I went to the LA Sports Arena last night to hear Bernie. We had 27,500. There were 5 different television trucks outside. ABC, NBC, CBS and a couple of local stations. I did not see a Faux truck.
The lead off speaker spoke about Michael Brown and the other blacks who were victims of police murderers. She spoke passionately of black lives mattering.
The spokesperson for the Nurses' Union was one of the next people to speak. She, of course, said they support Bernie. She then said the nurses' union was composed mostly of women. Do you think there was a message about Hillary there?
Yes, Bernie could be the next FDR; I get chills thinking about it However, as an American History major I fear what could happen with this truly progressive, let us finally get back on the right track candidate? Who is behind this new attack, BlacklivesMatter? We know Bernie is the LAST candidate that this focus should be on, it just doesn't make any sense at all. He is a good man that wants this country a just and fair place for ALL. Is there a fear of his success in the running at this point? Could there be a plan to bring him down? The big question, who is behind it? Go Bernie, I think you are wonderful!
I realized last night that what the ostensible BLM people have done is equivalent to Kanye West jumping on stage to interrupt Taylor Swift. "We're going to let you finish, but Black Lives Matter has one of the most important issues of all time." Kanye is universally recognized as a jackass for that, but we're supposed to accept that BLM is employing an appropriate tactic? I don't think so.
Great piece Thom ! As you say, the end of real broadcast network news came when corporations were allowed to make their News Divisions profit centers. Up until recently we could at least depend on the first five to eight minutes of these programs to provide some meaningful reporting but this year has brought about a change with the entire agenda being dedicated to the reporting of what can only be described as human interest stories. What's really disturbing is that this same format has also been adopted by local network affiliates all over the country. I can remember the birth of network television news back in the late fifties, a collection of seasoned reporters who forged their journalistic careers reporting World War II from various vantage points in Europe using the print media and some radio reporting. Even movie theaters showed what was called News Reels between feature film viewings that reported on the major stories of the day and supplemented the reporting with actual film of the events. The first network television news programs were only fifteen minutes long yet they contained more substantive reporting than any half hour (22 minutes after an array of pitches for various pharmaceuticals) news program today !
I TOTALLY AGREE with you! It's so sad, these A-holes are looking to be harmed, and if I was at that 50th Anniversary of social Security, those itches would have heard from me, and I WOULD HAVE gotten the COPS to get them the heck out of there, and I AM A BLACK WOMAN!

Inform them, if they want CHANGE and BETTER TREATMENT, to START VOTING in the Communities in which they are being abused and disrespected! Because Bernie cannot control those States and Communities, THEY MUST DO IT! VOTE those RACIST'S out of your Local and State Governments, then and only then will you GET CHANGE! Bernie cannot STOP what's happening in your Communities, he can only SPEAK to it!

Pap hit the nail on the head - these 2 women who interrupted this Sanders rally could be hired by the Koch brothers for all we know. Even "Black Lives Matter" said they didn't represent them. Now, try to get the CORPORATIZED MEDIA to clarify that!
I am sure Bernie would even be ok with meeting with them.
Those Black Lives protesters aren't listening....they're too angry to do so. It's rude people lke them that turn me off on their cause.
If this is a "swift boat" scheme it could snowball unless a strong discrediting voice is heard constantly. Otherwise, he should be able to overcome this.
The Republican field includes 4 current senators, 4 current governors, 1 former senator, 5 former governors, and 3 people that have never served in public office. It would have been interesting if the debates had used those classifications to decide who debates whom.
I'm amazed that the ostensible Black Lives Matter people thought it would help their cause to screech, and to yell "We're not reasonable."
That's been exactly my experience, Uncle Geo. I'm hoping to directly invite every Democrat in my precinct to the next caucus, so this introvert can step down as chair (and sole member) of the precinct committee. Participation is so low that a state house district is reduced to behaving like a precinct used to.
In all American political parties, endorsements are decided by the people who get elected as delegates at local caucuses or party conventions. Get elected a delegate (no campaign money necessary) and you get to vote on the party's endorsee and it's the endorsees who end up on the ballot.
Delegates can have influence far outside of their numbers. The truth of this is most recently proved in the takeover by the Tea Partiers of Republican conventions in many states where they then endorsed their chosen candidates. Establishment Republicans tried to stop them, but it's not that easy to do away with a party's rules and constitution.
How difficult is it to become a delegate? Not too difficult: in most places you pretty much just have to show up. But only a small fraction of 1% bother to be active in a political party and fewer still bother to become delegates. In fact, in some precincts no delegate was chosen because no one ran. In the end, an astonishingly small number of people decide endorsements. You could be one if you wanted to.
Schumer is a shmuck. He will be a disaster if he takes the lead after Senator Reid. One day the whold world is going to pay back America for all the war and misery caused by the likes of people like Schumer and the GOP. We could be a peaceful nation with many perks but not with the politicians we have now. We need major change and we need it soon. No more endless wars for the profiteers. If we don't revolt and demand change it will only continue to get worse. Vote Sanders to start, then hit the streets.
More extreme? No. Trump may have been the only rational one on that stage! I think Trump's entry into the race has, however, shown just how out of touch not just the candidates are from the American People, but just how broken the entire (s)election process is. Look at how desperate the GOP and Democratic political establishment has been to discredit "The Donald", The corporate media has been just as desperate to make him look like the "comic relief" as they can so that they can get back to the prescripted process.
The BLM group that heckled Bernie could have just been a group that was so angry that they would heckle any politician, and Bernie was the only one giving speeches. But he did not deserve that. At first I suspected Hillary. We can't test that until she dares to give a speech so we can see if they heckle her. If she did that then Bernie needs to take the gloves off. Bill Clinton sold out A Americans. He killed welfare and signed the hard sentencing law. Bernie should say that if he has to.
I agree with you. The public likes Trump because he speaks his mind and isn't beholden to the money boys because of his own wealth. No matter what his stripes or his rhetoric, he's still a formidable opponent.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer has taken us one step closer to war by opposing President Obama’s monumental diplomatic agreement to peacefully prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
This is scary stuff. Schumer is very powerful--in fact, he is in line to become the next Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate. His opposition to diplomacy could sway other key Democratic senators to join him.
We need 34 senators to support the Iran deal in order to prevent it from collapsing, and right now only 13 have announced their support.
If we want to stop another war, we need to say loud and clear right now what we think of Schumer’s horrendous decision.
j2bart this is not a parody. Trump has always been unbelievably callow, vain and stupid. When his two lieutenants died because Trump was too cheap to keep his chopper maintained, he said: No problem, they were not any good anyway.

If this country can't afford to replace crumbling bridges, and fully fund programs like Meals on Wheels, then we sure as hell can't afford to fund Netanyahu's continuing occupation of other people's lands, preemptive wars that kill mostly the innocent poor, and only result in the extreme enrichment of a few.
Bush/Cheney's bank crash and trillions on the Iraq war lead directly to justification for austerity ...... basically an economic war immorally imposed by the extremely wealthy on the vast majority of United States citizens....time to revolt.
While Trump is amusing, he is certainly not as gut bustingly funny as Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann or dear, dear Christine O'Donnel.
