I *know* Reconciliation isn't the same as "The Nuclear Option", but HOW COME Democrats feel the need to be on the defensive for threatening to use Reconciliation, but Republican have NO FEAR of being called HYPOCRITES for now complaining about using a procedure they themselves threatened to use four years ago?
No one is asking Republicans, who are deriding it now, if threatening to use the "The Nuclear Option" was wrong in 2005.
Harry Reid actually began today by saying you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts and supported his statment. Harry got pretty tough out the gate, Victoria.
The savings by going to a single payer health care program should be brought up with charts and numbers. Since there is a large number of people watching or listening, someone should stir the coals to wake the people up. Let the public know the truth.
Victoria! It is the Democrats telling the good stories. And Harry and Nancy have done very well. Glad I can watch this thing by myself without haveing to rely on Victoria.
@ Mark K - I've been reading a lot about the bankster bailout and believe it leads me to be a bit cynical. When I see business purposely downgrading its product in a manner that will result in lost revenue, I am suspicious of motive.
I haven't seen figures for 2009, but in 2008 all but three MLB teams, including the Dodgers, had a net operating profit (it would seem in their "interest" to claim otherwise, but that is not the case). The Dodgers rank fourth in total team value in MLB, so it can't be an expectation for additional free money that McCourt is cutting "product." It's all about "product" and what teams think they can get away with before fans stop "buying."
Lets make V.A. healthcare available exclusively to veterens. We'll see how quickly the members of congress rally to protect their Government run healthcare.
KMH - the most entertaining part of the HCsummit so far is watching the GOP demand something and then for Obama to say "Good idea, but it's already in the bill".
Why can't we have one of these summits --- on different topics --- about once a month? It's a classic marketplace-of-ideas debate that could reinvigorate democracy.
As much as I cant stand Colburn- he made a good case for the need to stop fraud and to implement prevention- however, that would take cleaning up the environment, Mr. Colburn- we cant do that now can we. Including that radioactive water we will be drinking.
Chuck Shumer did a great job of saying, yes, we agree with that - in fact, its in the bill.
The President and democrats have been embarrassing the Republicans simply by stating, yes, we agree with you (even buying across state lines as that is what the exchange would do, duh).
Thom makes a good point about young people elevating Ronald Regan to mythical status. The reason being that Regans buddies in the corporate world, including the publishing companies, have spun world history to tell their side of the story and their version of the facts. History is told by the victorious, and for the past 20-30 years the corporations have been winning the war, but I am still not willing to crown them the victors!!
In regards to credit card reform, I do agree that the notification stipulations are for the most part useless. The one provision that is beneficial is that rates on previous purchases are locked in at the rate at the time of the purchase.
BofA lost my business a few years ago by raising my rates (unwaranted) from 7% fixed to 17% variable. I was carrying a balance from a Vegas trip that I had taken months earlier. I had budgeted my payoff timetable at the 7% rate. If I had known that the rate was going to jump, I would have financed the trip differently.
Is greed .... beyond a reasonable point .... a mental illness?
Why else would health insurance executives feel the need to make so much money for so little work?
Bill Gates earned his billions by creating something new but he would have worked just as hard for a more modest return because the pleasure of creation is (once you satisfy minimum needs) overwhelmingly motivating.
Wellpoint's CEO didn't create anything so the lust for more more more is not mentally right.
Thom, question...

I appreciate Victoria giving her updates, but she keeps conflating the image: Repubs = tough, Dems = weak.

@Charles: I'd rather see a leper heal a republican.
When I see a Repub heal a leper, then I might take them seriously.
If you're going to start censoring cleavage on fictional characters, I'd start with Jessica Rabbit.
@ Charles- I knew that, i'm saying they should not be allowed to participate at all, no matter how much they pay.

Heres the republican stance on health care "Jesus didn't have a healthcare plan, so in keeping with WWJD we won't either!"
@Charles re:"Harry, I did rent a room recently without a card. $300 room deposit, $75 telephone deposity and a $20 key deposit."
Well, yeah...at the No-Tell Motel. where you rent by the hour....
@ Rafael - Non-veteran Congress members have to pay extra to have access to the V.A.

@Charles: re:In regards to credit card reform:
I wish one could buy an airplane ticket or rent a car without a credit card. I would probably cancel my 1 credit card.
