The president has limited powers, one being that he makes suggestions to the legislative branch for his campaign promises. The president can not by law make any bill.
If you recall with the health care reform it was baucus who prevented the singal payer from being mentioned into the bill while they were in committee. The president was powerless over controling this. But no thanks to the gop some of the blue dogs we finally did get a HCR passed into law. Had the president not signed it into law we might not ever have had one in our life time.
I could go on and show you where you are wrong, but it would be endless. Just remember the Democrats never had the filibuster proof senate.
Please do more research on what you claim, but stick to where you will get facts not conjecture from either side, and remember this, President Obama is nothing like bush, who had daddy's corporations to make good threats when he was wheeling and dealing. Reagan and Clinton also had help from corporations too so they could make threats to get the legislative branch to cooperate, President Obama does not. But I would prefer this president to the others.
Could it be that Thom is human and made a mistake?
Has anyone noticed that the gop senators and representatives have not even hinted that the President is lying? They kept claiming that President Obama was able to locate bin Laden thanks to mr. bush, and also through the torture, but I never heard one claim or even hinted that the President was not being honest.
It's not as if they have been respectful of him. Remember joe wilson with the "You lie!" comment?
It seems to me that at least some of them must have known about this mission and most likely have seen the evidence and photos.

I agree with Amy. I am a progressive & have been schooled by Thom. He is my favorite of all the talk show hosts. That doesn't make him always correct though. I've listened to Alex a few times & though he seems "over the top," that doesn't make him always wrong, either. I also have questions....& they are not without reason. I voted for Obama but from the moment he started appointing his cabinet & reneging on promises, my hope started to sour. We have less freedom now than ever. Too much of what GWB started, he has continued, (allowing the plant to grow deeper & stronger.) Our country is not safer....& if Bin Laden is truly dead...our country is still not any safer. I'm not saying that Bin Laden shouldn't have been apprehended & brought to justice, but let's be clear. Killing a person doesn't kill "evil." So, why so much celebrating....? Yes, it is horrific that 3000 people died here on 9-11. (Still a lot of questions regarding that day too...) How many thousands more have died since....because of our military actions? So many innocent people, just like us....Surely they would look upon their attackers as "evil" also. The sad truth is that much of the evil in the world has been co-created by the policies of our government. And, our government is not so much run by Democrats or Republicans, but by multi-national corporations whose only concern is MONEY. Body counts don't matter. All I can say is "Animal Farm," by George Orwell. You really can't tell anyone apart anymore......
Thom does seem to jump all around in this interview though. If he acknowledges all the lies the government has told & agrees with Alex about many of the issues, why would it be such a stretch to think that there might be more to this story than they want us to know....?

Jones doesn't understand the interview format. He threw out non-verifiable "fact" after non-verifiable fact and filibustered about nothing every time Thom asked him a question. It was classic Michelle Bachmann. Let's just say that you and I saw very different interviews.
Gus Get real Thom has criticized Obama so many times . But when Obama does good - then he deserves credit for his leadership & guts and making the right call at right time. BRAVO
Like many delusional people Alex Jones replaces facts with heresay and speculation. Give some facts or please go away Alex Jones. You know you are hearing BS when you hear "an anonymous person heard some other unnamed person say...". Really now.
And by the way, the format of an interview is: question from the interviewer, answer from the interviewee. Someone should give Jones the memo because he clearly had no idea that Thom was tryin to interview him. His statement at the end that he "aced" Thom shows how out of it he is.

I wonder how Osama will all come down in story form in about another 2000 years? They'll probably get Obama and Osama mixed up like Joseph and Jesus or Christ and Crestus...and that goes on and on too. People will argue over translations and deliberate falsifications of the ancient languages that survived after the big cataclysmic nuclear meltdown of many of the other nuclear power sites after the many thousands of mega tornadoes or earthquake/tsunamis (caused by Global Warming) rip them apart and we won't be able to contain the radioactive debris blowing around in our atmosphere or polluting our waters.
But, instead of 2000 years into the future it might be more like hundreds of thousands of years into the future when the plutonium has decayed and the remaining primitive cellular organisms mutate into more complex life-forms into "thinking" beings and they find shreds of "intelligence" from a past "civilization" that mention Obama and Osama, they might make the same mistake the previous life-forms made in tearing each other apart over some ridiculous, superstitious beliefs and greedy ambitions. They may have Osama's picture hanging in their caves and worshiping him, the once President of a great nation, who walks around in a toga..has a long beard..and turns over the corrupt money changer's buildings because the evil, powerful, greedy satanists who loved money (and something called oil) above all else that they would send legions of death squads over the lands to put to death anyone standing in their way (men, women, and children). Speaking of images has everyone seen that photo of Obama with a 'fro and a hat and a bud....looks like a pimp, huh? Ok, cheap shot, we were all young and foolish once. I'm just joking...Osama wasn't really the one who wrecked all of those money-changer offices in the WTC building...he was just as much a patsy (or still...a CIA agent who played the required part of Mr. Bad Guy) as the 19 alleged Arab hijackers. But of the 19 alleged hijackers, about half of which are still alive, that allegedly got murdered, along with the other victims, were probably not keen to the fact that they were being used as patsies and would die that day.
Picture this: OBL(code name Tim Osman) was on the payroll of the CIA back in the days of the Russian occupation of Afghanistan and he continued to work for the CIA until????probably still alive and relocated with another false identity....maybe, now, living in Miami having cocktails and hookers with Jed...but more likely he's in Saudi Arabia with family again. The ruse is complete...his job is over...he served his usefulness...and played the part very well. The Obama regime claims they killed him but hastily dumped the evidence at sea. It's Tora Bora II now at theaters near you! Now we are supposed to believe and trust in a corrupt regime that what they say is the truth. The Pakistani politicians are now adding to the elusion after having been payed off with buku relatively worthless (or fast becoming worthless..like our savings and buying power) bucks...or maybe they got what we still have plenty of....high tech weapons of mass destruction....to potentially kill Indians no doubt. Then we will have yet another excuse to invade Pakistan even more so than we already have. Disaster capitalism. Keeping the delusion alive. Keeping the buck flowing. "Killing is our business...and business is great!" And in reference to the 22 people that got murdered right along with Osama..."Kill them all...let Allah sort them out!"

Do I actually think anyone reads all of my lengthy diatribes? Probably not many do. But what the heck, I have only a few other things better to do and it kills time before the inevitable end of the world..for me anyway. No angels or pearly gates for me...hopefully! No little devils either.
Wormwood! Wormwood! Wean them from their delusions and pluck the suckled breast of superstition from their lips. Reality and worldliness is hard to take for some people and find security and meaning in make believe.
Things could have been different for Obama and for us...his one-time supporters. He brought this all upon himself when he began siding with the exploiters of the people. The people voted for him in sufficient numbers to even overcome the election cheating and sneaky dirty tricks of the right wing. If Obama had only fought for the ideals he bragged that he stood for before. Even if he had lost, he would have still been seen in the eyes of his supporters as someone who was really sticking up for them and fighting for them. Instead, Obama sold us out either because he is vain and greedy himself or because he doesn't know what the hell he is doing and is a wimp with no gumption, no guts to really stand up for what he said he believed in. Or, because any idealist who became President is made to know quite explicitly that they had better play ball with the crooked system or they will not live to see the end of their term. I believe that there are very sinister and powerful groups of people that control the shots and everything else is just pretend..done for show.
Voters need to see through all of the glitz and glamor of all that political advertizing and slogans that money can buy. If they do then it wouldn't matter how much money politicians get bribed with in the PAC money from the controlling interests. The Republicans may still rig the voting machines but if the people show up in overwhelming numbers at the polls to vote for someone who is not represented by big money and for someone who has not disgraced himself by losing all in a "compromise" that looks like a complete give away to our enemies, then it would be much more difficult to cheat in the polls. I think that is what happened in the last Presidential election...Obama was able to convince people that he was on their side and would make a change "that we could believe" in. But, for whatever reason, he sold us out and now expects us to believe in him again.
Fascism is stacked against us now. We may never pull out. But voting for a proven turn coat is not the answer. The Democratic party, as it has come to be, is basically a party of big business as usual and presents only a smoke-and-mirrors, bait-and-switch tactic, and a pressure relief valve to keep the people ever hopeful that change in their favor will happen...but never will.
The Republicans don't need to resort to their usual election fraud in order to beat the Democrats. Obama has lost such credibility with his own base that they will all stay home and not vote or they will vote for a third choice. Obama has done this to himself! He is no longer credible! The OBL smoke-and-mirrors...hastily getting rid of the evidence and now not even showing the pictures (which, themselves, would not have been proof of anything) is yet another indication that Obama is not credible. A disgraced and un-credible regime, like the last one, once again wants us to just believe everything they say...they are only looking out for us, protecting us. Yeah, right! America is obviously slipping into the ooze of the sewers and we keep electing these a$$-wipe clowns..like Bush and Obama. A new low would be whoever the Republicans would put into office...I shutter to imagine.
No, the two-party system is no longer credible. Many of them, Demos and Repubs, are not worthy of their office. They are sell outs and far from honorable men/women. I figure they will time the OBL assassination movie just in time before the election and if the movie is as idiotic with false patriotic fervor and half truths/half lies in favor of the current regime then brainless, emotional, simpletons will probably be persuaded to vote for Obama. Gee, too bad they don't have John Wayne or Charleton Heston (Mr. Moses..."pry the gun from my cold, dead, hands") to play the leading role.
By the way, there is a rumor going around that there is a virus going around that says to "click here" to see pictures of the dead bin Laden. Now, the question is is there really a virus or did the pictures really leak out (you know they will eventually). Where are you Wikileaks, Anonymous? It could be that our government is trying to keep you from seeing the pictures by scaring you that there is a virus if you try to look at them. Has anyone actually seen the pictures? Have they been infected?
The thing is that the government seems to be acting like the pictures are so gruesome that we shouldn't see them. We have a very wimpy and prudish country...unlike many other more enlightened countries...that are not as "protected for our own good"...whose own good????
We are usually the last to see many "censored" movies or books, if we manage to see them at all. I've noticed this pattern on such movies like Agora and others.
Sometimes I think I am back in Saudi Arabia, where I worked for a couple of years, and they have gone to such extremes as ripping out pages in magazines and books or marked over photos of bare woman's legs with thick black magic marker. They air American movies on their TV stations but show a "still" scene of some incipid and irrelevent scene to hide the real scenes that show a little bit of cleavage. There are those here in the US, not Muslilm, who would like to see the same thing happen here...they're working on it!
To the deathers and Thom: If this whole Bin Laden killing was a false story, they would have had to had the cooperation of the 25 Navy Seals and I doubt very much anyone is going to concoct a story with that many people who could tell us the truth of the matter. Anything else does not make any sense. I do have a question, however, and that is: Where is the concrete proof Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind behind 9-11?
If Osama bin Laden was killed under Bush's administration, would progressives and democrats not be screaming for some kind of "proof"...accusing them of shannigans and trying to influence the upcoming election etc. Of course they would, as would I being a Progressive. Not everyone who has questions Thom is a birther/deather. Our convictions should be held regardless of left or right, Bush or Obama. Accountability needs to be demanded regardless. I am fine with the administration's decision not to release the photos of a dead bin Laden. But to belittle and dismiss people who are asking questions as being crazy unhinged birthers/deathers is hypocritical to say the least.
primarydoc if you listened every day for the last five years, like I have, you would have heard it. I'm not going to sift through hours and hours of the THP Podcasts just to play gotcha with Thom. He has had on guests and done several segments in which he said Bin Laden was likely already dead.
That is not the real issue here. The ISSUE is that Thom has Sold out to the DLC. He is unwilling to admit that the only recourse we have left is CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. He is stuck on believeing that Electorial Politics are the solution. The system is broken and electing a "democrat" has proven not to make much difference. Money has corrupted our system. It's rich v. poor, not Democrat v. Republican. I'm sick and tired of Thom giving the Dems a pass as if they represent Progressives.
So the whole discussion of Bin Laden is nothing more than Political Theater that Thom is playing along with. I'm bored already!
If the Deathers are demanding photos of a dead bin Laden, then in turn, we should demand the deather to show us a photo of Dick Cheney's heart and George W. Bush's brain
Anyone who questions a govenment that tells lies is called "birther" and a "deather" or a "9/11 truther" does not get your approval? High level Govenrment officials have stated that OBL has been dead for years. Several sources. Labeling is not a good form of debate or discussion but more like a FOX News ploy. Thom Hartmann has lost credability.
It is ironic how sterile war is for us....no daily weekly photos of dead soldiers coffins, how many people including women and children have been murdered in drone strikes? Does killing Bin Laden justify the this activity. Lets see photos or film of this mass killing that continues on a daily basis. Does Bin Ladens death justify the double down on Bush policies abroad and at home. The trick is to sterilize and desensitize that’s how to keep occupations indefinite.
It would be very helpful to everyone if you could provide dates and links to Hartmann saying so.
