My suggestion to the occupy movement.....compile a list of names of individuals who should be arrested for committing or involvement in acts of economic terror. Occupy where these individuals live, make a citizens arrest, and charge them with crimes related to the illegal gaming of Democracy. Hold a mock trial that publically exposes all details of their crimes and sentence them to deportation to one of the poorest and most violent states in the world....Somalia. Norquist would be a good start ...tea party house members....the list will be long!
Arbitrary power purchased from and sanctioned by republicans in the hands of those seeking financial gain, "wealth without work," at the expense of the 99% is violent to society and needs to end. Newt Get-Rich seems to have become the self appointed poster child for this republican ideology.

Perhaps, at this time the peoples of these United States of America should instead outfit themselves with goggles and masks to ward off the pepper spray and tear gas. But it does not hurt to have backup when the police in a group begin again brutalizing one or more of the Protestors. We do not wish another Scott Olson incident, nor a repeat of the incident where a young man was shown with blood on top of his head and blood running down his face. Security is ALWAYS going to be an issue. However, there ARE ways (and experts with skills) to maintain security and therefore we shouldn't be detered out of fear of failure.

I didn't intend to imply actual electoral voting. Instead, I'm thinking more along the lines of a polling system to indicate spcific and broad thiinking on a panorama of subjects.

Of course there will always be lively discussions with some people knowing what they are talking about and others not so much. However, this idea is a way to open up discourse on a very local level with ramifications that could be international in scope.

I think any such move as using any kind of spray on the cops is a bad Idea. It would be construed as violence. After all, that's what most of us think the cops did in directly spraying tear gas in the students' faces.
And there would be repercussions. It would invite cops and administrators to come in and use violence of any kind to get the people out and keep them from occupying.
This sounds a little like the old civil rights battle between Martin Luther King Jr.'s insistence of nonviolent protest, and the actions of some young people to use violence because peace wasn't getting us very far. That didn't turn out very well, if you remember.
I still think nonviolence should be the way the occupy people continue to go. They have impressed a lot of people with your discipline and ability as a group to do what seems best. I loved the silence that surrounded the Davis chancellor as she walked to her car. Imagine that same walk with all of the surrounding viewers and students shouting and calling names and waving signs. Silence was much more dramatic and effective.
Time to move inside, organize across the country - communicate between States and identify common goals that will address problems and work together to achieve a positive outcome of those goals. Yes, it does mean that they will need to work with one of the parties - the one that offers the best solutions to the problems as they see them. How in the world that would ever be the right would be beyond my thinking! They need to study the progression of Reagan economics and how it has affected our economy today - that will lead them to many answers.
Let's learn to OCCUPY EVERYTHING! Bless the camps, but let's get creative: OCCUPY CHRISTMAS could be a motto on Christmas cards. I saw a cafe offering OCCU-PIE! OCCUPY AMERICA stickers on our cars. Baseball caps with OCCUPY!! We can OCCUPY everything, everywhere we are. And always make it an action with kindness, consciousness, and connection involved.
I think what to do depends on where you are. Here in Portland OR the police have been much more restrained than they are in other Occupied cities. Probably that's because the Department of Justice is in town already investigating them for use of excessive force and dishonest reporting. So what we have is Occupy supporting rallies on a series of subjects, and really interesting discussions on our public TV channels about how to proceed. These are some really energized, intelligent, poised, ruthless young people doing a quick study on how to work together. I love and support them!
"Cleaning up after wandering souls" How do college students getting peppered sprayed fit into this category?.....Sounds like somebody has bought into the, "dirty hippies that don't know what they want," right wing talking point. My advice...go to an occupy protest and report back. I've been to two occupy sites and most certainly the vast majority of patriots were educated, employed, down to earth, and left no mess behind!.... FACT
It looks to me like PUBLIC funds are being wasted cleaning up after these wandering souls. Millions of dollars needeless spent. Most of it in already cash strapped cities. Why don't Malcome Forbes or Michael Moore donate their personal property to the occupiers? Then there are no more issues with the police and everyone wins. Maybe they don't want there land to be dug up and hauled off as bio hazard waste when this is over in Nov. 2012.

Luckily I was able to momentarily distract them with an offering of a frozen cheese pizza and get away”.
The next day over 30,000 Occupy Wall Street zombies marched through the streets of New York City. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, appearing at a news conference, expressed that there was no need for alarm.

I do not usually comment. I think this is pertinent. I once applied to be a park ranger (police officer). I passed the physical, written, and psychological tests with flying colors. They dropped my candidacy after I answered, "yes" when asked if I have ever participated in a political protest.

Catbestland, that is an excellent non-violent idea and should be implemented. Patriots rights should never be walked over and the police are definitely walking over the rights of the Protesters. The Chancellor, Linda Katehi, was only sorry she was caught giving such orders to the police, knowing full well what methods the police would take against protesters. Had the apology any bearing to it, the policemen would have had their paychecks suspended as well. - Cygnus1

OK, I am a pacifist. Have always been. But after seeing that disturbing video of the cops spraying those peacefully demonstrating students and after hearing Newt Gingridge declare that the Occupy movement protesters should "go out and get a job right after they take a bath", I am livid. I think it is time for the protesters to at least start resisting the police if not actually defending themselves. Here is a thought, the small cans of pepper spray used by the police only spray about 10 to 12 ft. (The large ones a little further). Bear spray on the other hand sprays at least 30 ft and is available in most sporting goods stores. It comes in small easily carried cannisters and is easy to use. Bear spray is designed to repel the attacks of charging grizzly and black bears but should also work on pigs.
Look at the similarities as to what is happening in the United States and Palestine once again. - Cygnus!
