So was Bush successfully in stealing oil from the Middle East?

"Giles" is most likely pronounced with a /j/ sound. George Martin, the Beatles' producer, has a son named Giles, and I know that's how he pronounces it.

Where Big Pharma makes money unnecessarily is primarily on things that treat but don't cure, so that you pay at a steady rate for decades. Vaccines are not in that arena.

  • Daily Topics - Wednesday February 4th, 2015   10 years 20 weeks ago

While there is a large consensus that parents should vaccinate their children, there is also, and should be a large distrust of big pharma. Their primary function is to make money and that they do.

  • Daily Topics - Wednesday February 4th, 2015   10 years 20 weeks ago

Since epidemiology has figured out that we can afford up to 6% of the population to go without vaccination, we can set up a compromise. Let there be a waiting list for not getting each vaccination (organized by what month the children are born in), and prioritize anyone with an individual medical reason (such as "bubble boys"). Then, because we can't take religion into account directly, have a lottery for who gets to be exempted. We might have to have someone from HHS go on TV and discourage people from putting their kids on the list just because they feel like it, so that people with religious objections (or some other semi-legitimate concern) have a greater chance of getting picked. I would hope, however, that kids whose parents object would amount to less than 6% of the population.

DAnneMarc, I think it's NFL policy to blackout the non-sellout games. I'm not into football, but my brother is, and he said the Broncos got on TV a lot because the games were so consistently sold out. I guess there's a drawback to getting a bigger stadium.

ChicagoMatt, I wonder if the Air Force planes came from here (Denver). There should be an Air Force base closer to Phoenix than that, but my complex got a loud flyby that weekend.

Dear Thom. As difficult as it is for me to sit through your program with my ceiling left intact I do from time to time get overcome with the feeling that I've just got to say something , while I hope by now it's become painfully obvious that the Petroleum cartel together with out dearly beloved and oh so "honorable" banking cartel friend's care little if at all as to the overall health of the people or the planet it's almost as if they must really think they have another one waiting for them when they are done looting plundering & pillaging humanity . But what I find truly astounding is the level of either blissful ignorance or plain blind ignorance from the very people who everyday profess there worldly intellect on the TV set all across this nation , the very people WE look to for honest "REAL" observant reporting . One would think by now the "terrorism" term used millions of time's a day would have long ago been disected and opened up to the world and seen finally for what it's always been by some good old time gumshoe "observant" news reporter, but it hasn't so we are forced to wade through this disgraceful sham just to get to 5 minutes of what's acktually going on in the political world as if they have any power at all . Oh and Thom one would have to be in a mental coma to suggest kerosene dropped nearly a 1/4 mile of skyscraper into it's basement in 56 minutes . Even the most blind of fool knows enough to FOLLOW THE CASH ...Read body language watch Larry the Mouth Silverstien shoot himself directly in the foot on national TV , so while WE little people can't get down the street without a seatbelt on it seem's Wall Street can some how loot the nation and NOBODY see's a thing ... Go Figure Thom ...Go figure...

The black ancient Egyptians were further south, not north of the Sahara. Modern Egypt is not the same territory as ancient Egypt.

I've heard that there's plenty of oil and that there's no chance of running out in the foreseeable future. I've also heard that if we keep burning oil like there ain't no tommorow there ain't gonna be no tomorrow. It shows how desperate the search for oil is when oil drilling platforms float like a boat and stay in place with big "trolling motors" using GPS to stay in the same spot while sending drill bits a mile through the water under the floating platform to the ocean floor to start drilling another 1/2 mile under the ocean floor to get to the oil and then pump the oil a mile up through a pipe that's running up through the water to the floating platform. Doesn't that sound risky and desperate if not just plain insane? What could go wrong? Why do this? Shouldn't we abandon this insanity, shift our transmissions into high gear and head full speed toward alternative clean green energy? Are we nuts for continuing with deep water drilling or are there among us some very greedy people, unconcerned about future generations, telling us that this is nessesary?

Some environmentalists think it's better to drill here in the the United States rather than elsewhwere andoff of our coasts rather than others'. There are here a few regulations protecting the environment whereas in many other places there are none.

Of course, if we let them drill here they'll drill in both places. Better just leave it in the ground.

Not to get nit-picky, but it was the Air Force Tunderbirds (F-16s), not the Navy Blue Angels (F-18s) that did the pregame flyover. At least the one I saw, right after the national anthem. Maybe there was another one before that I didn't see.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows who gets the revenue when the stadiums are rented out to things like concerts? Soldier Field here in Chicago has concerts every summer. I wonder if the Bears get that money, or the city of Chicago.

Also, do athletes pay income taxes on where their hometeam is, where each game is, or where their home address is? Did Arizona get any income tax from the players and coaches in the Super Bowl, since they made that money in Arizona? If that's how it works, it must be a red-tape nightmare, determining exactly how much money you made in each state, and making sure you pay income taxes in each state. But I'm sure they have people for that.

It's a mistake to think that everyone in Africa looks the same. The part north of the Sahara has never been populated by black people.

That's not true. Ancient Egypt had many black inhabitants and many black pharoes, so much so that many anthropological historians consider it a black civilization - predating all other civilizations.

Okay let's see! Fossil fuels are polluting the planet beyond recognition. The disease caused by their use is causing huge increases in insurance and medical costs. And alternative energy methods have been bought off or stonewalled by fossil fuel moguls. Does anyone think this is a coincidence? Wake up, people unite, and demand change, or our kids will pay the consequences.

It is past time to call out low life scumbag John McCain. He was tortured in the Hanoi Hilton? Bull! (Unless one considers being denied Hookers, Martinis and servants torture. I would like to hear an explanation of how that is torture while waterboarding and sleep deprivation are not.) Even his complaint that the POWs were not allowed to maintain military discipline reduces to a complaint that over a hundred colonels and commanders could not use the half dozen enlisted men as orderlies.

But the baby-killer's shame does not stop there. After the POWs were released four enlisted US Marines said publicly that they had no complaints about their treatment; that their lives were generally better in the Hanoi Hilton than they had been with their commands. Sure, the food was not as good, but was the same as their guards ate. The baby-killer then began his political career by denouncing those Marines who were promptly sent back to prison in the US.

Certainly anyone paying attention can see that for fifty years the US has considered its greatest threat anyone who might challenge the myths woven in Washington.

The Vietnamese handled our POWs who had slaughtered their children with compassion, even unilaterally releasing a few who had suffered severe injuries. Meanwhile the US held over 30,000 "suspected sympathizers" in tiger cages, crippling them. That a villain like McCain is allowed to walk free is a condemnation of the US.

Legend ~ I think you really hit the ball out of the park concerning stadiums. (Pardon the pun.) 10 home games is about all the local economy stimulus does. If you happen to own a parking lot, restaurant, or hot dog stand near the stadium you might look forward to 10 days a year of high income. If not, all you have to look forward to is a huge traffic jam on your way to or from work. Here in Oakland we have two ungrateful professional teams that want the city to build them their own stadium. Apparently the Coliseum isn't big enough for the both of them. They both make me sick. The Coliseum is a huge, modern venue right next to a major freeway with it's own BART train station. It has it's own huge, two-stadium parking lots, plus added parking from BART and adjacent business. Yet all that isn't good enough. The Raiders and the A's can't seem to get along. The Raiders are a particular pain in the butt. Although they suckered the city into building the huge, Davis extension in the middle of the present park, they refuse to allow the A's fans to use it for home games. Thus, they screw not only the A's franchise; but, also the A's fans who would like a chance to use those seats. If that isn't enough, the Raiders have a policy whereas if they don't sell out every seat, they black out the local telecast of their game so that no one here in the Bay Area without tickets can watch it. Lately, they've been whining and threatening the City that if the City doesn't buy them their OWN stadium--at the expense of the citizens they've already been shitting on--that they will move their team to another city. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Raider's fan. However, I'll be DOUBLE DAMNED if I let them get away with this little extortion/blackmail of my city. I say, sit down, shut up, play some great football where WE tell you to so we can ALL watch; or, just get the hell out of town; and, don't EVER, EVER even think about coming back like you did before. Good riddance!!! (At least if they really do move out of Dodge, I'll be able to watch all their home games again for free. Yipee!!)

The most important thing might be to make sure adults get vaccinated, so that they can't infect newborns that are still too young to get vaccinated themselves.

You would have stood a better chance convincing the impoverished citizens of early Rome who flocked to the coliseum to view the mayhem that was the one bright spot in their otherwise miserable existence ! Not so much different today !

  • The Real NFL Scandal   10 years 20 weeks ago

The area around the stadium in Denver certainly does not show any great growth or wealth. Football is only 8 home games and 2 pre-season games per year. The stadium gets very little other use. I do not attend professional sporting events. It is not just the high price for tickets, it is $10 for a hot dog and $10 for a beer. Most of the vendors are homeless that are hired just for the game. I prefer to play golf and get some exercise. Baseball, Hockey and Basketball all are expensive, more than a round of golf at a good course.

  • Big Picture Rumble - Can We Now Admit Reaganomics Failed?   10 years 20 weeks ago

Dunno Thom. Some are not ready to admit the earth might not be flat. Forty percent of Americans believe that Eve-olution is a satanic plot to shake our faith, and that this country was established on these shores by God his-own-self to show men the virtue of righteousness. Some of Rand Paul's constituents even handle venomous snakes as a religious service. Admit Reaganomics was a failure from the git-go? Maybe in a thousand years after humanity is extinct.

Who can justify this tax exemption?

Sorry, twisty, but it is impossible to sound the depths of the stupidity of Americans. What we do know is that the very dumbest are called football fans; that is why their advertising rates are so high. All you need do is dangle something shiny in front of a football fan and he must have it.
