure it out. That'll be better.

And i just want to say.....Poor and Lower income Republicans/Fiscal Conservatives are the saddest people I've ever met. They're like the a bank showing a robber into their vaults. They have no idea how bad they're getting screwed under the guise of religious, or even worse, their affection for the plight of Millionaires and Corporations. It would be enough to laugh if the problem didn't effect all of us. Otherwise they would be the crazy guy on the corner yelling conspiracy theories about Communism and holding a sign that said "God Hates Gays".
