    We have a bizarre teenage issue in SAC. The problem is so bizzare and prevalent and I think, unique to Sacramento that our Assemblymember is actually holding conversations about it. I saw a documentary about it. It is really creepy. Seems to be about lack of judgement and suppression combined. Well...it is so unbeleivably conservative here.

    Say, great point! NOW single hetersexual men will become stakeholders in sexual violence and harrassment laws and regulations!

    The tea partiers blame the government and I blame the rich, greedy, uncaring big corporations. In reality they are the SAME ENTITY. As in most fascist countries like the United States, the right wing big corporations have taken over the media, the military and the government for their own profit.

    It is time of us to declare war on the big corporations and to unite the bottom 99%. The tea partiers are insane wackos but we need the bodies, since they have no brains. But the key is to UNITE We the People.

    The far right always has to have an "other" as the focus of their fear and hatred. It used to be commies, now it is homosexuals and Muslims. This is nothing new.

    We the People have no choice but to unite against the big corporations. I have started a new plan called Unite to Strike but I have been warned that it is too radical .

    We need to figure out a way to EMPOWER people so they can see the effect of their power. That is why I am arranging a public display of moving bank accounts to the local credit unions here. If enough of us support the Move Your Money campaign, we WILL see an effect. Later we will organize to strike, maybe after the looming next financial crash.

    @DDay: Well, you first picked the booger and brought it out, so don't blame me if you can't get rid of it. Yes, I originally echoed you to say we are friends. Dont mucus a big deal about it. re: the bon mot: I know what you mean. When i was a kid, looking for something I'd lost, when I found it my mother would say: "Isn't it always in the last place you look?"

    At the time, the remark just passed over my head. After I got older, i would think back and wonder..was she joking? did she even realize it was funny? I wished I had thought to ask her.

    @glenn N

    I guess the only questions that remain are: 1. Could a straight man persuade you to have gay sex and 2. Could a gay man persuade you to have straight sex? and finally, 3. could a straight man persuade you to have straight sex? Now we have all bases covered!
    p.s. feel no need to answer my smart-ass queries. Just wanted to be politically correct.

    make that "want" to hit on every woman they see.

  • Daily Topics – Tuesday February 2 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

    My favorite response when confronted with those who claim that homosexuality is a chosen condition is to ask the particular basher what year in his/her life did that person decide that he/she was a heterosexual. Usually leaves them standing stupidly saying that they always just knew. How is it then that others throughout history have made the conscious decision to make themselves pariahs in society, subject to abuse & scorn & isolation by choosing such an "abhorrent practice" as having sex with others of their own sex. Judge not... how soon we forget our scriptures when it's inconvenient. We will evolve past this fear & loathing because in fact we are what we are homo & hetro etc. & no rules or legislation will change that.

    Why is it that homophobic men think that gay men want to hit on them any more than straight men hit on every woman they see, even if they're attracted to them?

    @harry
    What, with all this booger talk from you, does this mean we are friends? Or is it just that you see boogers everywhere?

    By the way, I didn't really write that bon mot. My older, (lawyer), brother said it to me once with great passion and solemnity....I broke out guffawing uncontrollably. He didn't understand why for quite a while because he was so flustered and offended by my amusement.

    I meant to say there is no gay man who could persuade me to have gay sex

  • Daily Topics – Tuesday February 2 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

    @glenn N.: Exactly. I'm especially leery of those who are rabidly anti-gay.

  • Daily Topics – Tuesday February 2 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

    this may be overly simplistic, but the reason that many are afraid of having gays serve in the military, or the reason many object to gays, is because they feel threatened. they are insecure in their own sexuality, and afraid of their own sexual identity. look at larry craig, or jimmy swaggart. these type of people demonize what tempts them. if they make it seem evil enough, maybe they will never fall to their own temptations.

    there gay man who could persuade me to have gay sex, and there is no program that could "reprogram" me to turn from heterosexuality to homosexuality. therefore I do not fear interaction with gay people. perhaps the people who protest are protesting too much because of their own sexual ambiguity.

    Julian - You are describing Authoritarians to a t. They think in black/white, are highly homophobic and ethnocentric along with being sexist. What a great bunch eh? Google the Authoritarians and you can read about them.

    @DDay: Very Good! Keep it up.

    (PS: there was a booger on your bon mot.)

    Thom right wingers have a very serious reaction to anything that questions their ideology of hierarchy and power. I think the idea that a military man's sexual preference is unknown or undetectable in an environment of one of the most masculine and heroic stations in the country is more frightening to right wingers than we can imagine because it really calls into question gender stereotypes in ways that have far more depth than they'd like to consider. Gays in the military shatters that black and white picture they prefer to paint when it comes to sexuality.

    Thanks harry. Here is my only demi bon mots: "I refuse to be obstinate!"

  • Daily Topics – Tuesday February 2 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

    I wasn't listening, but was told that in response to a caller, Tom said that "S&M people" were "broken people?" in the second hour today? PLEASE tell me that he didn't say that? Also, is his national show archived? I would like to be able to hear the ACTUAL context of this alleged remark.

    I don't want to accuse a fellow progressive of slander until I've heard the actual words myself.

    Anybody have a pointer?

    @DDay: no, I'm not published. I had all my bon mots on computer, but I lost them when the computer crashed. However, i plan to put the best of them on my tombstone. I guess you can save 'em as I produce them?
    Otherwise, watch for my obit.

    Harry, You are too smart for me. "I never metaphor..." I love it! You wrote that one too? Are you published? I should have been writing down your posts. Like I said, way to clever for me...and mellow too? I hate you. :-)

    Conservatives are better at spreading their messages than progressives are because their messages are just plain simpler.

    Progressives are a more diverse bunch - we all tend to agree that we don't like things as they are, but we're not necessarily in complete agreement about how things should be, or how to get there. The cons all seem to march to a single drummer, so it's much easier for them to appear organized.

  • Daily Topics – Tuesday February 2 2010   15 years 15 weeks ago

    @DDay: gotcha.

    (P.S.: there was a booger on your message.)

    @ harry

    With a name like DDay you can expect that I'll be hard charging. I thanked Thom for providing a forum for those who need to bloviate. I just think if a friend suddenly starts showing up with a booger on their nose, being a friend means telling them, in case they are unaware. Besides, the older I get, the less time I have to waste, so please allow me to do the wasting! Sorry I blew up again. :-)
