@harry and gerald, by hell on earth do you mean another age of darkness for man kind, such as what humanity went through from the fall of the Roman Empire until the Age of Enlightenment? or an Earth that has become nearly impossible to live on because of pollution and depletion of natural resources? or both? or something else?
Thanks Harry. I'll try tomorrow. Looks like we're going to have a water crisis as well. I hope Thom will talk about it and global climate change. BTW, I won't tell the chat room about the live blog.
Im like Gerald in which I see a hell on earth coming, and those of us who are going to live less than 20 years are the lucky ones. However, there is still a chance that geoenginnering can save us, but it probably will be close to hell.
Thom, there are boats that move under wind power... they're called sailboats. But I don't know why anyone would want to sail through an oil slick anyway.
@gerald, I know you do. I do my best to read between the lines of everyone's postings to get to the heart of what is being said. I have said before, and say again now, I don't always agree with you, but I think your voice is valid and worthy of being on a progressive blog such as this. I hear your anger with this country, I may try to parse what you're saying, but fact of the matter is, if you feel this way, I have no doubt there are not several others who feel likewise, yet don't share on a blog such as this.
I frankly doubt that all that I say is agreeable either, but oh well, that's what I think, can't see any reason to hide that. I just try to use my best manners (such as they are), so I don't turn off too many readers. Seems to work out for me so far.
Our savings rate goes down, as our wages stagnate, credit flourishes and banks make a killing. Seems like a simple equation, promote greed amongst business, shrink the middle class (the voice of the Government when big enough) and the top % get to act and live like Kings without the modicum of responsibility such a position entails.
And the wage slaves turn on each other, for the propaganda of greed has infected them too, but they can only compete for nothing and so frustration drives them to violence. The violent ones are made example of, and the rest bow there heads in subservience.
@Gerald; me too, i took to heart the first things i learned in sunday school. whether or not salvation is involved, I just see it as the most humanistic path.
@gerald, I find it's better to provoke thought by offering my own. If I were to try to shove it down their throat, I shouldn't be surprised to find it regurgitated and myself, as a result, avoided.
"A teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down" - Mary Poppins (wow I got to quote Mary Poppins today, how cool is that ;-) )
@harry ashburn, you are absolutely right about the fundamentalist Christians and the Republican Party.
@harry ashburn, I see eternal salvation by pursuing a path that emulates Jesus Christ's heart that is filled with love, mercy, and forgiveness. I believe that we are all our brothers' keeper and we need to live by the Golden Rule.
Quick comment off topic. Thom please take a little time talking about what's happening in Nashville. We've had the worst flood since 1937 and the national media almost completely ignored it. Take a look and see whats happening. We need help! Links below are photos of the devastation.
@gerald, conservative followers are lemmings, and progressive followers are sheep. Conservatives like to believe they're top dog, and progressives like to believe they're as independent as a cat.
That's why conservatives are easy to command and will obey dutifully... right off the cliff.
And why progressives bleat at the slaughter line, pleading their personal case.
Man is a pack animal, its implausible that we'll shake this instinct. The lunitics are indeed running the asylum... the world 'round.
@Gerald, I think a big part of their success is the fundamentalist Christians in the party feel they are on a mission from God. Their motivation is eternal salvation; so they're willing to exert the effort to run for school board, etc. make phone calls, pester congresspeople, etc.
More great stuff, this from Bobby Kennedy, nails them dead to rights, at HuffPo:

re: Phil Gramm: note that Wendy Gramm isn't his first wife. She's asian, less apt to complain about getting beat-up; unlike his former wife.
@Maxrot, I offer several thoughts. Some thoughts are hard to swallow and some thoughts are easier to swallow.
This caller, 'Michael''s voice sounds like Gerhard from Oakland, CA Tea Partier. Maybe his new name suggests he is finally being transformed.
@harry, a generally sugar cubes are used to help the acid go down.

@harry ashburn, humanism is a good path to pursue. Whatever the path a person will pursue, hopefully the path will have heart.

@Maxrot, I agree with your words. You have said it succinctly.

The trouble with mad bombers is that anger makes them stupid.

@Nashville .sorry, Thom rarely has time to read this blog while on air. YOu might try the live chat page.
@Maxrot: you're right. My liberal aunt knitted me a progressive-wool sweater when I was in college. Moths loved it.

@Maxrot, I do try to provoke some thought for Thom's listeners.
