This Bin Laden news while good is old news and I fear that it is overshadowing the recent Cdn. election. It was supposed to be an election about nothing-a Seinfeld election, but it was anything but status quo.The Liberals (in name only) considered the national governing party, had their worst loss since their formation in 1837.The NDP, who have formed many provincial govts, had their best result since their formation in 1932.They became the official opposition.Mind you the NDP have strayed far from their roots when they were the CCF and their stated goal in the 1932 Regina Manifesto was the elimination of any and all forms of Kaputalism. It is a victory nonetheless for a party that is exponentially less well funded.Change can happen but it may take a century.Change has come to Canada-finally, en fin, por fin.

Thom, you should use your personal rule about not talking about Adolf Hitler in talking points. Today is at least the second time that I heard you state that FDR didn't dig up the bones of Adolf Hitler and display them. There are at least three reasons why this did not happen, 1 Hitlers body was burnt beyond all recognition after he killed himself, 2 the sector in which Hitlers remains were found were in the Russian held territory, so if anyone would have and could have strung up Hitlers remains as a trophy it would have be Stalin, and 3 (and most importantly) FDR died 2 weeks before Hitler.

As far as I know, FDR didn't do anything to prevent the photos of Mussolini from being released either.

The display of Mussolini's body was one of the speculated reasons on why Hitler had his body burned, he didn't want to be humiliated in death.

I don't really know if releasing Osama's death picture is worth anything, but bringing up Hitler and the end of WWII as reasons to not display the picture is rather moot.

Saddam Hussein was not decapitated in his hanging. That was a guy named al-Tikriti. (I happen to be reading The Way of the World, and that came up in what I was reading 2 days ago.)

Why Didn't We Capture the Terrorist Kingpin and Interrogate Him?

I'm as happy as the next red-blooded American that Bin Laden is dead.

For more than a decade, the government has said that Bin Laden is the world's worst terrorist, a terrorist kingpin, the head of the worst terrorist group in the world.

But if we captured and interrogated him, he could have spilled a lot of beans which would help prevent future terrorist attacks.

    Right?

I would like to see one or more experts on education budgets, including higher education, shed some light on where the money goes and if there is any basis to the common wisdom that we spend too much on administration. Budgets can be difficult to comprehend and I doubt if more than a tiny percent understand what is going on. The enemies of education get a lot of milage talking vaugely about waste. What's the truth? Are administrative expenses largely waste, or is it more like R&D at a company? Are sports and theatre an extravegent expense?

@dnarnadem, dialogue is a wonderful way to communicate. Yes, I have ranted on many occasions about American politicians being Satan's disciples. Not once during my rantings have I wanted these disciples damned in hell for eternity. In fact on a daily basis I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for my family, me, and for anyone who is in need of this Chaplet. Jesus promised to stand with the most hardened sinner before God, the Father, asking for mercy on the sinner. Love is wanting and wishing the best for another person or persons. If the American devils revealed to fellow Americans Sacramental Moments, I am ready to forgive Satan's disciples. I cannot praise persons who are anit-poor and anti-working class.

    Sacramental Moments

As a Catholic I am familiar with the Seven Sacraments. At seventy plus years of age the priest’s homily for Christmas Mass was on Sacramental Moments. This was the first time that I heard of Sacramental Moments.

Sacramental Moments are all around us. These moments occur daily. Sacramental Moments are the good deeds we do to help make our world a better place. Each of us has various kinds of Sacramental Moments. Here are some examples, such as caring for and helping the poor, working for justice and peace, and speaking out against wrong and immoral wars. These are a few examples. Other persons may have their ideas as what constitutes Sacramental Moments.

Striving to make Medicare for Every One a reality is a Sacramental Moment.

Joining the International Criminal Court at The Hague, Netherlands to investigate and prosecute crimes against humanity, war crimes, mass murders in wrong and immoral wars, and torture of human beings is another Sacramental Moment.

Working to stop irresponsible corporations from exploiting human workers is a Sacramental Moment.

We have Sacramental Moments all around us. We should always work to increase Sacramental Moments in our daily lives to help make our world a better place for our environment and for animal and human life.

I believe that I have shared with you a video from Dr. Mercola’s website where a deer and a mother goose have bonded so the mother goose can have babies live until they can fly away. If a deer and a goose can bond, why can’t Americans bond with love, mercy and forgiveness? Why do Americans need to be embedded with war and the killing of God’s children?

    herminez:
good post. sounds good. especially what you said about whether Obama or Bush gets the credit when they really don't have much to do with the intelligence or the ability to do anything themselves. it's all the other people that work for the President that get the credit. Presidents are just politicians who take, or try to take, all the credit in order to get reelected....even though they may throw a bone they still want to be reelected and will use whatever cudos they can get. Of course, they are the ones to make the "high level decisions" to approve of the actions of the people who work for him. And you might have something there about using this as an excuse to get out of the war but there are many who are making lots of bucks by us being in a war. Maybe they know that we are about to invade someone else...like Iran? ...and need the manpower and materiel for the invasion. who knows, the lordes work in mysterious ways.

    What is AJ smoking?

    TH's hind end.

@primarydoc -- exactly. Clearly a "teleprompter reading" ambush attempt. Sure you need to have a plan to make some points, but TH makes no rational argument against AJ's claims other than to say he's a wacky "libertarian".

Sorry, but joke's done. Game's over. The fake Left/Right paradigm, the fake War on Terror, the fake War on whatever the Gov't chooses is failing, crumbling, burning to ashes. The Truth is unstoppable.

  • Deathers are Demanding the Long-Form Corpse   14 years 11 weeks ago

It's a nice move don't you think to keep Bin Laden 'alive' (whether he be frozen or actually alive) until the opportune moment? The bush administration may have started this but it isn't about whether Bush or Obama gets the credit, it is about trying to renew faith in the leaders of the country. Most people are aware that the war was an excuse for other things and prolonging it has become damaging for them. I think it's been decided it needs to end (or at least seem to in the public's eye) and Bin Laden's so called death gives them a perfect way out.

I don't believe a word of it and I don't think photos will prove anything, it will just give people something to argue about.

  • The Real Boston Tea Party was Against the Wal-Mart of the 1770s   14 years 11 weeks ago

The Edenton Tea Party was a political protest in Edenton, North Carolina, in response to the Tea Act, which was passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Inspired by the Boston Tea Party and the calls for tea boycotts and the resolutions of the first North Carolina Provincial Congress, 51 women, led by Penelope Barker, met on October 25, 1774, and signed a statement of protest vowing to give up tea and boycott other British products "until such time that all acts which tend to enslave our Native country shall be repealed. Expelling gas? My butt that was fascinating...butt, hey, thanks for sharing!

On a less odoriferous note: yet a more ghastly one at any rate are the alleged pictures of the alleged dead OBL. One site shows the picture that shows OBL...pretty easy to believe this picture is of OBL...the nose, teeth, mouth and beard parts but the areas of the where the eyes should be and the forehead are pretty gruesome. That part also happens to be pasted in from a picture of another poor unfortunate man whose picture is also shown so this pretty much proves that this picture of the alleged dead OBL which is circulating on the internet is fake. Question is was this one of the government's fake pictures that got out or is it from a different source? Other questions: Even if this isn't a "government picture that got out" are the real government pictures just as fake anyway and they know that they might be exposed as fakes as well if they made them available to the public? The real OBL may have been killed as the government says...but, will we ever really know for sure? They even claim that they took DNA evidence to confirm it was OBL...but then again...they could still be lying couldn't they? Without a body, or at least a body part, to reconfirm dna through independent analysis we all are left with the word of the government and military....and they lie. They really screwed up, if it really was OBL, when they dumped the evidence in the sea. The original OBL facial picture where the bottom part was taken to form the composite picture of the "dead OBL" is also shown.
Warning!!! to the sensitive, the pictures at this site is very gruesome.

Here are some words for persons who remember past misdeeds of people, institutions, companies, etc. If people, institutions, and companies are maturing, we need to cheer the process.

    Breaking the Chain

There is no cure for hatred. Hatred is an enclosed cause and effect cycle that feeds on itself. Only forgiveness can break the chain. Forgiveness can operate because it is outside the situation, not part of the problem. It does not deal with the issue; it simply bypasses the problem. That is why forgiveness does not presume to judge who is right, seek reparation, restore justice, or demand an apology. All these things would merely forge a link with the past, while forgiveness is a clean break from the past. The whole idea of forgiveness is to free people for new possibilities in the future.

    WE MUST FORGIVE TO LIVE!

Funny, I was a Catholic from the cradle also, even an altar boy! I have matured, however.

Today, tmost mainstream Catholics have become Anti-Abortion. Some even fanatical. Most all vote Republican and support Anti-Abortion fanatics. A few condone and side with those who do believe that KILLING abortion providers is doing GODS work!

I have examined my heart and it certainly does not side with modern day Catholics or anyone that says murdering people is doing God's Work.

"love, mercy, and forgiveness." These are not catholic virtues but human ones. I have them to a fault and being a catholic has nothing to do with it whatsoever. In fact after reading all the damnations you have put out in this blog, I seriously believe that you may be lacking in a few of these yourself.

@dnarnadem, If you have read my posts, I do not defend past practices of my church. As a practicing cradle Catholic I am very proud of my maturing church. Believe it or not my church has matured. Today, there are individuals in the church who have not practiced the words of Jesus, such as the Eleventh Commandment. "Love one another as I have loved you!" Jesus spoke these words at the Last Supper. The Sacraments and the Liturgy of the Eucharist give me great joy.

dnarnadem, you need to examine your your heart and determine whether or not your heart has love, mercy, and forgiveness.
