Both the Democratic Party and the Green Party supported California's mandatory labeling of Genetically Engineered Food: proposition 37. As of November 3, 2012, about $45.6 million had been donated to the "No on 37" campaign effort by agri-businesses, junk-food businesses, and pesticide businesses...and the leading opponent and biggest donor was Monsanto followed by Dupont and 39 others. There were only 4 bay area and close to bay area newspapers that were "yes on 37" and 16 other California newspapers, including The San Jose Mercury News, that were "no on 37".
Looks like there were quite a few more dirty tricks that I wasn't even aware of in addition to the one I mentioned before.
Here's the one I was referring to...the deceptive mailer that tried to make it look like the Democrats and Greens wanted you to vote "no on 37". The photo of the mailer showing a smiling Obama and Feinstein...and a header that said "Vote for a Greener California"..."Vote Green". It embedded a "No on 37" along with other propositions that "lefties" would be apt to vote "yes" on...oh, and also a vote NO on 38...which they said was to stop an increase in middle class taxes. I guess they sacrificed some propositions...just as long as you voted "No on 37".
We have had nuke plants for 50 years without a Chernobyl. Perhaps we are lucky Chernobyl happened as a warning, but until a safer form of energy is in place to replace the power we get from the plants now supplying energy, I think we should keep them and maintain strong safety measures to insure we continue to avoid disasters. Also develop additional layers of safety around the plants.
PD - I saw that video of Rachel Parent maybe a year ago and was appalled by the attitude of the man interviewing her. What a prick. But Rachel kept her cool and stood up to his condescention with poise and eloquence. Pretty impressive for a 14-year-old. She had her facts straight; the truth was on her side and she knew it. The interviewer only made an ass of himself with his stupid comments. Anyway I highly recommend this video clip to anyone. - AIW

Maybe you had heard this elsewhere...but my remark about the mailer being sent around wasn't meant to say that Democrats and Greens were actually against the labeling proposition. Eat organic - Yeah! Great advice, for sure... if only I could afford it. Even without buying organic, it's costing my husband and me roughly $300 a month just to eat... and that's on a diet that's meatless at least 90% of the time. We do the best we can with what we've got, which isn't much these days. I've nearly eliminated processed foods from our diet, buying mostly fresh produce and some frozen. Now that they control the media there is little or no disclosure to their corruption or any citizens opposition.
Two weeks ago we found out that our foxhound named "Liberty" has liver cancer real bad. She's only 10 years old. My wife looked up some facts and found that one in four dogs gets this cancer and it's most likely caused by the crap they add to the dog food. After a heart breaking conversation about Liberty, I looked ay my wife and asked, what's ten dog years equal in human years?...... because odds are good that the crap in our food isn't much better.
Sorry Thom. People still don't have a right to know what's in their food. The government does not support granting of this right. Government would prefer to support food producers and campaign contributors than the people who cast ballots. The people will never obtain the right to know what's in their food at this rate. As long as elected politicians keep moving half way to the goal, again and afain and again, the people will be given the impression that real progress is being made. I wonder if Michelle Obama supports parents buying for their children when no one is really sure what's really in it?
Foods grown in Mexico, Central, and South America are more likely to contain toxins from insecticides and fertilizers. It has been observed and reported that the agricultural workers cannot read their own language, much less the instructions in English that tell when to time applications. The story is, all chemicals are good to these people, because they make plants grow better. So they think it is magic stuff they are putting all over the crops. Untimely application of pesticides can result in deposition of poison right in the fruit or edible parts of the plant.
Just about everything that looks too big and luscious is G-Mod. Monsanto should be put down by us just refusing to buy anything that is not organically grown. The Justice Department and the FCC are entrusted to protect our commons and the licensing of users of our airwaves. However, Attorney General Eric Holder and FCC Chairman Thom Wheeler are choosing not to enforce the laws that exist to protect the people from corporations taking control of 90% of our media. Mr. Holder reports to the President and the FCC reports to Congress. So why are our elected government officials ignoring the laws of the land?
Mr. Holder has a strong background in law and as a judge. However, his failure to prosecute Wall Street crimes due to his philosophy that Wall Street is too large to prosecute. Mr. Holder has negotiated with banks on Wall Street resulting in small fines and immunity to prosecution. Mr. Holder is overstepping his Constitution duties, by serving as the prosecutor, judge and jury in his negotiations with Wall Street criminals. He is fact giving Wall Street a “get out of free card”. If we are not a nation of law, we are nothing. Mr. Holder stating that Wall Street is too big to be put into jail sends the message to Wall Street that they are above the law and can continue to do criminal acts, without fear of prosecution. This is a crazy irrational policy for the Justice Department to have against the biggest criminals in our nation.
Mr. Wheeler has a similar philosophy in his position in the FCC. Other than regulation, he talks of competition, competition, competition. His position comes as no surprise since his background as the chief lobbyist for the industry he now is charged with regulating. The following quote is from New York Times concerning his appointment: " I am skeptical that the former chief lobbyist of the wireless and cable industries will be capable of holding his former clients accountable for their ongoing shortcomings,” said Sascha Meinrath, head of the Open Technology Institute at the New America Foundation think tank”. Mr. Wheeler should never have been nominated to this office. His background should have disqualified from any consideration.
The answer as to why our elected representatives are ignoring their responsibility to enforce the laws of the land brings me to one conclusion – they have been corrupted by money and have become Corporatist. They are traitors to our nation and the Constitution they swore to protect and defend. We must mobilize and organize to reverse more than thirty years of damage allowed by our elected officials.
And that's for sure!!! But, if 90 percent of people want to know what's in the food they buy...why did the labeling proposition in California a few years ago get shot down? Could it have been that they were fooled by the dirty tricks that the agri-business opponents of the proposition resorted to? INDIANAPOLIS | Should a business that claims a religious affiliation be allowed to hire only those people who share the same beliefs?
At least two Indiana state senators think so.
State Sen. Phil Boots, R-Crawfordsville, attempted Wednesday in the Senate Pensions and Labor Committee to change House Bill 1242, which would ban employment discrimination based on veteran status, to permit employers to discriminate in hiring based on religion.
His proposal would have redefined "discriminatory practice" in Indiana law to allow preferential hiring based on religious affiliation by a religious corporation, association, educational institution or any other entity.
"If you're talking about two people that have exactly the same qualifications, or nearly the same qualifications, and I need to decide which one should be employed, then I ought to be able to choose the one that I think fits better with my background and my core beliefs," Boots said.
Boots, who owns several businesses in central Indiana, pointed to Hobby Lobby, the national craft chain, as a Christian-identified business that should be free to hire only Christians if it wanted to.
"I don't think that's discriminating; I think it's just that I have a preference," Boots said. "I don't think the law should get involved in that."
State Sen. Karen Tallian, D-Ogden Dunes, and state Sen. Brent Waltz, R-Greenwood, vehemently opposed Boots' effort to permit religion-based hiring.
"Discrimination and preferential treatment are two sides of the same coin as far as I'm concerned," Waltz said.
Tallian noted that religious organizations today own everything from hospital chains to restaurants, and the term "religious corporation" could include just about anything.
She said all Hoosiers deserve an equal shot at getting any job, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Boots ultimately withdrew his proposed committee amendment, which he said was given to him by another senator that he would not identify.
The measure banning hiring discrimination against veterans then was forwarded by the panel to the full Senate.
Boots' effort echoed a controversial decision this week by the House Ways and Means Committee to add — and the next day delete — similar language from Senate Bill 367.
That proposal would have permitted religious universities that contract with the state to continue religion-based employment practices, even though state contracts forbid employment discrimination based on race, religion, color, sex, national origin, disability or ancestry.

You can also go to https://www.grc.com/sn/sn-444-notes.pdf for the show notes that gives several web sites including the goto.com web site I mentioned before.
When you said “100 percent of the people who worked on it agreed with its findings,”
you must be unaware of problems with the IPCC’s 1995 report which was altered by the “political” leaders at the IPCC after the scientists “had accepted the supposedly final text.” The article referenced below is by Dr. Frederick Seitz, a man of impeccable scientific credentials, who was president of both the National Academy of Sciences and the American Physical Society.
