I never saw food riots here in the United States or even really heard about them back in 2008. I am seeing a lot of it on television now though. I think that those who are wanting to "punish" people for being rich have absolutely no desire to every have any money themselves because they too would have to be punished.
There are all kinds of people making stuff up about this casino-en-ligne and the sad part is that people will believe what they are saying just because it's controversial.
I like your being brief here. Because this is merely about America's future. It's about our American henhouse: We got in there like hysteric chickens, now we get out like hysteric chickens.
Actually our job lately was, to help organizing Afghan policy, armed forces, police ect. -- this idea wasn't all that bad. It would have been even more chicken-like if we went in there and then soon rushed out again, to leave it to the Taliban once more. Extremely ineffectual muppetism.
If American muppets now wake up, to vote decent Senators and Representatives into Congress in November, we're going to have nothing to complain anymore. Just imagine a plain progressive Congress, making dozens of laws against corporate interest. And of course they won't forget this : empowering Congress as the only institution that is able to declare war -- as it once was.
Please consider this ya'll : if you people are real, intelligent progressives, you won't complain much about the President. Please discuss CONGRESS! We are not a monarchy, or presidentocracy -- we are a democracy, driven by Congress. We the people decide who represents us in Congress. And if we vote like muppets, we get in nothing but muppets. And an army, driven by hysteric chickens.

(1) "Obama hired Wall Street" is mighty flat information. You don't deliver any convincing information, you don't name sources, you hardly explain.
(2) Thom is not discussing here, a pro cannot discuss with amateurs on a blog. You should address other users here, or call in during Thom's show. Sorry, if I use the little-boy-analogy again; but you're kinda running after Thom like "daddy, daddy, daddy, pleeeease!" Thom is a freelancer, jetting around the world and you bet the last thing he has got is time. You should pretty much change your view.... actually on a lot of things.
(3) If you quote me, or anybody else, it should be visible which parts of your text came from you and which you're quoting. You're confusing the reader -- even I had a hard time to read that, although you had quoted me.
(4) Maybe the Democrats in your county aren't very nice people -- maybe..... Maybe the whole population of your county is a bunch of heels? I don't know. But actually it's the whole population of your county who decides who's going to be their Representatives. If you have another progressive party that really has a chance to get into Congress -- why not vote for them? We liberals love Senator Sanders very much : he is not a member of the Democratic Party, but he's cooperating with the Democrats a lot. And he is a realistic option in Vermont. If I would live there, I'd most certainly vote for him!!
(5) Again : attacking President Obama and then being like "if President Bush had done the same thing...", sounds like right-wing-nut-job. Making Bush a nice guy. Why don't you present facts instead? But you know what? Bernie Sanders isn't panicking your way, the very radical Norman Goldman recently decided NOT to bash the President any longer. And these people make sense, as Thom too -- frankly you didn't -- not yet.....
(6) A Democracy is driven by Representatives/Senators. Normally this is called "Parliament" in this world -- we call it Congress in the United States. Congress is the actual power in America -- our nation is mainly driven by CONGRESS. In November we Americans will have another chance to vote decent progressives into Congress -- be it Democrats, be it other progressives who have a realistic chance. Even in case President Obama WAS a "corporate President" INDEED, he wouldn't have enough power to celebrate corporate policy. A progressive Congress would be able to block his budget very soon.
It's actually extremely popular to hate Congress. That is what American Muppets utter : contempt for Congress. By acting like this, they hate their own guts, because Congress is the major institution in this Democracy -- it is the heart, the guts of this nation. Actually EVERY American should participate in a political party. But Muppets are not only stupid, they're also lazy. So if we don't get decent people into Congress, it's the fault of the Muppets, and not the President's fault. Blaming the President for everything is plain Muppetism.
In the late 60s, driving my Land Rover east from Iran to India, I'd traversed Afghanistan, the southern route vis Herat and Khandahar, staying at cheap hotels or in villages, perhaps with Peace Corps Volunteers along the way. We were welcome back then.
Leaving Khabul, I was late for the last car-avan through the Khayber Pass, but talked my way past the check-post. In the twilight I paused overlooking the pass sensing the souls of soldiers, lost in battles millennia ago, as Western armies invaded East, or East invaded West. Below there were traces of railroads, bunkers, tank-traps, twisted relics of war. These resources are mined by villiagers, for their craft-industry, tools and weapons of every type.
I thought of the vast harsh, empty country behind me, it's limited undeveloped resources if any, and it's rugged tough fiercely independent people. Their thousands of years of history, along the Silk Road. Reminants of a world-class University in sleepy Herat, Islamic architecture, shot-up by the British, the huge Bamayan Bhuddhist Statues, (now destroyed by Taliban).
Why not, I mused: lease out battlegrounds to countries needing a place for war? Move innocent civilians out of the way. and when the lease was up, the combatants could declare victory and leave -- with Afghani's returning to mine the area for spent metals and munitions, as they do now.
No armies would stay for long, With thousands of years of history, Afghan has evicted more invaders then any flop-house in the US -- they know damn well how to do it. Isn't that what we have now? The US military needed a place to squander men and material, or war without-end (maybe a decade or two)? We're now being evicted. Guess like the Brits and the Russians, we've over-stayed our lease; or broken the rules.
The Afghan mission should have ended in Dec. of 2001 at Tora Bora, instead, by then, President Cheney had already made Iraq's oil resources part of our energy policy. Invasion of Iraq became the focus. Oil barons and war profiteers were pissing their pants with visions of Iraqi black gold and reconstruction riches. Hell, it was also a good way to run up the federal debt and justify austerity politics, get rid of all those socialist programs and public sector jobs the vast majority benefit from, and like so much.
Afghanistan and bin Laden never were a priority under Cheney and Bush. However destruction of our economy was a priority to bin Laden, instead he got to kick back and watch banksters and vulture capitalists like Romney do the dirty work for him. We don't spend billions and kill people going after these guys??????
We need to get out now!

P.S.: I think your phrases are silly. President Obama has to deal with Reagan's and Bush's corporate America. We have gridlocking idiots in Congress who filibuster us to death, so the President can't change much right now. Without money for campaiging we would get ourselves another GOP regime for 2013, then attacking Iran and total ruin of our economy. Afghanistan had actually asked the President NOT to leave them alone yet. We can't go in there and the next day leave, because we don't like it anymore. We have to act responsibly and consistently! I'm sorry that Afganistan is stuck somewhere between the dark and middle ages- not America's problem. We should have never given them weapons, should have never forgotten them after we gave them weapons...time to correct or own mistakes and GET OUT. Not one more American should have to die on Afgan soil. We need to bring our troops home and give them the care and attention they deserve and need. This is up to the people of Afganistan, if they don't want the Taliban, they are certainly capable of fighting them. Bring our military home!
If my memory is correct, we are in Afghanistan to keep the Taliban from getting the nuclear power from Pakistan.
If left to their own efforts, and with cooperation with the corrupt leaders of both countries, this nightmare could happen.

Homeopathy is another thing you need to reconsider, Thom. Homeopathy was invented before Avogadro's number was discovered. Most homeopathic "medicines" involve diluting a substance in water to the point that you wouldn't expect to have even one molecule left in a swimming pool of that water. Once it was recognized that matter wasn't infinitely divisible, homeopaths came up with the idea that water "remembers" what's been in it. But apparently, somehow, it only remembers what the homeopath wants it to remember, and not all the urine and feces and micro-organisms etc. I am unaware of anything saying homeopathy is about vibrations.
The reason that the soldiers of the fascist regimes have so much trouble mentally dealing with their war experience is because they do not have a moral cause that they are fighting for. Rather than "consciousness", it would be more accurate to say "sentience". Consciousness is more the opposite of sleep (i.e. unconsciousness). Sentience is self-awareness. It's like the difference between pain and agony. Any animal can feel pain (so far as I know), which is just a sensation, but you have to be sentient to feel agony, which is the emotion that comes with pain due to the awareness that it may not stop or may happen again.
Thom, you should look into Edgar Cayce a little harder. There was very little feedback on whether his advice to people really helped. And any prediction of his that is yet to be fulfilled is so far false. So you should first question his veracity and then seek the answer to that question. (Doubt begets certainty.) CSICOP and JREF probably have abundant information on Cayce.

Woohoo; I can hear the show. I'm disappointed by the fact that Thom and Randi are now on at the same time, but I understand it probably helps Thom's scheduling for the radio and TV shows. My bigger problem is that there's nothing on from 10 to 1 (Mountain time). Maybe Thom could convince Randi to do her show three hours earlier. Then she wouldn't have to listen to Limbaugh on the way into work. Win-win.
Right on! For utility patents, the idea of limiting them to a few years would totally backfire. Far from speeding up innovation, limiting the life of patents to 3, or even 5 years would guarantee that only the largest, most profitable corporations develop the new ideas because only the ones that already dominate their markets would be able to recoup their investments in R&D AND make a profit within that small window. The idea of an independent inventor approaching them with a licensing deal (like they do now), would be laughable when they could just wait a little while until it’s in the public domain. If they steal the idea before that, what attorney would take your infringement case on contingency when there’s only a year or two of royalties at stake? For middle-class tinkerers like me, inventing would go from an obsession that might pay off to an exercise in futility. “American Ingenuity” would be dead. How would companies that literally started in garages like Apple or Hewlett Packard have ever been able to borrow the money to get started (or raise capital from investors to expand) if everything they were selling to pay it back would be available to their competition within 3 years. I would love to hear Steve Wozniak, or Dean Kamen (Segway) on the show to discuss this. Drug patents where universities or government agencies do most of the real R&D and lives are at stake are a very special case and should probably have different limits than mechanical utility patents like mine. Also, non-competitive practices like companies buying patents with no intent to develop them (like oil companies hoarding battery patents) are also special cases that need attention. Our current patent system literally got us to the moon and back. So don’t throw the baby out with the bath-water…
