Palindromedary, Thom and Louise, thank you for these valuable packages of information. Palindromedary, I will again copy and paste what you have had to say concerning the banking system and hackers etc. Many peoples do not know this. - Cygnus1
Sacramento Dave, a comment well put, though I wonder about this statement? "So lets go ahead and let them have our Social Security and our Medicare." I suppose you meant this:
So let the 1% have our Social Security and Medicare because we will come into a better order of events which will gain us back more than we have lost or will lose, and they, the 1% will go directly into concentration camps to be dealt with later through the implimentation of Universal Law and Principle. - Cygnus1
People often say the rich should pay more taxes because they can.
But this does not address the argument of the opposition which states that people are entitled to keep what they earn. The greater truth is that there is no wealth without commonwealth, therefore the wealthy are obligated to give something back according to the degree which they have benefited from using the commonwealth (i.e., natural resources, civic services, and infrastructure, etc.) Either directly or indirectly, all wealthy people have benefited from these things. Please reframe this argument and claim the moral (logical) high ground. Thank you.
OK, checked above link and it does work. A caller into Thom's show today mentioned it and Thom didn;t know about it. Thom, you said you read messages on this page so hopefully you will get this and pass it along to your viewers and listeners.
Hopefully this link will get to the story today from Bloomberg about Bank Of America's dumping derivitaves into the FDIC, which the Fed approved of. If the link doesn't work try googling Bloomberg eyes Bank of America's derivitives move on Columbia Journalism Review page. Glad I'm getting my money out.
Everyone seems to be ignoring that what is happening to the economies of Italy, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Iceland, was brought on by the large investment Casino Houses of Wall Street selling their phony "securities" with phony AAA credit ratings to naive foreign governments, selling them as safe ways to invest their countries bonds and economic futures. The guys on Wall Street are are master gamblers who not only hold all the cards, they can read the deck and know when to change the bets before their clients have a clue as to what's happening. They are nothing but criminals whose purpose is to rob as many governments of their sovereign wealth so that they can hold all the chips as well. When the time comes to cash in their chips, every country's economy will suffer. So lets go ahead and let them have our Social Security and our Medicare. But even better, let's extridite the wall street corporate directors to countries that would love to question them. What's good enough for Jullian Assange is good enough for .............
Maybe we need to Occupy the internet. That's what Anonymous does..except they use special techniques to do things like DDoS attacks using zombie computers. But if enough people clog up the internet web sites of targeted corporations, banks, etc with normal surfing they could "take down" web sites. And there would be nothing illegal about it..just normal people doing normal surfing. Of course it would take a lot of participation, without the tools that Anonymous, eg, would use.
Some people take all their junk mail and, instead of just throwing it away, send it back, using the pre-paid stamps, without accepting their "offers" to make it cost these pests time and money. Of course, if you reply to these offers on the internet, just to turn them down, it lets the originator of the spam know that you received their spam and that you really exist. They then send you even more and sell your email address to others as "having replied". I don't know, maybe that is the same with snail mail as well. But at least snail mail isn't as automated and it would cost the originators money just to open your letters and discover there is no money to be made in it.
Our local post office sometimes delivers mail to the wrong houses...I get neighbors mail...and I am sure they get mine. If they steam open your mail and see your bank account number and account balances and other sensitive information this could be very dangerous. Information is power and if they have private information like this, they have some amount of power over you.
Sometimes I have even gotten mail meant for someone clear across town. And I'm sure that others have gotten mine...and that is the really scarey thing because we are always getting very sensitive information in the mail...statements from the banks..even if we don't bank there we get offers, etc, and we get these blank checks from credit cards..that we never use...nor would we ever use. And banking on-line, or having an on-line connection to credit cards, is not safe either..as has been proven so many times. The banks try to cover it up...and don't want you to know about all of the on-line bank account heists that go on all the time. Big money gets sucked out of people's bank account through electronic transfers. And the courts have sided with the banks...not holding them culpable for restitution to the depositors. They blame the depositor. They try to say that depositors are reckless with their account numbers and passwords when in fact they are just banking on-line and hackers are using man-in-the-middle and other hacking methods to steal your account number and passwords. The fact that a number of certificate of authority (CA) providers have been hacked and compromised proves that even the encryption security can be breached. Once they get the CAs, or in other cases, your cookies*..your baked. The DigiNotar CAs were breached a couple of months ago and this destroyed DigiNotar's credibility and they are now out of business. But others have been breached....
And this...just a few minutes ago.... "As two more certificate authorities report breaches in their networks, the Electronic Frontier Foundation found that there were more CAs that appear to have been compromised.
Two more certificate authorities have recently uncovered breaches in their networks and suspended issuing new digital certificates, prompting new concerns about trusting the CA system and the danger of relying on a system riddled with so many problems."
*Once your identity is established using the normal "secure" procedures using CAs and encryption, special "sessions cookies" are used to identify you in further session transactions..for the duration of that period of time you are transacting with your bank (or any other "secure server" you connect with). Check out Firesheep. . A Firefox extension that demonstrates HTTP session hijacking attacks. Once your sessions cookies is known by a hacker he can use that to do a man in the middle attack. You would be connected with your bank, but through the attacker's node. He would see everything you do on-line when connected to your bank.
is Grover Nordquist a KING by making the repubs sign his document.
Thom.......replace the name Grover Nordquist with General Electric or Enron.......(corps are people) and now these CORPS/People says that the repubs must pledge allegience to them, and not do any raising of taxes unless GE says so.
The last I heard was "Joe the Plumber" did not have a plumber's license, wasn't working and when he 1st came on the scene he was behind on his taxes. I remember hearing that a newly elected Tea Party member showed up in Washington ready to sign on to his taxpayer healthcare (let's not forget the nice taxpayer Pension these people get), the Tea Party member was told his insurance wouldn't kick in until he was sworn into office that January, it was stated that the guy was not very happy.. we have Michele Bachmann who hates government and wants it off our backs, doesn't have a problem with farm subsidies given to her family or her taxpayer pension and healthcare and by the way, this woman has worked for the government since she got out of college .. by the way with redistricting in Minnesota I think in the coming year unless Michele Bachmann gets the job or President, she is out of a job...I think 2012 will be a big shout out to all of these like-minded people - they hate government so much that we will do them a favor and vote them out. Surely the Koch Bros. will finally realize what a bad investment it has been to bet against the populace.
I live in a "rich" red county in Illinois and I've seen enough of my neighbors to know that they're either not voting or voting for dems/green/anyone but republicans. That being said, I feel its too early to get too "happy", but at least there seems to be some light...of course the so-called republicon clown candidates for the presidency doesn't hurt us either!
"...it is outrageous that a president who avowedly committed to defending the public interest would now be subverting that effort rather than leading it."

"...forget relying on the federal government to hold the Wall Street swindlers accountable. Indeed, the Obama administration has been involved in negotiating a deal with state attorneys general to settle their complaints with the banks for a pittance of compensation for the victims. In return, the states would promise not to institute further legal proceedings against the banks.
The deal has been stalled by the refusal of California Attorney General Kamala Harris to accept this sellout. Among its other disastrous concessions would be ending further investigation by the states into financial skullduggery connected with the housing meltdown.
In September, Harris, elected in a Democratic sweep of the state’s top offices in 2010, went against the dictates of the Democrat in the White House, stating that she refused to release the banks from legal liability for the mortgage crisis. That is the nub of the pending White House-brokered deal with the banks. As the Times summarized it: “The proposed settlement reportedly would prevent the states from pursuing claims against banks relating to fraud or abuse in the origination of the bubble. It would also prevent states from pursuing claims for foreclosure abuses, like improper denial of loan modifications.”
Thankfully, we have a few state attorneys general, most prominently California’s Harris, standing up for the American people, but it is outrageous that a president who avowedly committed to defending the public interest would now be subverting that effort rather than leading it.
I watched the Occupy Wall Street panel discussion on FSTV this evening...with Michael Moore, Naomi Klein, William Greider, and there was a Occupy Wall Street organizer, and a woman who talked about bad music at a party...and, I'm sorry, I forgot their names. Michael Moore, each time he spoke, started off very subdued but ended each session with quite a roaring finish. Naomi Klein was great and so was William Greider...who said something that I'm sure Cygnus1 would enjoy hearing. I was actually a little shocked that Wm Greider would say such a thing...but he is right on! He said that we can't let this rebellion die out and that we will have to do something really radical...like get the military on our side and support the OWS. I was wondering, however, why the audio kept breaking up..like when Michael Moore was speaking and a couple of times the video and audio went missing to a blank screen..actually it wasn't totally blank...it was like some kind of greyed video frame with a different shade of grey in the center. Like they lost video feed.
I think this was called Occupy Everywhere panel discussion that co-opted Thom Hartman at his 6:00pm spot.
Let's be clear. The Repubs have an uber-conservative, regressive, uber-corporate agenda while the Dems have the conservative corporate agenda. The corporatization of America and The Second Gilded Age are the results of bipartisan efforts. We need democracy, not corporatocracy.
Todd Lockwood: You are right, Todd! I agree with you totally. And I would also like to see Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders as Presidents. Although, Ron Paul does have some good things to say...I believe that you are right...he is still very much for corporatism, I believe. I really don't know much about Ron Paul. But we sure have seen what Obama has done...or failed to do...and it hasn't been because his hands were tied and he would have done otherwise had his hands not been tied. He sold out to Wall Street and he will never do any of the things he promises. He is not fit to be our President and we need to throw him out of office...at least in 2012. I voted for him in 2008 but now I am sorry I did. There is just no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats...they're both corrupt. And if the people really thought that the Democrats would follow through with half of what they promise...they would likely not be demonstrating in the streets now. But the Democrats...specifically Obama...was our last hope...and he screwed us...sold us out. And if he is reelected...he won't even have to pretend any more...he will no longer need us to vote for him...and he will really do us a lot of damage.

At least some Democrats are worthy of our vote:
