I wasn't here yesterday, because the Inter-Nazi's here at my office have prohibited "unapproved" streaming internet applications, e. g., internet radio.
However, while they may have made a statement of prohibition, they have taken no action to PREVENT access to such applications, and I also sincerely doubt they are monitoring useage. So - screw'em!
If anyone really feels that my 16kbps background stream is interfering with their productivity, let 'em PROVE IT! Last year, they took away everyone's speakers, because others might find the sound distracting, so I listen with ear buds now. But here's where I draw my line in the sand! If I they wanna fire me over this, then I don't think I wanna work here any more!
@mstaggerlee, Rands' Giants stand (as they always have) on the backs of the common working man. It has never been the case that these Giants have provided a penny to their laborers out of generosity, they always begrudge the pay and salivate over the profits. Not one of these Giants has every been necessary, someone else could have always filled the positions they hold, no major feat of innovation or intelligence has ever been a prerequisite.
Interesting that Thom should mention Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" this morning - it happens that I finished reading that book last Friday.
The very title of the book is somewhat telling, invoking visions of the giant who supports the world. One of Rand's main points, apparently, is that we stand on the shoulders of giants. She and I agree on that, to a point. Where we disagree is on the identity of those giants.
Rand feels that the work of the wealthy is of benefit to us all, thus they are the giants upon whose shoulders the rest of us stand. I'm sure I'll get no arguement on the following statement in THIS venue - Lloyd Blankfein is no giant.
From my viewpoint (I'm an engineer, btw), the giants upon whose shoulders we stand have names like Galileo, Marconi, Newton and Edison. EVERY advance in technology made by anybody today is based on principles discovered by people who left this world long ago. We owe such people a debt that we can never repay. The men that Rand would call "giants" would be nothing without the ones who came before - today's industrialists stand on the shoulders of MY giants.
Do these men acknowledge the debt they owe to my giants? Perhaps, if they do, we can find a way to convince them that the ONLY way they can come close to repaying this debt is to do something that benefits someone other than themselves - like PAYING HIGHER TAXES, for instance.
My guess about the 11 missing people from the Oil Platform is simply this, there is no story. I'm betting they were way too close to the initial explosion to even have their story known by any living being. I doubt very much that they survived long enough to know what hit them, it wasn't as if they were at a large facility, they were on an Oil Platform, just about the definition of confined working space.
The only story I think we can expect is who are they and what was their work duties. Which may tell a lot.
Thom, I underwent Prolotherapy in 1998. The idea is that the injections proliferate the growth of collagen. The new collagen is supposed to develop as a structural support system and the theory is that the support structure will alleviate pain. It did not work in my case, but I heard others swear by it. It is very painful to undergo. The injections go deep and you must be anesthetized for the procedure, usually with demerol. There are several series of injections. Basically, it is sugar water. Good luck, Thom. I know how uncomfortable you are.
If you have any questions, want more details, please drop me a note at randwolfe@olypen.com.
I hope that the true cost to BP and all fossil fuel companies (for BP is just the current kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar, so to speak), is that the American people will start demanding alternative clean energy (and I don't mean "Clean Coal" or Nuclear).
Don't think that prescription THC is any worse than any the other drugs. It actually grows NATURALLY. Is less addictive than ALCOHOL, AND is actually NEEDED medically by SOME.
Don't agree that stopping the legal use of THC will be a further bad influence upon the illegal use of ANY DRUGS.
The ONLY THING to make this BETTER is to FOCUS on the" WHY's"
Why do people need TCH, or any other?
Why are some so dead against it?
Why, if we know a fact is TRUE, do we still have to have a problem just translating the data into REAL MEANING?
Why do we want a thing more, when told we can't have it?
Why do we look to hurt others and ourselves, when we are hurting?
Not enough time with all the many many many why questions, to ARRIVE to a CONCLUSION that makes sense and actually works for everyone, too.
This is how you know you found "IT". THE IT-the ANSWER!! IT will ACTUALLY WORK for ALL CONCERNED. And that's HOW you KNOW you've got the ACTUAL SOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
Considering how the Oil Spill seems to magically be staying away from coastal areas, I'm wondering if 1) The NY Times is falsifying data or 2) If the lack of Oil by the coast line is likely due to where the dispersants are being dropped.
I don't think its the Oil Spill on the Ocean is what they're trying to avoid, so much as photos of Oil on Shore line, think about it, most of the Exxon spills' iconic pictures are of shoreline rocks and oil covered birds.
Hey, was watching and wanted to join the converstion. Line was busy.
I get the sinking feeling that we REALLY NEED a whole lot of ACTORS, in Washington.
Folks in all those high places who " TALK - like they are all for corruption and world domination."
While these self-same folks " DO- Just-The-Opposite." This is the way the GAME is being PLAYED by those who are CURRENTLY in CONTROL. We should be JUST AS SHIFTY, toward OUR OWN ADGENDA, as they do for theirs. Say we love the new POLICY, and this is CODE for VOTING IT DOWN. SEE? Dangerous, as they also knew, and BECAAUSE they are WILLING to take the chance, and we are not, they are currently running the show. Balance of powere has shifted, and we are SLOW in the up-take, which equates to some DIRTY PLAY just to see EVENS.
re: Senator Sanders Fed Audit. A one time audit may just expose enough to make the demand for an ongoing Audit schedule possible. Way to go Bernie, once again proving he is Americas' Senator (as Thom points out).
re: Prescription Drug use abuse on the rise. Of course legal prescription drug abuse is rising, more and more states are making Marijuana available through prescriptions... thats got to be affecting the numbers of people abusing prescriptions.
I think Louise had to re-boot the page or something, I note that the top of the page shows she submitted the blog at 10:09am.
But yeah I have noticed that the blog traffic has dropped off a lot in the last week or so. Perhaps there's blog fatigue setting in. I have no idea why, there's soooo much to discuss, Greece, SCROTUS, Gulf Spill, Primary elections, etc...
re: Republicans raise a stink over every Democratic Politician in power and their policies (no matter what).
Very simple, they have taken "The Squeaky Wheel Gets Oiled" policy to heart, and squeal like the pigs they are with their double standard. They're nothing but Cheerleaders, that's why Bush made such a perfect candidate for them, he had all the necessary qualifications from his college experience as one.

High School clique mentality taken to its political zenith.
there have been only a few of us here all morning. Fewer today than yesterday. earlier i speculated that some strange virus is causing us to get lives. or maybe a marijuana famine.
@harry - Yessir - and they are deployed! :-)
Of course Rand's giants do nothing out of generosity, Nels.
By her standards, generosity is merely a destructive tendency of the weak and misguided.
@mstaggerlee: ya got headphones?
