Watch California over the next couple of years as they drive out the tax payers. They can't print money so look for a begging hand out to the federal government. California will be bankrupt.

Yep, go ahead, just keep poking that big stick in face of the so called wealthy. The collapse will come -- who is John Galt.

The Republicans didn't gain on the house, they lost a few seats. I agree, though in that, by sitting out, they were allowed free reign to redistrict. They would perhaps lost the house were this not so.

  • Will GOP's new attitude on immigration sway voters in the future?   12 years 30 weeks ago

I hope some day to have the opportunity to clarify the misconception about the wrong naming of Latin Americans referred as "Latino" in the USA. Most of us feel insulted with this "mote" however, we understand the ignorance behind it but resent it highly, including these so called "Latinos" in politics that cannot even understand it or even explain it. For me it is beyond belief that some of our "Latino" people can support the GOP under any circumstances, including black people who apparently do not know their own history and if they do they ignore it for their own convenience. I recommend the film Harvest of Empire or the book by Juan Gonzalez, it will help many understand a little bit but not everything. During this last election, the GOP leaders have insulted us openly to the core, I take it personal and despise them all just as they despise us!

  • Will GOP's new attitude on immigration sway voters in the future?   12 years 30 weeks ago

The GOP leadership can change its rhetoric on immigration but they can't change the bigotry the resides within a lot of their voters (much of which was cultivated by the GOP!)

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

Republicans are better at "playing dirty". I have been disappointed for many years that the democrats have allowed them to get away with so much. Holding republicans accountable for ethics violations and treasonous behavior would be healthy for the country. It is a wholly different issue that the policy of "witch hunting" democrats to stir hatred amongst low information voters.

Holding our elected officials accountable should be a no brainer but, since the 40 year take over of the media, the loss of ethics in reporting, FOX, Rush, Hannity etc.... facts matter less to folk. If held accountable, how many republicans would be serving time now? Certainly Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez, the whole crew from the last administration would be wearing stripes and making license plates instead of playing golf and shooting quail.

If there ever was a time the democrats had the wind in their sails to bring bring back ethics and accountability, this is it. I would be thrilled to see Issa censured or prosecuted. I find Issa, Mcconnell, Beohner, Ryan, the whole lot of them, to be disgusting. They flaunt a lack of respect for the office they hold and the good people of our country. The manipulative, lying, cheating, Machiavellian tactics they use have weakened our democracy nearly to the point of collapse.

Make it the norm that if you lie, you are outed, if you break rules, you are investigated, if you break laws, you are prosecuted. Please, please let's go after Issa.

I disagree...I believe the wealthy should pay more...much more because they have the most to lose in the event our country is invaded and occupied...just for starters. Those who have very little to lose would not lose very much compared to the wealthy. What would it really matter to those at the bottom who rules...China, Russia, Aliens? Those A$$ hole, arrogant, scumbag, ruling elite Americans are not any more worthy of being our rulers than anyone else. Those with a lot to lose would lose a lot and should be taxed the most.!

As our Pentagon takes up a very large slice of the taxation pie...ostensibly to protect us...but in reality, they are more offensive rather than defensive and mostly make the wealthy wealthier. It is the wealthiest people in America who should have the highest taxes. But, of course, the wealthiest pay the least as a percentage of their incomes while they use their patriotic clap trap propaganda to get the less fortunate people to sacrifice their sons and daughters to murder and be murdered on behalf of making the wealthy wealthier.

In addition, the wealthy have been getting away with not paying their fair share of taxes, squeezing the workers out of sufficient wages and benefits, and shipping our jobs overseas for 30 plus years now. They are not job creators..they are job destroyers. We need to insist...force these maggots to pay their fair share and force them to keep our jobs here in America...how about making them pay 80-90 percent in taxes? That, or we send these criminals to prison where they all belong..they are traitors who are selling out Americans...then invade all those tax havens and confiscate all their money and their stateside property.

I don't think what he did was especially egregious. However, I wonder with all his investigations whatever happened to "legislate, don't investigate". Not to mention the attacks on judicial activism and the calls for "an up or down vote".

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

The Patriot Act will take care of the massive rebellion. Sort of like Lincoln did to the Irish in New York who rebelled against conscription. ($300.00 and you didn't have to go shoot people who were fighting for states rights) I have a feeling that Obama is one of the "Good old Boy" by the way he's acting and who he has surrounded himself with. He definatly has NOT taken on any of the establishment. The "Robber Barons" are as free as birds with nothing stopping them from continueing on with their pilligeing and plunder.

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

Is it just a question of quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Or is it a question of Democrats bringing a knife to a gunfight? Until the Democrats assign people of unimpeachable integrity to lead positions in investigations/prosecutions and go for the jugular of the most corrupt republicans (how to choose?) and then shout the results of investigations and prosecutions to the high heavens; the republicons their unscrupulous tactics and their perpetual motion whining propaganda machine will win.

  • It’s Time To Tax The Rich   12 years 30 weeks ago

Scubaohio: My reply is this: fair share. What did you not understand about that? You went off on some overblown crybaby school-yard bully rant.

Working class people pay around 34%, at least we do, the wealthy should pay 34% also. Everyone should pay the same rate. A simple concept that seems to have gone completely over your head.

People like you do not seem to realize that the wealthy cannot continue to suck this country dry without nasty repercussions.

The wealthy are like 100 vampires desending on the last 10 humans on the planet. On whom will they dine tomorrow?

We all live in this country and benefit from its system, we should ALL PAY/CONTRIBUTE the same.

  • EU Pushing for Privatizing Natural Resources   12 years 30 weeks ago

Americans are such dumb shit they'll ASK to be f----d. I wish they wouldn't take the rest of us down with them.

Russians aren't much smarter. For a long time they had a tacit deal with the government that if they didn't mess with politics they'd enjoy a relatively good standard of living. It was all theft of their country, though.

    Dumb asses!

  • EU Pushing for Privatizing Natural Resources   12 years 30 weeks ago

Rather than making government policy serve the well being of the people the EU is trying to make government policy serve a few profiteers to the detriment of the people. Proves the old adage, "Privatization is theft!".

These hot headed Republicans cannot be trusted...I wouldn't put it past them to have a plan B that none of us would like to see happen. I sincerely hope that Obama has plenty of protection from people he can really trust. Obama is obviously under a lot of stress and he may have a hint of what he may be in for and what he is up against. MLK knew... These right-wing crazies are capable of doing anything. We have to be vigilant and not let these crazies succeed in yet another disastrous, historical event. I predicted the Hinckley attack on Reagan the very day before it happened when I was living and working in Saudi Arabia. In fact, I was quite shocked that after I made the statements to coworkers that I did that it actually happened the very next day. And I don't have a very easy feeling about our current atmosphere either.

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

Original Republican conspirators to obstruct Obama:
    House members:
    Eric Cantor, VA, Dist 7
    Jeb Hensarling, TX, Dist 5
Pete Hoekstra, MI, Dist 2, defeated by Debbie Stabinow, D
Dan Lungren, CA, Dist 7, defeated (?) by Ami Bera, D
Kevin McCarthy, CA, Dist 22, Kern, San Luis Obispo, LA
    Paul Ryan, WI, Dist 1
    Pete Sessions, TX, Dist 32
Senate members: (none are up for reelection in 2014)
    Tom Coburn, OK
    Bob Corker, TN
    Jim DeMint, SC
John Ensign, NV, resigned on ethics problem, marital infid.
    Jon Kyl, AZ
    Others:
    Newt Gringrich
Frank Luntz (organized the dinner and sent out invites)
From "The Conspiracy to Commit Legislative Constipation" article by James Wolcott at Vanity Fair.
But Robert Draper's book: "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives" goes beyond naming names. Looks to be a pretty good read.

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

Issa's attack on CREW is right out of the "corrupt establishment vs whistleblower" playbook. When wrongdoers are caught out, they ALWAYS try to shoot the messenger.

  • When The Billionaire Class Doesn’t Like Facts...   12 years 30 weeks ago

You're forever blowing bubbles..from the inside of one. The whole purpose of government is to protect the majority from the few connivers that are skilled at corruption and thievery. Individual freedom and self worth are fine until they begin stealing from and cheating other people. You'd scream bloody murder if a few people tried to cut in-line in front of you at the grocery store. But that is just what many people who like to think of themselves as lovers of individual freedom and self worth are doing to the rest of us....cutting into the line ahead of us and thumbing their noses at us. Those arrogant, selfish bastards believe they are more deserving than the rest of us in grabbing up the lion's share of everything. We need a strong, honest, incorruptible government and law enforcement to keep people like that in line or behind bars where they belong. The real tyranny comes from those few who managed to wheedle their way up there stepping on everyone else on their way up. A strong, honest government is the only way to keep laissez faire capitalists from hogging everything for themselves. Oink, oink!

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

    Thom

Could you repeat the names of the repub representatives and senators who met after the 2008 election and swore to do all they could to stop Obama from doing anything, including helping the economy, while millions of people suffered?

I'm sure Issa was one of them. DeMint, Ryan, Sessions, . . . who else? Which ones are up for re-election in 2014 (well, all the representatives are).

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

And yet another one bites the dust....CIA leader Patraeus, who led the surge in Iraq and led his own personal urge and surge in more delicate places is leaving. Maybe Obama will appoint Darryl Issa or someone from Fox Snooze to that position.

  • It’s Time To Tax The Rich   12 years 30 weeks ago

Jay Cay Johnstone described the willfully misleading language of business when it says things like, "From now on our employees will have to pay more of their own pension." or, "... more of their own health insurance." as though those payments were, until then, charitable generosities on the part of those employers when in fact they were part of the agreed upon compensation of those workers. It's like they're saying, "From now on our employees are going to have to pay more of their own salaries or wages."

Similarly, taxes on business must be seen as the just compensation business must pay to the people who work for them and not a charitability, however mandatory, on their part. We earned all the government's social programs with our hard work making Mitt Romneys rich.

Just as Walmart gave its employees in California instruction on how to get on food stamps, most welfare recipients are the "working poor" - which is itself an abomination of any justice - or, grossly undercompensated workers. So, what business doesn't pay in wages it pays in taxes. If it refuses to do either - as it is doing now - you have, resulting, what is happening now, the destruction of the middle class and the pauperization of the working people. .

It seems that the Republicans gained in the House due to redistricting (I lament that Democrats allowed the gerrymandering by sitting out in 2010 ), in spite of a slightly higher number of votes for Democrats overall. I guess we could use a more objective districting system.

That is why it is said, "We cannot extricate ourselves from evil."

  • Daily Topics - Friday November 9th, 2012   12 years 30 weeks ago

Easy refutation of the Republican tax lie. A quick google search will reveal that the average profit per worker in the U S is 15000 dollars. So the republicans say that if we raise the to tax rate 3%, they will have to let people go. If you have a business that takes on 450000 dollars profit every year, that would raise your taxes 6000$ from what it its right now. So, say you let someone go, to save the 6000$. You have now deprived yourself of 9000$,(15000-6000) profit. How bad of a business man do you have to be to do that?

  • Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa...   12 years 30 weeks ago

Uh, oh! Here's an indication that Obama won't be any different in the next four years than he was in the first 4 years...Obama just got elected and already he is prosecuting yet another "whistleblower". About the only thing I liked about Obama was his apparent refusal to be Netanyahu's little puppet...maybe. But wait! Now we hear that "the Iranians shot at a drone flying over non-Iranian territory!" Oh, how horrid...how wicked of those evil Iranians! Let's invade immediately! An unmanned drone? Gee, think of the grieving drone widows and little ones who lost their heroic drone "papa" in a patriotic battle against "evil incarnate"! I wonder if those "indians" were really "mormons" dressed like indians....oops, wrong story. How about neocon robots dressed as muslim hijacking terrorists? Oops, still wrong story. Oh, yeah, Daryl Issa...right story! Maybe when all those churches are prosecuted and have their tax-exempt status removed for having preached to elect Romney then maybe we can go after Darryl Issa. But nobody is going to go after anybody (except Obama will continue to go after real patriots doing their patriotic duty blowing the whistle on corruption) because Obama wouldn't even go after the biggest con men and war criminals in our history...Bush and his cohorts.
