@Power Corrupts, I found his attack on David Sirota questionable. Whenever David Sirota takes Thom's show as a guest host, he does a very good job. Ed should not have had Laura Ingraham on the show. I doubt that Ed will be back on MSNBC.
Where I teach, charter schools are springing up all over the place. They are located mostly empty industrial parks and abandonded wallymart buildings. They have a few students. It is as if they are waiting for AYP to fire the teachers, close the schools pass out small vouchers and let the parents wander around finding schools that will take the vouchers.
Of course the more wealthy will get the better schools because they can supplement the vouchers. The others will probably bring their kids to the the same schools only now called charter schools and hope the schools are much better.
Keep in mind that these vouchers are limited. Once the charter or for profit schools take the money and spend it, it is gone. Maybe the kid got a better educaiton maybe not. If they did get a good educaiton it was worth it. If not, the money is spent. The voucher is now gone so where do they go now.
Better luck next school year with a new voucher.

"No child untimely ripped from their mother's womb" was what they were writing about when the phrase “natural born” was written. Macduff whacked Macbeth and that scared the farging crap outta the Founders. Funny. Thom said the Randians think that if everyone acts in the most selfish way, it will create the most paradisical world. It might have been a Freudian slip, but Thom almost mangled the word "paradisical" into "parasitical". :D At least that's how I heard it.
Its not "war" unless we send in troops and then call it so (war) I wish President Obama would have gone in there and helped the Libyan rebels sooner without seeking approval of the UN and World leaders. A natural-born citizen is someone who is a citizen without having to be naturalized. The 14th Amendment defines two types of citizens, listing "all persons [a] born or [b] naturalized". If you're a citizen, you're either natural-born or naturalized.
I wonder if Jerome Corsi is sore from moving those goalposts.

Personally as a guy with a business degree from a well thought of school and having worked in accountancy for a fifth of a century, I was wholly embarrassed for Mr. Selig. At least now, we all know who to avoid (like the plague) if we have business in New York, New York. One should have even a basic understanding taxation to be in the industry.
Kerry was elected President then refused to contest the theft of the election in Ohio apparently out of twisted sense of fairness, thus snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in fine Democratic tradition.

Bruce Ramsey has fallen for the con-men's talking points. When Social Security was "reformed" in 1982, baby boomers were required to pay for current retirees AND save for their own retirement benefits. Those savings were used to PURCHASE Treasury Bonds which have the same obligation of payment as any TB sold to China, Japan or any pension fund. Those bonds DO PAY INTEREST on behalf of the beneficiaries - a group of people that is different than the federal government or taxpayers as a whole. (Many people, corporations and other entities do not participate in Social Security, BUT, are still obligated to redeem these bonds, as they benefited from lower tax rates because of the SS surplus.) So SS has not dipped into the principal balance, but HAS spent some of the interest due, to pay current benefits. This was the plan in 1982 !!
The PANIC from the right is that more general tax revenues will have to be raised to redeem those bonds in the SS account. "Reforming" Social Security NOW will be a criminal farce.
If we raise the retirement age for younger workers that will do NOTHING for the balance of payments until they get to the current eligibility age. (ie I am having a hard time making my mortgage payment, so I will quit eating in restaurants in five years.)
If we increase taxes now to build a bigger cushion it will just push the redemption period further down the road and make it a BIGGER problem.
The only smart way to handle this "problem" is to wait until the trust fund is exhausted and then either raise the SS tax rate or raise the income cap.
Now I am going to get a little crazy on you and tell you how we can reduce the Federal Debt considerably.
1- Cancel all bonds held by the Federal Reserve- they did nothing but print pieces of paper (or input numbers in their computers) to buy them, so we owe the Fed NOTHING.
2-Pay off all foreign owned bonds with US Treasury dollars - not federal reserve notes. This will not cause inflation because M3 will not change, those bonds will be destroyed, not held under a double entry system.
3- Make most federal taxes voluntary by reinstating import duties and tariffs - if you don't want to pay those taxes, don't buy imported goods. Just see how fast the factories and jobs come back !
------Forgot to mention that Social Security and Medicare are the only line items on my paycheck that pay for specific programs !!!

I voted yes as it was a "hopeful" yes but on Lawrence O'Donnell the other day, he pointed out to Michael Moore "so how are the Democrats going to mess this up". It seems we have been handed a golden opportunity and like the past when we had the ability to have such a good talking point, we messed it up. It seems as though some in Congress have it together but I worry about the ones who often do not make their message clear. The division is simple "for the people" or "for the corporations". The argument not so simple. It seems to me, that when you have people on the right side of the aisle fighting terribly hard to promote their idealism, they will not let it go and would never admit to be wrong in their approach. I look at it like the "rapture" Christians. It did not come so they are moving on to the next date. There will always be another date just like in the Rethug party their is always a reason why Hockul was nominated etc... They will not admit to being wrong. So there you have a conundrum, you have Hoyer coming to the table in the House saying Medicare is on the table without stating specifics and that gives that slight wedge, the ever so slight argument to the Reps. The argument gets changed over time and Dems lose the field. So I answered yes out of hope but I honestly worry we will lose the golden egg that was handed us if we can't get our mind straight on the issues.
Gerald, Ed Schultz is a former conservative. He is part of the Dead Liberal Class in which Chris Hedges speaks. He even attacked David Sirota last week for daring to question Obama on Bin Laden. Good riddance to bad trash.

The fact that Democrat Kathy Hochul in New York won, despite the Republicans outspending her by a wide margin, is really great news because it shows the Republicans and their wealthy corporate masters that the people will no longer be fooled by stupid campaign propaganda put out by the Republicans. The people aren't "buying" it anymore. It happened in California, as well, when Jerry Brown's opponents greatly outspent him...yet he won. What a great slap in the face to the entrenched ruling elite. But let's not forget that just because they happen to be Democrats, as was Obama, that is no guarantee that they will continue to work for the people. They can be bought off too.
Hope...but be wary...because hope is what they sell you to buy more time so that they can continue to exploit and dig their hooks in even deeper. Obama was the greatest hope...and the greatest let down. And the hooks are in the form of massive bailouts, more tax breaks for the rich, no effective reform in banking or Wall Street, and the brink of Medicare and Social Security destruction.
The ruling elite are like snakes with curved fangs and teeth and ratcheting jaws. The prey will be swallowed because the infrastructure or mechanism is designed so that the prey will always be forced down the throat. The two party system has become like the fangs and ratcheting jaws..they BOTH have become the tools of the ruling elite. If we keep letting our Democrat politicians off the hook for not fully representing us (nothing but compromising...where the other side makes all the real gains) then they will keep selling us false hopes and making promises that they never really intended to keep.
I voted no, not because I don't wish that yes was so, but I want for us not get too comfortable. This Hochul victory was much needed and appreciated, but we can't stop the fight. As we know, nothing has really changed with our elections funding, we haven't accomplished getting all paper ballots, we haven't changed one iota of the Citizens United decision by SCOTUS, adjusted or reversed, and no criminal charges have been brought against the manipulation and theft of votes going back to 2000. (Velvet Revolution people have tried with all the above, and kudos to them.)
And to the above commentator, gerald, who thinks we think that "Satan’s disciples are changing," don't count me in on that, I know we face some very calcified thinking who believe what they believe because it comes from their guts and that is where they think their brains are located. (Some of those people also think that the planet is only 6,000 years old.
A good outing for the Democrats. But with them now talking about cuts to Medicare, they're going to give away this advantage. There will be no long-term gain for the Democrats because they're economic and political idiots.
