I agree with Obama not to release the photos because I know how angree and frustrated I feel when I see the carnage the criminals inflict on our people. But, I also agree with John Stewart that we should be exposed to the photos of what war really means.

I think we're to far removed from the realities of war.

Our President and our great military did what was necessary; given all the facts they had at the time. It's easy to Monday Morning Quarterback when life and death decisions have to be made in a split second.

Bin Laden is dead and while I don't like killing for the sake of killing; being a retired law enforcement officer, I wholeheartedly agree with what was done and the fact that the President is right in withholding 'death' photos. They serve no purpose. Those who want to believe it's a fake (much like his birth certificate) won't believe the proof anyway and will say they are fake, so let's not put our country or troops in any more danger by being flambouyant over death photos.

  • Do you agree with President Obama saying no-go on the Bin Laden death photos?   14 years 11 weeks ago

Not only would they be awful to see, but they would only incite more hatred for our country!

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

We do not need a Bin laden trial giving him time to spew his hate of USA and wasting many millions of dollars. Bin laden is not worth it. As for Intel , we have a mother load from Bin ladens home. Bless our brave Seals and our President Just heard ..Hannity was on TV saying " Obama is taking a victory lap at ground Zero ' !! These scummy Fox guys are lowest of the low . Even at a time like this They still smear Obama Hannity is obsessed a self righteous phony Christian . Can Hannity & Fox sink any lower ? YES they can and will !

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

I am very proud of our President for acting Presidential! I would have been very disappointed if he would have come out with "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

As I said in another thread, if Osama fails to pop up in an authentic video filmed after May 1st, saying "Neener Neener, Ya Missed Me!", that will be proof enough for me.

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

Somehow I think we prevented a lot of future terrorist attacks by simply killing him. And don't forget his hard drives!

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

If conspiracy theory is your bag revert back to potential complicity involved in 9/11 for the sake of sufficient public support to engage in Iraq.

Apparently Osama did not have a detonator in his hand that could have blown all minds and evidence present to cinders this time.

There was only one way for the Seal that shot him to find that out short of a conversation beyond the Pearly Gates.

If Obama want's to provide SOME evidence that they actually got Bin Laden, he can turn over some of that DNA to objective 3rd parties. Any 'rational' person should 'believe' the published results of two or three independent DNA testing laboratories. Then, we, the people, don't need to just take his word for it, as he's asking.

Given the covert government's past record of False Flag operations, secret experiments on the U.S. population, assassinations, and a steady diet of lies upon lies on a broad range of subjects, it's not unreasonable to ask for some proof.

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

I am a non-believer, in general. If I don't have solid, corroborated evidence, I must honestly admit that I do not KNOW about any particular thing. That's why humans developed Science: so we don't have to depend on Belief.

That said, if Obama want's to provide SOME evidence that they actually got Bin Laden, they should simply turn over some of that DNA to an objective 3rd party. Any 'rational' person should 'believe' the published results of two independent DNA testing laboratories.

DRichards: "Why Didn't We Capture the Terrorist Kingpin and Interrogate Him?"
Very good question! I suspect that, if this really was OBL, it was planned just the way it went down. To kill him so that he cannot talk....disfigure him so that they could use the excuse that we don't show gruesome pictures to the pampered public (so the fake pictures or fake OBL cannot be scrutinized by millions of people...some of which are experts an photo anlysis)...and get rid of the evidence so no one could ever prove that this OBL was a fake. The government is, yet again, expecting us to believe them.
Right!! One other thing is the government knows what a short attention span people have...which is why they can get away with mass robbery and mass murder. And if they had kept him alive he would been the source of constant attention for many, many years. Constant exposure would eventually work to impress some that he was not a monster...or that he really was working for our intelligence agencies that made patsies out of the 19 hijackers and created the 911 false flag operation.

I noticed a couple of things in today's (5/5/2011) TH show I hear Thom saying that we need to "just move on" in reference to the alleged killing of OBL and in particular the photos being made public an issue. Now isn't that a familiar phrase..."just move on" used by Obama in relation to going after Bush, the war criminal, and his insidious neocon/neoliberal regime. And it was an over used phrase used by the criminal neocon/neoliberals during the Bush regime as well.

What? The photos would "put our troops at risk"? Excuuuuuusee meeee! What kind of non-sense is that? Our troops are already at risk just because they are over there killing people. Doesn't that phrase "put our troops at risk" make them out to me chicken-sh!t namby-pambies who don't have the ability to defend themselves? Doesn't this insult our brave troops who are armed to the teeth with the latest high tech weapons? Our government puts our troops at risk! Our politicians puts our troops at risk! Our MIC corporations puts our troops at risk! The people of the US who wave their stupid little flags in disgusting fawning adoration of murdering people in a jingoist false sense of "we are the law, we are right, we are saints" (we want your oil) delusion.

I thought it quite funny and cathartic upon hearing that some idiot on a subway failed in his attempt to rally the people on board with "USA...USA...USA". They just ignored the a$$hole.

So Hillary is in Italy trying to free up Khadafi's money to return to the Libians. Too bad they can't go after their own Khadafis right here at home...like those 20 some Wall Street ponzi schemers who made $2billion each last year. Too bad they don't go after the banksters and all the rest who also ripped off Americans. But in America when you steal from the people on a grand enough scale you get away with it and get a favorable tax rate (which none ever pay anyway). I guess we should "just move on". Nothing to see behind the curtain over there. They got Madoff but that ponzi scheme was just the tip of the iceberg.

And a quote from Hillary on torture, years ago when campaigning I believe, something about how the British used torture and G.Washington made some kind of declaration about how torture should never be used because it doesn't work and that it could be used as a precedence for other countries to use it on us....or something like that. And contrast that to the administration she's part of now that has reneged on their attitude on torture.

Funny, also, how hollow G.Washington's words rang during later conflicts or wars the US was part of, or created...like when the US soldiers were using young Filipino boys as target practice on a bridge in the Philipines during the Filipino/American war. And when McArthur used torture to find out where all the gold was buried from Operation Golden Lily. I shouldn't say all...because Marcos got a lot more of it later....and there is still a lot of undiscovered gold buried deep in booby-trapped mines in the Philipines even today. Sterling and Peggy Seagraves book "Operation Golden Lily".

I do not believe the US would lie about something like this. If he were not dead, he would just tell everyone so. However, killng Bin Laden when he was unarmed and hooked to a dialysis machine isn't proof of anything except we can catch old people without guns.  Killing him certainly isn't proof the war is "working."  War doesn't "work," it creates more terrorists.  Just look at the biggest group of terrorist recruits today--teenage boys.  These teenagers were children when we started these wars.  These wars are simply ensuring there is a constant enemy. Enough war. Enough killing. We need to stop this war-mongering, corporate, cash machine on the backs of human beings.

  • That’s Not Who We Are   14 years 11 weeks ago

@DRichards, I believe that yesterday you made a comment that OBL should have been captured so we could investigate him. I AGREE! We were given a crock that he would be captured if he did not have gun in hand. I agree with the Archbishop!

OK so you torture a guy to save one American, because that's the only way to save just one American (that was this torture defender's argument). However, by saving this one American by having a policy that in certain cases torture is OK, you've made your enemy resolute to kill more Americans. So you saved one American and killed how many more saving him? I mean really if we torture one enemy and get one American killed because of it, but saved another American specifically, the net change is one enemy tortured... so we're still behind in the long run aren't we.

The problem with this man's argument is it stops at the result of saving one American, but doesn't bother with all those endangered from that point further because of it.

Thom, you ask if any evidence will be forthcoming. I believe it will. If OBL were still alive, he would pop up quicker than a whack-a-mole in a new video saying "Neeners! Ya Missed Me!". The longer he goes without doing so, the deader he'll be. That's all the proof I'll ever need.

@Mathboy, actually there are several pictures of dead Hitler look alikes from the end of the war. Presumably the look alikes were killed to throw off those hunting for Hitler. Obviously the existence of these photos are proof someone thought it necessary to photograph the dead body of Hitler, and you don't take pictures not to show them to someone who feels they need to see them... you just don't.

Godwin's Law: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.

I was guilty of this earlier today, when I pointed out that nobody needed to see pictures of Hitler's body.

Uh generally yacht owners get around paying any sales tax by having the seller sail about 3 miles off shore, having the new owner sail out to meet them in a seperate vessel (generally a small tender) then signing the paperwork and turning the vessel over. At least that's how it worked 10 years ago when the company I worked for, that built a multimillon dollar yacht for an individual did it. Why 3 miles, because for some reason its considered international waters, at least when avoiding sales tax, don't ask me why.

That was in California BTW, but I believe it works that way federally. Also this 130' megayacht had Las Vegas listed as it's home port (wrap you're mind around that).

Why Didn't We Capture the Terrorist Kingpin and Interrogate Him?

I'm as happy as the next red-blooded American that Bin Laden is dead.

For more than a decade, the government has said that Bin Laden is the world's worst terrorist, a terrorist kingpin, the head of the worst terrorist group in the world.

But if we captured and interrogated him, he could have spilled a lot of beans which would help prevent future terrorist attacks.

    Right?
