Your books give the history of the emergance of different political views. I'm having trouble distinguishing the differences between current "conservative" ," federalist", and " libertarian" ideals. What are the differences if any? Even our local school board elections reflect these ideologies. Luckily, none of the outwardly socially/economically conservative candidates were elected.
On the topic of the balanced budget amendment.Last week I recieved a mailing from repulicon congressman randy hultgren of illinois the heading of the mailing stated IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE NATIONAL DEBT below there was a few facts about the debt such as the size of the debt how much has been barrowed since 2009 and how much each houshold owes.on the back side of this mailing was an explanation of the difference between the debt and deficit followed by a statement"responsible families pay thier bills.The federal government should do the same.that's why we need a balanced budget amendment." after reading the contents of this junk mail I noticed fine print below Mr.hultgrens picture and the house of representives seal.The small print read This mailing was prepared,published and maild at tax payer expense.I Have called and emaild congressman hultgren to tell him I am not in favour of the balanced budget amendment and had my wife do the same and urged my naibors to do the same.It makes me wonder how many republicon congressmen maild out these propaganda flyers at tax payer expense? I just found it two faced to whine about the debt then use taxpayer money to tell us they are planing on screwing us.

This is so true! Conservationists (not conservatives) have been dissapointed by the continued subsidized destruction of the American West by the democratic Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, who trades our clean water sources and wildlife heritage for a slice of the Big Beef Industries' profits.
Catbestland, excellent points! Excellent idea! When enough of the Peoples of these United States of America gather together to occupy the towns, cities and "public lands" with the U.S. Military protecting the peoples and their assets (in this case public lands, and homes), throwing the 1% and their worker eyes off the land and out of their power bases, then much will have been accomplished.
It is important with any new concept to give it over and over again to the people until the correctness of these concepts have sunk into the minds of the people. Does the Military not "drill" ideas into the minds of their own men an women? Indeed it is so.
It will, however, become impossible for the 1% to hide themselves anywhere IF the Peoples of the World rise up in unison against them using their billions of eyes to watch their every move.

Re: Community policing and undercover police
Story- when I was in college a hundred years ago, there were student members of the campus police. A small group of us were, shall we say, being rowdy, and the campus police showed up. One of them was a student I knew. I looked at her, she looked at me, and I said, "OK, we'll be quiet now." The "real" officer looked at her in awe.
It didn't hurt that I was madly in love with her....
Undercover cops- I think it's a lot like journalists. If a journalist is there to observe and report on a story, that's fine. If they participate, become part of the story, not so fine. If there is a large public gathering and a plainclothes cop is there in the crowd, I don't see that as an issue. If he is holding a sign, pretending to be for or against what's going on, or incites any action, that is way over the line.
Of course we should not let up on criticizing the Republicans..they are evil. But let's also not forget that the Democratic Agenda is really not much different than the Republican one...the difference is that the Democrats pretend to be different than the Republicans. Obama has not been much different that Bush. Obama is owned by Wall Street and he is working solely for Wall Street. Wall Street does not care about America. They care for a fast buck and maximizing profits any way they can. It's casino capitalism...and the head casino capitalists are rolling loaded dice. And when they lose...they get bailed out by a corrupt government...both Republican and Democrats. Re-electing Obama will not help us combat those malignant economic cancers because he is part of the problem. He tells lies...things you want to hear...then when he gets the votes..he stabs the people in the back. No other choice? Yes, we have another choice and it isn't one of the two dominant, corrupt parties! Unless we finally show monied interests that their game is up we will continue to be jacked and shafted.
The Democrats whisper sweet nothings in our ears, screw us, then shun us after that...thinking they can scare us by telling us we have no other choice but to continue to take the abuse.

Why should anyone doubt that the right wing machine which is powered by the 1% is trying to destroy our economy? They don't care what happens to us. They already got what they wanted out of the system. (enrichment at our expense) They don't care if the rest of us have to squabble over the crumbs. They didn't care that their extractive industries have destroyed the planet for the rest of us and our descendants, they can afford to buy the most paradisical places on earth and leave that to their offspring. If you will notice property values in places like Hawaii and Aspen Colorado among others have lost very little of their values. They don't care if they have become the very rich living in a poor country. They will simply move their families to the few remaining havens that were intentionally spared the from the raping and pillaging the rest of the earth has endured.
One thing that many of us fail to remember and the 1% would love us to forget, is that there are millions of acres in the west that belong to every one of the citizens of the US. It is PUBLIC land. This land has been monopolized by the most powerful corporations in the world. They are getting rich off of the misuse and destruction of our public lands and our wildlife heritage and they don't even have to pay royalties to the rest of us who are co-owners of this incredibly diversified and rich land. They are destroying OUR land and wildlife and pocketing the proceeds from its very rich resources. We should consider occuupying public lands. (in order to protect them if nothing else. It is OUR land.
while I keep hearing in the news that Perry made a gaffe - he couldn't remember the three agencies he would 'get rid of', the real question should be WHY? Why does he feel that education, commerce and the EPA should no longer exist? So the US government should get out of the way of corporate dominance and refuse to regulate their actions? So the US government should refuse to fund education for the masses? What kind of sickness is so prevalent in our media that this is not questioned?
If recent election results in OH and MS are any indication that the people can win out over big money, it's the direct result which shows that a lot of hard work can prevail against big money. All a matter of getting heard, by one means or the other.
I voted yes because in light of recent state elections I remain optimistic about the outcome of the 2012 elections. To do otherwise is unthinkable.
People who won't support a carbon tax because real costs would be passed on to the consumer are people who do not want a solution to the problem of over consumption of rapidly depleting fossil fuel resources. They are people who are not willing to take responsible action to mitigate the adverse consequences of climate change. They are people who do not understand what the externalized cost of a gallon of gas or heating fuel is.
Nearly the entire national debt is oil & natural gas war debt — a deferred carbon tax — a carbon tax with monstrous interest added accumulating. It's a carbon tax that the Greatest Generation and My Generation has imposed upon future generations of tax payers (their children and grandchildren). It's a carbon tax debt that profligate parents are passing on to be paid by the same future generations who will inherit the catastrophic consequences of excessive fossil fuel consumption caused climate change.
When the (reporting for duty) Kerry voters voted in 2004 to have more resource wars done "better" than Bush, those "progressive" liberals voted to increase the war debt carbon tax.
When those maniacs MovedOn in 2008 to vote for Obama to redeploy from Iraq to the "real" and "necessary" wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan (on their way to Iran), those "progressive" liberals voted to increase the war debt carbon tax.
This fascist nation allows elections because 99% of this nation's people vote for fascists.

Occupy Colleges Now - I wanted to suggest that you investigate, speak out, and help start protests against state universities and local colleges that have contributed greatly to promote corrupted statism and corporatism. I will describe the facts. I have a master's degree from a state university; I hated nearly every semester. Now I have trouble finding work; I am resentful and I believe the colleges owe a lot of responsibility and retribution to their alumni that they have crippled.

Palindromedary, great post! I know what you are saying, but the "U.S. Military and all its branches and arms" must decide whether they want to do an about face and rebuild Paradise for their families, or continue fighting in wars at the whim of their superiors, the 1%.
PARADISE? or be MAIMED OR DIE, SO OTHERS CAN BE WEALTHY AND POWERFUL!
If the People themselves, as some have written on this forum, wish to continue walking down the same old useless road, sitting themselves down for a bowl of stew with vegetables of radish and carrots, and not liking the radish and carrots very much, therefore exchanging those vegetables for corn and peas, to put in the same old stew, then, there will be absolutely no hope for a better "anything" for themselves nor their sons and daughters, so to speak.
Some do not wish to join in the protests for they believe the protests are for the middle class. This could not be further from the truth. These protests are for converting this present unworkable system of the nation, into one which pleases the people. These protests are also against all wars which these 1% have hijacked the U.S. Military to fight.
There should not be one single person who feels he or she should be excluded from either of these issues and events.

I hope you read these comments. I was watching your show this evening as you were debating with two Republican youngsters regarding corporate personhood. One of the key points progressives seem to miss regarding this issue when they are engaging conservatives is that corporate personhood enjoys many privlidges that regular citizens don't get. For example, they aren't required to serve in the military, or to serve in a jury. They aren't required to go to jail when they commit crimes (for example when BP and Haliburton killed 11 men due to extreme malfeasance in the gulf oil spill as well as contractual violations (federal, state and personal), nor are they required to pay fines allocated by courts for crimes (the vast majority of fines levied against corporations for malfeasance are never paid or collected). I could go on and on. But above all is that the men and women who comprise the boards and stockholders of these institutions ARE ALREADY CITIZENS AND PERSONS OF THIS NATION. Why should they get "double personhood." Why should they get "double citizenship." Especially this special, protected, "above the law," I'm rich and powerful so the law doesn't apply to me" personhood.
This corporate personhood is just a way that the very rich have tried to legalize their position that their status and wealth allows them to be an upper class the likes of which we originally had a revolution over to establish democracy in this country way back when. The lies and propaganda need to stop and they need to be exposed for what they are.
