Re: the ongoing talking point... "...Culture of entitlement."
Or "Entitlement culture."
I've seen it phrased several ways, to be honest.
Is there an "entitlement culture" infecting society? Sure, and I very much doubt it's all that historically unusual. More on that in a moment. Our current "infection" may, or may not, be more widespread than it has been in the past. Kind of hard to assess when you're not living in the shoes of your ancestors. I sure it doesn't just "infect" the poor, the disadvantaged, those seeking to be treated fairly, or anyone who might seek help... and also feel an over bloated sense of "entitlement" at the same time.
I have been hanging out here on the TH blogs for a while. Lately, I have noticed a marked increase of "troll posts" and irrelevant advertisements. Together, they seem to overwhelm the conversation, or at the very least clog up the current topics and thus, in a sense, disable any sane use of the medium.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder WTF is going on. I wonder if there is not a "movement" to disrupt what has gone on here, for years, in terms of sane conversation.
It's taken Mother Nature, a.k.a. Planet Earth, tens of millions of years to very, very slowly convert decaying carbon into what we today call fossil fuels. First it buried it deep, subjected it to enormous heat and pressure, creating long-chain hydrocarbon molecules called petroleum, or into simpler chains of methane (natural gas) or just plain coal. Most of this sequestered carbon was locked up deep in the planet's geological vault; a sort of energy Fort Knox of the planet.
STOP EPA's proposed rule that would exempt hundreds of antiquated coal-fired power plants in the eastern U.S. from the "best available retrofit technology" (BART) requirements of the Clean Air Act (RIN: 2060-AQ93, EPA-HQ-OAR-2011-0729).
Did no one explain to Corey Booker that the thrust of the Obama campaign accusations are not about whether or not venture capitalism creates or destroys jobs, nor how many, but about Bain's damage control. It was not Bain that "bailed out" the pensions of those terminated, while Bain's fees and profits were not connected to the "success" of the weak business they raided (Bain won regardless of the outcome). The argument is that wealth creation for its own sake is no guarantee of job creation (as Romney proposes) nor is Mr.
The new NDAA, 2013 version, H.R. 4310, sec. 1221 (policy) and 1222 (preparation). Also, H.R. 568, SEC. 6 and 7, eliminates non war options!

Stop the insanity, no war on Iran!

I usually don't support anything progressive, but I did send the local communist radio station (KBOO.FM) a considerable check today for the recent hilarious piece they did on Paul Lucifer Lindman, who is one of "our" best local Clear Channel corporate shills, and who loves to bounce his grand kids on his lap (Maybe a little bit to much, perhaps Paul?).
