Mark J S -- RE#22 Thanks for the insight into how each party creates voters for the other parties. Unfortunately, the repugs have figured out to keep the voters, who they have created for the dems, from voting.

  • Who will be this Generation’s Thomas Jefferson?   10 years 21 weeks ago

Paul H -- It seems that conditions were far worse at the end of the 19th century. They did not have a violent revolution, so why do you see the inevitability that we will have one?

Penny R -- Is that private or public debt? Why do you care about the debt? Please care about the median wage.

Andrew Jackson is the only administration to drive the debt to zero. It almost destroyed the US economy.

the middle class let the Bankers down by stopping paying on assets that lost most of their value in the process? if it wasnt for the Fed and the Bankers employing extreme measures used during the depression your fiscal irresponsibility would have sunk this country! it was a breath of fresh air to see the Fed and its members rally together to save America!

This could be where/how we discover the mettle of the GOP.

Constantly whining about America's national sovereignty (not to mentiion 'exceptionalism'), will they 'man up', as it were, to stand for America? Or will their continued obeisance to their corporate masters hold them in willful thrall?

    "Gentlemen, place your bets!"

Anything Goes Friday – Depression and sugar

    Tom,

You would be well served to visit the Walsh Research Institute website at http://www.walshinstitute.org/ and peruse the material under the “Our Work” tab.

Better yet, read Dr. Walsh’s Book, Nutrient Power; Heal Your Biochemistry and Heal Your Brain (ISBN978-1-62087-258-1), and then invite him to be a guest on your program.

BTW, Dr. Walsh has accumulated a database of laboratory tests of 30,000 mental health patients and controls, more than 3 million chemical test results for patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, depression, ADHD, depression, autism, etc. and an additional 2 million blood/urine/tissue chemistries from research experiments.

He was more notably the research director of the Beethoven Research Project at the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory that studied the relic remains (bone and hair samples) of Ludwig Von Beethoven and found that Beethoven had elevate lead levels, which could explain the poor health he suffered throughout his adult life.

Dr. Walsh is now involved in outreach to patients and physicians, and conducting physician trainings with his team of medical practitioners.

Was so engrossed in watching this thing...

(ok "EVERYTHING" might be an overstatement)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Qt6a-vaNM

...missed Friday's show entirely (happy to learn "Brunch w/Bernie" clip here).

Got up pre-dawn just to hear 2nd to last caller on re-broadcast...

...Documentary left little doubt that none other than GHWPoppy was right there on the Plaza... Mob in it, sure... hope Thom does "look into"/watch this thing (lots in it for a history buff...(learned that the same Dulles boy who JFK fired yet who (strangely) chaired the Warren Commission also helped draft the Treaty of Versailles --- and more) and that more discussion to follow... Of course, the level of ruthless depravity on the part of the gangsters (...quite a few Bushes over the years...) might give anyone pause... (or make good people like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren think long and hard before...)

I liked Reich's blog, and his 4 concluding recommendations:

    1. Limit size of biggest Wall St. banks.

    2. Resurrect Glass-Steagall.

    3. Define insider trading as "using information any reasonable person would know is unavailable to most investors.

    4. Close revolving door between the Street & the US Treasury

Question: Must Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren be elected, alongside a Senate and a House with Democratic majorities, before this can be accomplished?

Mark, could you translate "IOW" for me? Sorry, I only speak English; I don't speak acronym language.

    IOW means "in other words".

  • The Deficits Republicans Don't Want to Talk About   10 years 21 weeks ago

The answer to my question on per capita debt in USA is (and this includes newborns), 54.62K per person in January, down from 54.65K in December 2014, up from 52.09K in Dec 2013. So...we're slowly sinking.

Until we exit these "free trade" agreements and again enforce the anti-trust laws, the only jobs that may be created are by global corporations who certainly do not respect peoples' rights. Wal-Mart is an excellent example. Without tariffs to protect American manufacturing, American industry cannot compete. Without anti-trust enforcement, neither can small business survive. Politicians, even Bernie Sanders, telling us what we need never change a thing. Most Americans know what is needed. We need a government for its constitutents, voters who look beyond the propaganda and PR, relief from taxation for the high risk gambles of Wall Street. We need to cut military spending and take a good hard look at our judicial and prison system.

We educate our children to be in debt and overqualified for most of the jobs America now has to offer . Maybe they should skip college and go work at WalMart or McDonald's out of high school. At least they would have a job after awhile and they wouldn't be in debt starting out. Does anyone know what the per capita debt is in the US?

I'm from the south....red states! Criticism gets you looked at like your crazy as h----. Is that way in other red states?

  • The TPP Will Sink the Middle Class   10 years 21 weeks ago

NAFTA destroyed North American economies (Mexico, USA, Canada) for the middle class, and made the poor even poorer. Check out Chomsky's ROGUE STATES. Now the plutocrat's representativeS (TPP needs a simple congressional majority to pass so it's not JUST Obama) are going to include the Pacific in the slaughter. This pact will ensure that the Pacific ocean is truly an "American lake" economically as well as militarily/politically.

Free trade agreements are excellent for funnelling riches to the rich and controlling workers. The requirement of treaties and pacts for trade make the term "free trade" an oxymoron. Nothing about it is free today.

  • The Middle Class Needs More Than Talking Points   10 years 21 weeks ago

As long as washington politcos think of us as "low life scum", nothing will change, except for the worse. The time is rapidly approaching when us low life scum will have to rise up and "scumify" washington.

    BTW, what does "IOW" mean?

    Economy -

America is not alone on the economic downward spiral... you are draging everyone down with you... I believe intentionally!

'We the people' do not control America as intended originally... get a grip! Try to understand!

    War

War is an act of intention... America does intend... and does so proactively under a guise... by fooling the populace and other propaganda

They like this because they can...

Bully and create destruction and go on to rape, pilage, steal, burn and destroy

Then possess a piece of land or obtain infuence!!

Having abused the humanity there they are filled with joy

    Sad!

  • Should anyone be allowed to spend $1 billion on our elections?   10 years 21 weeks ago

Let's face it, thanks to Citizens United, corporations call the shots completely and openly now. Americans still get the illusion of choice...for now. We can pick from the watered down red Kool-aid or the sugar free blue Kool-aid.

  • Who will be this Generation’s Thomas Jefferson?   10 years 21 weeks ago

Who will be this generation's Thomas Jefferson? I think that's completely missing the point Thom; a point you should already know. We will have no "Thomas Jefferson". We are not even a democratic republic any longer. We are an oligarcy. We are on track for a revolution; certainly a major uprising and maybe even a civil war. I would be more concerned with who will be this generation's Napoleon or Caesar? We have declined to the point where I seriously believe there is any possibility of avoiding an major upheaval. I don't see any way to avoid it. Americans are so disgusted with the government; we are far beyond the point of "reform"; there is no trust remaining in any of our institutions even if someone magically appeared we wouldn't believe them. All we're waiting for is the spark.
